Mexico Moves Against US Vigilantes

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico hired a U.S. law firm Wednesday to help gather evidence and bring charges against Arizona ranchers, claiming that they illegally detained immigrants in vigilante actions.

The government decided to take action against the ranchers after a Texas man was charged with murdering a Mexican immigrant on his ranch, and after a television station showed Arizona ranchers allegedly holding immigrants at gunpoint.

Mexico said it would also base its request for criminal charges on a case in which an immigrant was shot Friday -- allegedly by men on horseback -- west of Douglas, Ariz.

''There are possibilities for bringing serious charges, from illegal detention to aggravated assault,'' Foreign Minister Rosario Green said at a news conference Tuesday.

Green said 32 incidents of vigilante acts had been committed against Mexican immigrants in the United States since January 1994. Of those incidents, 27 were in Arizona.

Mexico hired the Washington attorneys to investigate with a view toward suing for damages on behalf of the Mexican citizens illegally detained. Mexico was also seeking to have assault charges brought against the ranchers, the ministry said.

A report this week by KOLD television station, in Tucson, Ariz., showed a ranch hand detaining five men, apparently illegal immigrants, at an undisclosed location. The ranch worker was shown pushing one of the men from a seated position onto his stomach. The men were held at gunpoint until the U.S. Border Patrol arrived, station news director Carolyn Kane said.

The station obscured the ranch worker's identity and didn't identify the ranch.

Also, a 75-year-old man surrendered to police Sunday after being charged in Brackettville, Texas, with murder for the fatal shooting of an immigrant Saturday on his 50-acre tract of land.

The suspect, Sam Blakewood, was arraigned and released after posting $10,000 bail.

Mexican authorities had identified the victim as Eusebio de Haro Espinosa, from the central state of Guanajuato, according to Sheriff L.K. Burgess of Kinney County, Texas.

Authorities said Espinosa and another man had likely stopped at Blakewood's land for water. They were about 300 yards from Blakewood's home near Brackettville when he allegedly shot at them twice with a .357 Magnum revolver.

Espinosa was hit once in the leg and bled to death, according to an autopsy by the Kinney County Medical Examiner.

Now the corrupt narco-terrorist government is using our legal system to go after US citizens who try to defend their homes and livelihoods from foreign invaders. Since our government refuses to do anything about it, maybe ordinary US citizens will have to. Perhaps we should organize a boycott of tourism to Mexico?

32 since 94, maybe the citizens of the US should sue Mexico for all of the free education and health care and jail time that the illegals have cost US. How many crimes against Americans have been at the hands of illegal alians?

If private property rights go, then America is doomed. Protecting your land, protecting your car, protecting your home.... is all this no longer legal?

Why would the Mexican government have standing to file a suit against the rancher? The individual Mexican citizen might, but the Mexican government has not been damaged.

These ranchers have had a hard time of it the last few years, they have asked the government for help time and time again. They received no response. There was no recourse but to take things into their own hands. They've lost cattle, suffered personal danger, theft of personal property. It's the governments duty to protect the borders of this country.

I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with LEGAL immigration, I do however have a problem with ILLEGAL aliens.

I personally would love to see them increase LEGAL immigration and put into effect the old immigration laws where you needed a sponsor to stand for your actions. There are a lot of really great hispanic families who are a great addition to this country.

At least 3 were verified in the drug-dealer's yard, where originally they thought up to 2000 might be there. The FBI was there and supervising the digging. Remember, dead men tell no tales.

If anyone knows the outcome of his amendment, please let me know.

Doesn't the term "ILEGAL" say all! The illegal's have no respect for property as they make their way to the promise land. The KOLD leftists fail to mention the property damage the illegal's cause and that the Ranchers have even caught drug runners. No American would even take this case but for the love of other peoples money you can get a lawyer to anything. I guess somewhere along the line the States made citizens arrest illegal.

This is nothing new for Cochise County and the ranchers of that area. About 25 years or so ago, a few illegals were 'detained' by the Hanigan family on Hanigan ranch. Supposedly, they illegals were beaten, tied-up, possibly burned/branded, and cattle-prodded. The Hanigans were tried in state courts adn found not guilty (my parents were friends with the Hanigan's attorney). Needless to say, the Mexican government threw a massive fit. The federal government intervened and charged the Hanigans with interfering with interstate trade. They were found guilty in federal court in Phoenix and sentenced to prison, can't remeber for how long though. Cochise County has a largely unguarded border, that is very easily pentrated. The ranches get trashed regularly by the illegals crossing the border.

state guards aren't the FEDS... but IMO that's what states should do..

It's rather pathetic that I have a friend who has waited for years to become an American citizen because of beauracratic BS, yet we just ignore these gate crashers... It's time to let Mexico know we aren't going to put up with its bull siht anymore..

Article IV, Section 2, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution: The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.

Seems to me that 'defense' of our borders (e.g. "common defense") is one of the 'Privileges' offered to the Ranchers. Since they are in the 'State" of AZ (TX, CA, et. al.) they should be protected (Article IV, Section 4.).

If not, then those 'States' have a 'Right' to secede if the Federal government is derelict in their duty.

If I'm misunderstanding the Constitution (the Federalist Papers as well), let me know.

Since about seven years ago, I always wonder what would be the catalysis.

The Mexican government is hiring a leftist DC law firm to harass Americans who are defending themselves legally because the government won't. In the end, this is a bad thing for the safety of the illegal aliens themselves.

If any of these ranchers are jailed or financially ruined just for staying within the law, things will get very hot on the border. Knowing what would be in store for them if the NWO liberals win in court, folks may decide that sniping one illegal in a group is far safer and more effective. Bad news for the Mexicans.

If you can go to jail or be fined for acting within the law, there's no longer any reason to abide by the law.

In California there are legal service groups, some get funding from Legal Services Corp, that file civil court cases for legal aliens involved in traffic accidents. I knew of one recently where a pickup truck of illegal migrant workers in the Central Valley were speeding over a hill in the rain. Once over the hill they had a head-on with a citizen coming out of his driveway onto the road. Both trucks had damage, and most people had hospital time. The illegal aliens sued the citizens for back-pay for lost working time and hospital costs. The case went to jury and the illegals lost. So it cost the illegal nothing to sue, it cost the citizens (& their insurance) hospital, vehicle, and lost work time, and our judicial system is cluttered with this crap.

Ah Heck.. Now we have a US law firm representing a government that is saying that we must allow illegals to come across our borders... even onto a individuals private land now matter what. Why is our government not standing ground against this kind of legal scheme. Remember, it was only a couple of months ago that armed Mexican Army soldiers fired on US Border Patrol Agents. But it was excused as a mistake. Something stinks here.

Republican pollsters tell the GOP that any moves against any Hispanic will cause a loss at the polls. Therefore do nothing for their political survival. The Democraps are totally corrupt. Clinton survived impeachment, he is above the law now and makes his moves according to partisan advantage. The DOJ is immune because the Republican pollsters tell the GOP that to impeach Reno would lose votes since she is a female and would be quivering with Parkinson's as she is being grilled by evil white men. The problem is GOP leadership.
