Iran has launched its first indigenous submarine.
The Al-Sabehat-15 mini-submarine designed to perform reconnaissance missions, transport troops and plant mines was launched Tuesday in the Gulf Port of Bandar Abbas. Iran's defense industries now possess the technological know-how to manufacture state-of-the-art equipment for the armed forces, Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said. The Al-Sabehat-15, which can accommodate a two-man crew and up to three divers is equipped with precision navigational instruments and is adaptable to the shallow waters and the different climatic conditions in the Gulf, Shamkani said. Shamkani also said that Iran's hopes to be able to manufacture the submarine for export.
I heard that they did in fact launch a sub but understand that it sank a couple of weeks ago.......
With the current state of anti-submarine warfare technology possessed by the U.S., it would seem that these subs would be easy targets should they be employed against the U.S. Navy.
Why do they call the camel "the ship of the deasert?"
