In the Philadelphia Justice Center today, three more Teamsters pled guilty. The Trio were arrested one year ago in September 1999 for two counts each of aggravated assault, riot, conspiracy, and reckless endangerment, in the brutal October 2, 1998 beating of Clinton protestors Don Adams and his sister Teri Adams, during a presidential fund-raising trip to Philadelphia's City Hall at the height of the impeachment inquiry resulting from the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Charlie Davis and Marc Hopkins each pled guilty to one count of riot (a felony), and two counts each (one count for Don and one count for myself) of Simple Assault and Conspiracy, both misdemeanors. Norma Bottomer pled guilty to one count of conspiracy and two counts (one count for Don and one count for myself) of Simple Assault all misdemeanors.

In his closing remarks, ADA Richard Negrin, admitted the Commonwealth believed the hat placed on Don Adams head by Teamster boss John Morris then head of Teamster Local 115, was a signal ordering a group of people wearing TEAMSTERS FOR CLINTON Teashirts to attack Adams. He went on to describe the altercation and the injuries sustained by the victims and had not the momentum of the attack been slowed when Ms. Adams placed herself over the body of her brother, the injuries would have been much more severe. Thus, he requested that Judge Jellin of the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, consider the maximum allowable penalty, which for the men is house arrest and for Ms. Bottomer is Probation.

Presentence and mental health evaluations were also ordered for all three defendants. Sentencing is October 25 in room 608.

This makes a total of FIVE Teamsters who have received convictions in this matter. The two others, Marc Nardone and Kevin McNulty, pled guilty to Riot, Conspiracy, and Assault on July 1, 1999.

Criminal charges against Mr. John Morris the powerful Eastern Seaboard Teamster Boss, recently ousted from the Union by Jimmy Hoffa, partially for his orchestration of the assault, are still pending in the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

For the Elian supporters on the forum, it should be noted that Assistant District Attorney Richard Negrin, who handled this aspect of the case, is a Cuban American and wholeheatedly supported our position, ardently working to achieve Justice on our behalf. (What goes around sometimes indeed comes around!) Of everyone whom we encountered regarding this matter at the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, he was the most aggressive in his persuit of the greatest possible conviction for the three defendants, and it is likely had he not been the ADA of record we would not have so successfully obtained the prosecution of these three.

We sincerely appreciate and thank him for his efforts and support.

It is an interesting fact that naturalized citizens and first generation Americans are often the most supportive of the rule of law.
