Here are the facts:

We are nothing more than a large group of citizens who are gathered in a great nationwide electronic townhall meeting because we are concerned about the liberals and socialists within our government who are stepping up their continuing assault on our constitutional rights. We are alarmed that the so-called "watch dog" free press is no longer working in the best interests of we the people or for the defense of liberty.

The major media, whom, heretofore, have stubbornly denied their liberal bias, are now openly joined with the enemies of the Constitution and of the Republic and are firmly allied with the political statists in an attempt to usher in a totalitarian socialist government. We dissenting conservatives who do not wish to see our Constitution shredded, and who do not wish to replace our Constitutional Republic with a socialist democracy, and who do not wish to see an end to this greatest experiment ever in self-government are simply using the media's own propaganda to spark the political discussion and to use their own words as evidence in our argument against their agenda.

The first amendment allows the press the right to print their lies, distortions, propaganda, and political arguments that they are using to persuade the people to go along with their socialist agenda, just as it also allows we dissenters the right to use the same material as proof of their bias and to offer our rebuttals and arguments in our attempt to persuade the public that the subversion must be stopped if our national sovereignty and our individual liberty is to survive.

We, as private individuals, have every right under the first amendment to use any political commentary, editorial, argument, or news of government corruption, scandal, or policy, or proposed policy, copyrighted or not, for political discussion purposes. The corporate media is using their power, money, and political might to force feed the masses their own political agenda. We have a right as individuals to argue against that agenda, especially, if what they are trying to do will ultimately end in the complete loss of our freedom.

I believe strongly in our individual rights to political discussion. This forum is not a commercial enterprise. It is made up of thousands of individual participants who are taking it upon themselves to locate and post political news. They do not get paid to post here and they do not pay me or anyone else for the privilege. There is no money or consideration or obligation of any kind changing hands. People do send in donations to help cover the expense of running the forum, but there is no obligation to do so and the donors do not receive nor do they expect to receive anything in return.

This nation was founded on the principle of individual liberty and that the best government is the least government. We are fighting, as our forefathers did, for our right to secure the Blessings of Liberty for ourselves and our posterity and I stubbornly refuse to believe that our Founding Fathers ever intended for political discussion to be stifled by corporate conglomerates backed by an act of Congress. The copyright clause of the Constitution was meant to promote the arts and useful sciences - not to suppress political speech. Copyright law used to suppress free speech is not in the best interest of the people or of our Republic.

These corporate conglomerates do want us shut down. They see us as a threat all right. Not in the commercial sense. We offer no competition to their multi-billion dollar "news" and entertainment monopolies. They see us as a threat to their political agenda. A handful of determined freedom fighters can wreak hell on their socialist dogma. I once swore an oath to defend our Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. I intend to uphold that oath. I will be jailed as a political prisoner before being forced to shut down this political discussion forum!

Two days ago, Jim Robinson laid out the facts about the state of FreeRepublic's finances and asked us, the members, what we wanted to do about getting a new server to help eliminate the outages we have been experiencing due to the recent growth in the number of users. We responded as we always have and within 24 hours we had raised over $17,000 toward the expense of the server, software and this month's operating expenses and a new server should be on line around the end of next week.

That gets us over the immediate hurdle but much remains to be done. We would like to continue this fundraiser to cover operating costs for the next several months and to add some money to the legal defense fund. It's just not fair for us to allow Jim and his family to live at the edge of bankruptcy or the court's whims about what should be done with his assets. It is up to us who value this site and what it has become to share the burden. Below you will see a link to the secure credit card server and an address to mail donations to. Once you've had your coffee and checked the morning news, could you update the totals including how many monthlies we have, new and total and how much they bring in? Then when the day shift wakes up they can apply MFM to your numbers and we'll know where we are. (Hope you're planning on takin Willa out for dinner again!)

We are at 36110 on credit cards.My guess is 2500 from 85 Freepers and Lurkers on the monthlies. Because of the massive amout of information on the monthly file it is over 30 pages long. I only print it when we get ready to run them, usually around the 20th of the month. It would take over an hour to add them up from the puter screen. I don't want to tackle that job now.

Although I lurk more than I post, I value this site a great deal. I stumbled across it months ago while I was exploring links from another site. I can't even remember what site it was now but up until finding FreeRepublic, I used to be a regular on NewsMax. There is absolutely no comparison. I found the forums on that site to be more argumentative rather than informative. I absolutely love getting on this site every day and reading the articles so many of you have taken the time to post. In fact, I have used the information and articles I have seen on here to give to many people I know at work.

A co-worker was leaning towards Gore a few weeks ago and was getting alot of her information from a friend that was giving her a daily dose of Molly Ivins (of all people) via e-mail. When she told me that I had a fit! I told her of all people to be reading during an election period, Molly Ivins was certainly not one I would put much weight to. Now, I must tell you at this point that I live in Texas and my co-worker, whom I am also very good friends with, absolutely shocked me because I had no idea she had any democratic leanings whatsoever. Up to this point, we had never talked about anything political.

One of her very good friends is a criminal judge here in Dallas and was appointed to her first term by GWB. She has always told me how much she respects this judge friend of hers and how highly she speaks of GWB. So, of all people, I never expected her to be considering voting for Gore. I immediately got on to FreeRepublic, searched for a few articles and links. For the first few days after this discussion, I sent her e-mail links without any comments from me whatsoever about what I was sending her so she could read everything herself and make up her own mind. After a couple of days, I didn't send her anything and she came around to my office and asked where her daily dose of reading was!!! LOL.

Then the vice presidential debate was held. I told her that day when we left work to make sure she watched the debate. As I am typing this I now remember that our first discussions that started my crusade was the day following the first debate, which she had mentioned to me that she had watched, then she brought up the Molly Ivins articles she had been being given daily.

The day following the vice presidential debate, she came into my office and was just beaming about how impressed she was with Cheney. She said up until seeing that debate she was unsure how Cheney would fit in with a Bush Administration.

This co-worker of mine lost her mother to cancer a couple of years ago. Her mother was in a retirement home and she would go visit her every Friday religiously and have lunch with her mother and her mother's group of Bridge Club friends. Since her mother's death, she continues to go every Friday and still has lunch with her mother's friends. They have all seemed to adopt her as their own daughter. I have been to this Friday lunch with her many times and these ladies are quite a treat to sit and visit with. This retirement center is not what you would normally imagine a retirement center to be. It is more like a hotel (in fact it is operated by Marriott). Most of the the residents there are quite capable of still living on their own but live there to have company, not have to cook for themselves and not have to drive anymore to run their errands, etc. It's a wonderful environment.

I found out shortly after the vice presidential debate that my co-worker has been printing everything I am sending to her (I still give her my daily dose of email links to articles). She takes all these articles to the retirement home and passes them around. She told me the other day that up until she started doing this the majority of these ladies and their friends were going to support Gore. Well, not anymore!!! I really owe it to this site for it's wonderful and imformative people all on here posting articles and linking to factual material to support what is going on in our country today.

I sent in a one time donation a couple days to help get over this immediate hurdle and have signed up for a monthly contribution just this morning. It's the least I can do to make sure this site stays up and running!!!!

great job, great story. I wrote on a earlier thread that I have probably turned 5-7 votes from Gore to Bush, and 2 people from Gore to Nader. I gave 100$ back before the fundraiser started, right after the first debate....

I fell compelled to add a bit to my previous post. I also want to say that I am married to a Teamster. To borrow Cheney's phrase, I keep him "loaded for Bear" with facts to discuss at work with his fellow Teamsters. He went to work just the other day with about 20 different articles I had printed for him. He posted them all over their break rooms.

He told me that there is not one person where he works (and there are over 1,000 just on his shift alone) that will admit they are voting for Gore. However, he says he has lost count at how many are openly saying they are voting for Bush.

Again, if I hadn't had the resources quickly available to me from this site, I would not be able to keep him loaded with the information he takes to work to post for his fellow Teamsters to read.

Not a day has gone by since I discovered FreeRepublic that I haven't spend an hour or so reading my way about. I posted once but having no computer skills leave it to others. Driven by the last several days of postings and the horror of being unable to connect a few times, I became a monthly contributer. I would say to those like myself, give generously. If collectively FreeRepublic believes anything, it would be "there is no free lunch".

I sure hope that's 85 new monthlies, not the grand total. Monthly giving is where we all need to be.

There's nobody here who can't afford $5 bucks a month (if you're that poor, you need to be working more, and FReeping less!). Some of us can afford a lot more. If all of us gave reasonably, in proportion to our means and our usage of this forum, FR's money problems would be solved.

It's a disgrace to let Jim Rob struggle with this on his own, while we have the means to do right by him.

great job, great story. I wrote on a earlier thread that I have probably turned 5-7 votes from Gore to Bush, and 2 people from Gore to Nader. I gave 100$ back before the fundraiser started, right after the first debate....

Driven by the last several days of postings and the horror of being unable to connect a few times, I became a monthly contributer. I would say to those like myself, give generously. If collectively FreeRepublic believes anything, it would be "there is no free lunch".

You are so right about the monthlies! It is so easy to have $5 or $10 or $20 come off your credit card each month, you hardly even notice, but when you consider how much several hundred freepers doing this would add up for JimRob, it makes you really appreciate the monthly contributors that much more.
