CNN's legal correspondent Roger the Cossack made an absolute idiot of himself today. Biased? A fool? Or expert at censoring the news, here's what I saw. I had been watching CNN's coverage of the hearing in Judge Saul's court. Bush attorney Phil Beck had been cross examing Gore's statistical expert Henberger for some time, and for non-mathematical or stitistically illiterate it must have seemed boring. My opinion of the Yale statisticians analysis was that it was very amateurish, something a freshman econ student could do in his first term paper. When pressed about any real statistical analysis to cross analyze the variation in data or even answer questions about the sources or extent of his data, the professor was vague and evasive.
At this point CNN dropped their coverage of the hearing and went to an interview of their legal analyst, Roger the Cossack, who opinioned how he did know much math and how the audience must be getting bored with all this statistic stuff and then, said something how in real court cases its all very dull, and you never see any Perry Mason type dramatic moments.
After a couple of minutes of this diversionary bullshit, I switched over to MSNBC who were still on life coverage of the hearing. Within 5 minutes, Phil Beck had Hernberger nailed to the wall for misrepresenting his data, lying in his affidavit/proper to the court and also with previously filed document to the Florida Supreme Court. He admitted that his staistical analysis was mistaken, blamed the Gore legal team for supplying him with false information and changing his affidavit without his knowledge. Judge Saul visibly stiffed in his chair, and my interpretation of his expression was one of disdain or contempt for the Yale professor and the Gore lawyers. Why should he believe any of the profs statistics - Gore's team had just been nailed with attempting to perpetrate a fraud on his court!
It was a sweet, dramatic "Perry Mason" type moment which CNN had blacked out with talking head babble. Was it just an accident that CNN did't cover this part of the hearing - the one key dramatic moment in the entire days coverage of the hearing? Or did they censor the coverage to save embarrassment to their Democrat friends.
A real professional news organization would hang their head in shame for such negligence, incompetence and bias. They would investigate and correct the problem. But at CNN is appears to be another daily example of their SOP - that's Stupid Operating Procedure - by the dim bulb Democrats that they employ. Is not any wonder to regular viewers of cable news why CNN's rating continue to drop. CNN's management need to hire professionals and not mere hack propagandists, else their viewership and reputation will continue to decline from being known os the "Clinton News Network" to the "Comedy News Network', an unintended real life parody of Saturday Night Live.
So Sweet... thanks for the report..
Da Bump
I watched it on C-Span; I can't take all those leftists telling me whats right. They're like mosquitos...very annoying.
BTTT
I know how you feel, these people give me a rash I can't reach! I just turn them off. As far as the mind is concerned, garbage-in garbage-out. We have to start finding other news sources, like Worldnet Daily.com, or NewsMax.com. Fox,etc....Otherwise I just get too lathered-up and start barking like a rabid dog.
Thanks for info...I just saw the ballsack filling in for Larry King. He was spouting the same type of garbage.
CNN = Censor Negative News (negative to the Gorons, that is!)
You might remember CNN's coverage of Congressional hearings a few years ago. The Democrat Congressman would get to ask his "softball" question of the administration's witness. Then the response would come from the witness.
Then it would be time for the Republican Congressman to have his 5 minutes. Suddenly it was time for a commercial!
They repeated this over and over.
RickGee
And they missed the best line of the day! When Beck was setting up this joker, he had him look at the affidavit on the computer and said to ignore the "Bush for President" at the top of the page. The Yaley tried to be funny and said it didn't have "Rats" anywhere....to which Beck replied.... "When we are finished with this we will have something very close". It was priceless! LOL. My wife and I howled for five minutes on that one!
Dadgum! That must have happend right after I left for work, but no problem, I have it on tape.
Might I suggest you watch the court hearings on CSPAN? They never interrupted the hearing.

I view them as mosquitos too! Every time I come in contact with their annoying buzz I swat'em with the swift click of my remote!!!
I think the next step in activism will be to hit them hard everytime they pull this stunt. Then, get a hundred or a thousand more to do the same thing. Don't let them get away with it any more! A bit of advice from an old wise man:
"If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time--a tremendous whack!"--Winston Churchill
If we whack them it will ruin their day. If we whack them as a force it will ruin their year. Just a thought...
Pretty funny report. The Fox reporter described the events CNN missed, after the fact, as like an A&E nature program where the lion circles the prey for 30 minutes and then goes in for the kill. The poor Prof was so stupid to rely on known liars to supply him information. Probably little he could have done to keep them from altering his written statement they presented to the court. [However they might have briefed him on what they had done to avoid making them both look silly.]
BTW, despite what we saw and heard with our own eyes and ears today, I saw an MSNBC group talking about how the Bush attorneys had not refuted the key evidence that Gore witnesses brought to the trial today. The real story of course is that the Gore side has given up in the trial court and is ready to lose quickly to get on to an appeal in the friendlier FSC.
Where the hell did the Gore Legal Team find such loooooosers that they had there today? C'mon! A friggin' guy with a voting machine fetish and a damn CANADIAN who is TEACHING in this country at YALE and isn't even a fucking citizen? No focus groups done on those selections. RE: CNN I've been doing some S&D duty over at Salon. Man is it ever easy to get them pinkos in an uproar! LOL! But the kicker is that they're forever whining about CNN as being too conservative! WTF? I guess when you're looking for a whipping boy, anyone will do, eh? Anyways, back to being a fly in their liberal ointment ;-) later,
You are 100% accurate. That is exactly what happened. I saw the exact same bullshit too. I was thinking, "it is getting very interesting, they are finally nailing this weasel down on the BS statistics he was using". Then, just at the crucial moment, on comes the CNN guy, telling us that "this is all quite boring, not much going on today"! I immediately switched to C-SPAN and saw the guy getting nailed.
I haven't watched CNN for a couple of years. It has hit new lows. This is getting to be like Soviet Union in the 1970s. Very sad. I can only hope that Ted Turner and Jane Fonda will burn together for all eternity.
Every time I come in contact with their annoying buzz I swat'em with the swift click of my remote!!!
LOL
I have found that if I don't force myself to watch these talking heads occasionally, with a barf bucket close at hand, of course, I am re - shocked when I go out in public and listen to people on the streets. I need to know who the people borrowed their view of the world from.
You've just explained why CNN's ratings are going down the tubes. MSNBC has been doing a fairly decent job of covering things if you can put up with their Gore sycophants, as has FoxNews except when Sheppard "If I Yell Loud Enough Maybe Someone Will Listen To Me" Smith or Bill "Have You Bought My BS Book Yet" O'Reilly is on. Of course, if you prefer no interruptions or want to watch it (again) on tape (as I am doing now), you can't beat C-SPAN.
I laughed too, but the courtroom didn't. They laughed at the Yalie's genuine mild witticism, but Beck's brilliant comeback got no laughs. But he did find the RAT, didn't he?
I saw that, too. But I later just decided to watch the court on C-SPAN. SCREW CNN! They don't deserve our time!
Judge Saul visibly stiffed in his chair, and my interpretation of his expression was one of disdain or contempt for the Yale professor and the Gore.
Did uhhh... hahaha....someone say uhhh... say uh..... stiffed? Hahaha
What I saw was the televised betrayal of one more Clintons-Gore friend. Filed for future reference.
They must of drugged them up from the proverbial bottom-of-the-barrel!!! Or they borrowed them from Disney's NEW WORLD! THEORYLAND!!! I've worked with some jokers who similarly mirror these CLYMERS!!!
Their whole existense is predicated on the MAYBEs, Exponential Posibilities and theoritical mumbo-jumbo, hocus-pocus Barbara Streissand!!! When you hit'em with hard-facts from "the real world" they fold like a cheap deck of cards! They have no grasp of the here and now of real life or its subtleties!!! What's that saying "Those who can do it; those who can't teach!"
They would have had to have been clairvoyent to do this on purpose. How in the world would they have known that the Gore team was about to get pummeled?
This is about pure ignorance and self-importance.

I couldn't agree more! This show of deliberate biased presentation is no accident. It's happened too many times to be an accident and the American people should be made aware in no uncertain terms of what they are dealing with in this extremely biased media we have in this country. I recommend Fox News Network. True they tend to have people that are inclined to be conservative, but at least you'll get the complete story with the fullest extent of the truth.
I haven't watched CNN for a couple of years...I can only hope that Ted Turner and Jane Fonda will burn together for all eternity.--Silas
Ted and Jane have enough money to artificially keep them going for a long time to come. Villager pointing to the castle on the crag: You mean the baron and baroness are still alive? They must be over a hundred by now! Ted and Jane are the type that vampire tales are told about.
Indeed. He found the RAT big-time. I watched it on Real-Vid C-span. It was classic... Lots and lots of boring crap, but you could tell that something good was coming. The Gore team kept objecting saying "what is the point of this" and the Bush fellow (sorry don't remember his name) kept saying, in essense, "hang on this will be worth it."
When he finally brought out the ballot, it was absolutely stunning. You just know that the judge was sitting there applauding at the major nail being driven against the Gore team. It was truely a Perry Mason moment.
I watched the whole thing while I was sitting here doing webpage maintennance, and it was absolutely brilliant! I was sitting there thinking to myself, "where the hell is he going with this?" Then, when it became clear, it was like a bomb in the courtroom. I'm very impressed. Boyles was speechless. This, in itself, was priceless.
Later, when watching the fellow who was an expert witness on rubber, I was laughing out loud when the judge pretty much told Boyles to go sit down because nothing he was trying to ask was proper given the strictures that had been laid down when he was objecting to the Bush team's questioning. I almost fell out of my chair. If the rest of this trial has been and will be like today, I wouldn't be suprised if the judge doesn't throw the whole Gore team in jail for wasting his time.
I quite enjoyed it too. It's such a relief to see Republican fighting back for a change and not getting shouted down in the process. I just hope George W. and his people are willing to fight the kind of war we have on our hands against these extremely liberal people. Never befor in this country would anyone have the gall to attempt to count a ballot for anyone that was not clearly marked or punched for a particular candidate. On top of that never before has a state's laws been so ignored that dictates how an election is to be handled. God bless you and your family. Maybe one day God will be able to bless our nation again.
They would have had to have been clairvoyent to do this on purpose. How in the world would they have known that the Gore team was about to get pummeled?...This is about pure ignorance and self-importance.--Demidog
True. But I believe there is a 7-second delay that CNN's directors often use to their advantage.
That is exactly what it going to take in a big way. You sound like my kind of guy W. I just hope that George W. proves out to be the same sort.
Hey you two. Just a gentle reminder. Watch your language. Parents have their kids reading this stuff.
"Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racist or violence posts. "
Just a reminder. Emotions get high. Restrain yourself.
Roger Cossack guest hosted Larry King Live last night. He was trying to ask a question about Trent Lott, but he couldn't remember Lott's name.
So many of you still torture yourself or maybe legitimately try to see how the "lame-stream" outlets are covering the events.
I strongly suggest you do as others have suggested and make the switch to C-SPAN. Five cents a month of your cable bill goes to fund C-SPAN1, C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN Radio. It is the best bargain you will ever get.
By the way, I heard Brian Lamb tell a caller the other day that C-SPAN Radio, now only in DC area, will be available nationwide in Jan 2001.
PS: I know this sounds like I am affiliated with C-SPAN. No, just a junkie for over 15 years.
They've been so biased for so long that most of the people left in their audience are red-meat liberals.
You mean "green tofu" liberals, ya? ;)
No one has mentioned as of yet that the papers offered by this professor to the Florida Supreme Court and to Judge Sauls Court were just drafts, not the finished products. Got the Goreon on that one too. The Judge was not pleased.
And where was the $2,000 an hour lawyer, Boise today? I missed him and his big lies.
First, welcome! Brother, we are gonna have to be GW's backup. The liberal press has called us dumb, racist, extra-chromosome morons, Nazis, KKK-er's, gun-toting hicks, whatever pops into their empty little heads is what they parrot on the nightly news. The liberal media has marginalized, demonized and dehumanized us, and is so biased towards the left it makes their 89% pro-dem voting record look rather thin indeed. We need to tear them a new one every time they spread their crap.
We just have to keep after it every damn day, every time they speak we must react by taking their names, documenting their lies and making it known to everyone that's within earshot we've had ENOUGH of their BS! We gotta raise a whole LOT of hell everytime they lie, and shove that crap right back down their throats.
That's what has been so good about these demonstrations these last few days, it shows the left they aren't gonna get away with telling their lies any more. That's what scares the fudge out of them, they thought they had the exclusive hellraising franchise. Well, at one time maybe they did, but no more. And they are about to get a facefull of cold reality...because we are just getting started, and there's lots more of us than there are of them!
"I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve."--Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto
"The same thing Yamamoto said, but worse! Oh, crap..."--DNC leadership
Some times CSPAN is prempted by my cable provider. At the time of the hearings the cable channel that's usually CSPAN was showing a sewing show. CSPAN-2 and FOXNEWS are not on our cable system. At times I feel like a 1960 Moscow samzidat trying to discern the truth by reading between the lines of the offial house organs (CNN/MSNBC=Pravda/Izvestia)and listening on the radio the VOL (Voice of Limbaugh). But once your eyes are opened and you have developed an IQ higher than lukewarm tap water, it can be entertaining watching the Democratic talking heads perform as parrots repeating their memorized slogans in surreal imatation of intelligent lifeforms.
Well said!
#37....Rose, I was watching the replay early this AM....and saw him sitting on the far right of his group of lawyers.
Just sitting this one out today, it would appear.
Get a satellite dish. In many areas it is cheaper than cable and you will get more channels than you can use.
"We have to start finding other news sources"
In case you haven't noticed, "we" already have. Welcome aboard!
CNN and NSNBC appear operating in the same manner, as both of them will always take a station break or totally change the subject whenever there is evidence being presented against Algore and his slime-balls. Brian Williams is one liberal socilist demonrat toady. I can only take a few minutes of his BS, then switch channels. I have not watched CNN since last September, and most likely never will again watch it.
I know, I know. Right now am watching a re-run of the Beltway Boys on Fox. But just like FreeRepublic on the internet, I always go to C-SPAN 1 or 2 first. It lowers blood pressure and gives a clearer view.
As for your cable operator not giving you 24/7 of both C-SPAN 1 and 2 I suggest calling them and demanding dedicated channels. If COMCAST even thought about dropping my addiction, I would be cable no more.
I think Sauls is doing a masterful job making David Boies's band of merry unich's think he is a backwater country hick judge. He's fixing to ram it to the Gore team without KY....
.
Great post! I missed the live coverage because we were rallying in the Big Easy. But thanks to your post, I was able to learn the truth about what happened.
If you watched the testimony of the rubber and plastic expert at the end of the hearing - you saw the Judge and the Gore attorney mix it up pretty good.
The Gore attorney (don't remember his name) really irked the Judge with his senseless objections. This ditz of an attorney totally lost it - forgetting the obvious fact that Judge Sauls is not only the judge but jury in this case. At one point super lawyer Daid "Nolies" Boies was seen tugging on the coat tail of his co-councel forcing him to sit down while making another senseless objection. The Republican lawyers could hardly supress their laughter, grinning with confidence that the Boies team's lies and lack of preparation had the co-counsels even fighting among themselves and in a total disorganized rout after the days battle for heart and mind of Judge Sauls.
Good for you at catching that. I was listening to C-Span radio and heard that cross examination. When the guy admitted that the DemocRATS had changed his sworn testimony prior to submission to the Supreme court of Fla., I about drove off the road.
In light of Boies antics with false cites, false affidavits, and changed testimony, I would like to suggest to Bill Gates attorneys that they go back over the Microsoft evidence submitted by Boise with a fine tooth comb.
Regards,
I am so sick of seeing Roger and Greta!
No wonder that CNN is talking BIG cutbacks when they have "on air" talent like that duo.
CNN has been out of touch with real people for years and the ratings show it. They will never be any good unless Turner sells it and maybe not even that will help. Where else do you get the president of the network sleeping at the whitehouse and the network calling Gore the winner while the Florida polls are still open? The people know. CNN is biased beyond hope and nothing will bring then back.
Thanks for explaining this. My wife was watching CNN. I couldn't understand how we missed this moment that was described on the trial threads.
Funny thing. My wife is conservative, but not a political junkie like me. Our roles are reversing on this though. She can't get enough of all the ins and outs of this Florida recount. Anyone else experience this?
CNN is in serious decline/disarray
The local (Atlanta) business community and newspapers se a huge retrneching/realignment right after the first if the year
FNC has seriously impugned CNN with one slogan....(We report/You decide)
Regards
I watched on cable. On our local cable CNN,CNN-HN,MSNBC,CNBC AND FOXNEWS are channels 44,45,46,47,48 respectively. I flipped them all and CNN was already showing the courtroom while the others were at commerical, so I watched CNN. When they cut away and started critiquing the hearing I clicked to Fox and saw the scenario you described. I didn't see it coming and was elated when the trap was sprung.
For those who are wondering why the Gore team offered up such lame "expert" witnesses you've got to remember they have to find someone who will testify "their way". Those people tend to be idiots, and not in possession of all the facts. Those who have their heads screwed on straight don't see it Gore's way and are automatically disqualified.
Did you hear Henberger say "I imignied this is how things could have played out" when refering to his FLASC writen testmony. I was floored when he said Imignied.
Beck took that idiotic Yale "assistant" professor and butchered him in prime time. No doubt CNN wanted to protect its sensitive Democrap voters from the gore (no pun intended) of Beck slicing and dicing the "assistant" prof. and the feeble Gore legal team. I loved it.
FOLKS REMEMBER AFTER THE TRIAL. ON CNN AND MSNBS DID ANYONE SEE 24/7 coverage?...NO....only one show...Matthews was a replay...and NO BIAS ?...THINK ABOUT THAT...NO FOLLOW UP AT ALL.NO CHRIS MATTHEWS ?NO PAT CADELL ? EITHER THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE(blantant bias) or GORE IS quitting and the media just can't lie well enuf to convince US.
and it ain't Roger Cossack anymore.......it's ROGER COSSACK(ER)
Something no one has thought about is that this was televised on SATURDAY..... meaning, a much larger audience. The sheeple who do not follow politics will get their entire impression of the Gore case from this one trial.
Gore was utterly destroyed yesterday.
In real life, I investigate govt. fraud. Some of my fellow investigators use fear and intimidation to get to the truth. I have found, that if I just make the person comfortable and get them talking about themselves, not only do they lead me to the source documents that prove fraud but they thank me. It is much easier than boxing them into a corner they feel they have to fight their way out of, and then have to prove it all on my own.
Just like killing a chicken for dinner. If you chase the chicken around the yard before you wring it's neck it will be tough and tasteless, if you get it drunk , it doesn't care if you wring it's neck and the meat is much more tender.
I quit watching cnn yeasrs ago, but in public places like airports cnn is what they have on. Reuters news gives the most good points made to the judge to the gore team.
HAPPY BIRHDAY, BUDGE.
I watched the hearing (on C-Span)and found it qite gripping as Bush attorney Phil Beck brought "Maxwell's hammer" down on Hernberger and the Gore team.
Of course if you watched these proceedings on the Communist News Network you get the Ted Turner view, ie: what things look like when you see them while having your head up your ass.
I saw ROg and Bill Schwineder discussing the "Boring, tedious" day...it was so "tedious" that I don't know how it could keep anybody's interest...what does a day of "tedious" testimony have to attract the American People???
Orwellian, and they must know it.
I wondered if anyone else noticed the same thing. When Beck was going in for the kill, they cut away. I shifted to c-span for continuity. Did I also catch "we" instead of "them" when describing the gore team's chances?
If you think CNN coverage was bad you should read the front page article in the NYT. Just one passage is sufficient to give the tone:
"Mr. Gore's second witness, Prof. Nicholas Hengartner, a Yale statistician, had a somewhat easier time. His job was to testify that the percentage of nonrecorded votes for president was five times as high in counties with punch-card voting machines as in those with optical readers. He said a manual recount allowed about a quarter of those nonvotes to be identified as votes in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, but only about 8 percent in Palm Beach County because it used a stricter standard in judging indented ballots.
Mr. Beck, on cross-examination of Dr. Hengartner, found some inconsistencies between his testimony and a written statement he had filed earlier. But the lawyer did not really shake Dr. Hengartner's testimony, suggesting only that voters who approached a punch-card voting machine tended to walk away without voting more often than those who used optical ballots. Dr. Hengartner said there was no evidence to back such a theory."
One must wonder if the NYT watched the same proceedings. This is the only discussion of this testimony in the entire article.
CNN is on its way down. We have to continue to boycott CNN. They are preparing lays off of some staff, already. Go down CNN, Go down. We'll watch it with joy and satisfaction.
The only news the New York Times prints is that which has been faxed from DNC headquarters. No original thought or TRUTH is allowed. I recently e mailed them to complain about their bias and they wrote back that they were insulted that I would think so.........I kid you not!!!!!!!!!
This is clear away from the trial. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of a university Yale has become after watching the testimony and reasoning of the "professor". Beck had more analytical analysis while trying to conduct cross-examination than the prop from Yale. Gore's witnesses must have been selected for their ideology, it couldn't have been for their expertise.
Hehehe! Thank you, Liliana!
I believe I heard Judge Bork say that he was barely tolerated at Yale and considered the token conservative. He made it clear that he did not feel welcome there at all. Just think, Princeton brought us the odious Mr. Sean Wilentz, Harvard brought us Dershowitz and Tribe, UPenn brought us political correctness in the extreme. Dartmouth is listed in certain handbooks as a great place to go to find anonymous gay sex.......the bottom line is that our universities and law schools have been successful in producing the current lawlessness in the guise of the end justifies the means and damn the constitution.
|
But the lawyer did not really shake Dr. Hengartner's testimony
Beck showed that the fundamental assumption behind Hengartner's analysis -- that the two races he studied were in different columns on the punch-card ballot -- was false. Nothing Hengartner did with the math after that matters a bit, because the phenomenon he thought he was measuring was not there at all. He'd been tricked by the Gore legal team into preparing expert testimony based on a falsehood. The New York Times may not have understood this, but the judge sure did. I'd like to think that we could attribute this misleading reporting to incompetence rather than malice, but to do so we would have to ignore the dozens of instances leading up to the election where the New York Times did indeed "protect" its readership from learning unpleasant things about Gore's prospects. It really is like watching Orwell's Ministry of Truth. |
Outstanding analysis.
