Barring any electoral college surprises, George W. Bush will be sworn in as our new President on January 20th. Over the past several weeks, the light of conservative activism has been turned up dramatically, and focussed like a laser on the election turmoil. Now that the Florida fiasco is behind us, how best can we direct our efforts?

As the title of this thread suggests, I believe it is imperative that we not settle into complacency. Conservatives as a group don't want to engage in perpetual war. We are more interested in home life than in public life. Like the Roman general Cincinnatus, we want to win the battle and go back to our farm. But we face a foe that has shown it will NEVER give up. The socialists must be DEFEATED and DEFEATED and DEFEATED. The events of the past 37 days have been eye-opening. I think that more and more conservatives are realizing that this battle is perpetual.

One of the delicious facts of the past weeks has been the utter shock and dismay on the part of the Rats as they have watched conservatives take to the streets and peacefully protest against their attempts to steal the election. Their hypocrisy is so readily apparent--doesn't the first amendment apply only to them, after all? They never thought we would steal a page from their own playbook. They expected us, based on past experience, to lay back and take it.

Well, no more.

As many of you have seen, yesterday the Hartford Courant published a hit piece against Free Republic. Like many others, I e-mailed them to protest their hateful propaganda. I finished my letter with the following statement:

The First Amendment gives you the right to publish your newspaper free of government interference. It also gives us the right to peaceably assemble and to voice our views. You may not like it, but you had better get used to it. Because we are just getting started, and you are going to hear a great deal more from us!

As I see it, the effort is fourfold:

1. Freep the Rats. Let them know that they are not going to get away with ANYTHING! Shine the light of truth on them. Expose their moral and intellectual bankruptcy.

2. Freep the Republicans. Now that we have given them the reins of power, let's keep their feet to the fire. We cannot expect miraculous changes, given the slim margins in the Congress, but progress on our issues is expected. We need to reach out to those Democrats who we can persuade to support our agenda, but no power-sharing! No more just getting along.

3. Freep the people. We need to educate our ignorant fellow-citizens about the proper role of government, about the Constitution, and about the traditions of our Republic.

4. Freep the press. With the Rats out of power, the liberal media has become ENEMY #1. We must march at them from every front. Let them know that we will no longer submit to their propagandizing. Refute their arguments. Counter their spin. Make their lives miserable!

I am taking #4 as my personal mission. I have seen several posts recently soliciting suggestions for how this campaign against the media can be waged. Yesterday, for example, Michael Rivero proposed going after the media conglomerates on antitrust charges. If you have links to any of these threads, please post them below. We need to have some sort of central clearinghouse to coordinate our activities. Perhaps a weekly or daily thread, like the "USA vs. Clinton - 37 Days left!" countdown threads.

Any suggestions on how we can better organize our campaign against the media?

We should definitely FReep as often and wherever practicable.

I would also encourage everyone to start fighting voter fraud locally now.

In four short years we will have to face Hillary. Let's make sure that this one will be on a level playing field.

"Michael Rivero proposed going after the media conglomerates on antitrust charges

One of the worst things that was ever done, was getting rid of the limit of ownership of radio/TV stations. Back in the 70's, when I was still in radio, no one could own more than 7 radio stations. This was originally intended to prevent what is happening in the media right now, a monopoly.

With the deregulation, corporate giants are buying them up as fast as they appear on the market. Eventually, we'll get all of our news from one or two corporate giants holding all of the podiums.

We need to lobby the Bush administration to put these limit laws back into place, if it takes an anti-trust suit, so be it. The media has had a ball demonizing the tobacco, gun, and software industries that clinton went after; its about time they had a taste of the same.

Some suggestions (practical and impractical) I have seen on other threads:

1. Freepers run for local political offices.

2. Buy one of the TV networks (wouldn't CBS be a nice Christmas present for Jim Robinson?)

3. More realistic would be to focus on acquiring local media outlets.

4. Short of that, putting pressure on local affiliates over the national coverage they carry.

Let's turn their tactics against them! Demonize BIG MEDIA! Look how much TV our kids watch! They end up being couch potatoes, and suffer poor health as a result. Chronic TV watching undoubtably contributes to obesity, heart disease and premature death.

And to think, these evil media conglomerates ply our children with their appealing programming in order to raking in HUGE ADVERTISING DOLLARS! These greedy corporate pigs are only concerned about their obscene profits, at the expense of the health of our children!

Turn off your TV, FOR THE CHILDREN!

Sue the media conglomerates! They must compensate us for the extra health care costs! We need this money for the children!

(Do I have the right Gephardt tone here?)

A coordinated effort is always best.

I would like to single out two who need some immediate input from we conservatives:

1. Tom Daschle who is currently blocking a bill on placing voting stations on domestic military bases.

2. Moaning Joseph LIEberman who will probably immediately try to resume his "conscience of the Senate" role.

These two smarmy, devious, hypocrites need to be well advised that we are watching. Regards,

"Freep the Republicans. Now that we have given them the reins of power, let's keep their feet to the fire."

There are a couple of problems with your post, but i will just point out three. One, Bush is not a Conservative, so please do not insult us conservatives. Two, what rein of power do you speak of? Have you been paying any attention to the news on this planet lately? The US Congress is split 50/50, the Presidency has very little to due about domestic policy so that brings me to number three.

Three, this point I did agree with. Holding their feet to the fire. But to do such, you need to hold both parties feet to the fire, but more so its leadership! Especially Tom Delay.

Rivero is a dolt! Rivero should be brought up on charges of impersonating a carbon based life form. He's an Idiot! You tag a media outlet by its sponsors, and advertisers, just like the gayrights group did against Dr. Laura. Taking CBS down the legal pipeline on antitrust charges is a waste of some poor critters money.

I'll give you a BUMP on this.

I particularly like #2. Just because we won doesn't mean the fight is over. In fact it has just begun. It will take alot more than the next four years - especially with a divided Senate - to roll back the march of socialism. We have to start preparing for 2002 elections to make sure we maintain, if not expand our hold on the House. How many Senators are up for re-election in 2002? We need seats there the most.

I have been writing a letter to the editor of the Houston Chronicle regularly for years. They only allow one letter to be published from someone each 90 days, so there's only so much each Freeper can do. But I've been getting my four letters a year published, and we could do much better with more Freepers involved.

For example, in today's Houston paper there were four letters denouncing Bush and the Supreme Court, and none in favor of our side. That's not acceptable.

Every Freeper should take it on himself/herself to write to their local editor on a continuing basis. Many newspapers take letters by email. The subject of the letter couldn't be easier to compose. There is plenty of material from posts here at FR to compose a letter on any given day. We could even have a running thread here consisting of published letters from Freepers.

We can do better in this regard, and it's not hard to do. If you can compose a reply here at FR, it's not much harder to compose one for publication in your local paper.

Let's swamp them with well-written letters which counter the liberal bias!

This is all nice rhetoric.....but will YOU REALLY do any of this on a regular basis? Is there any way we can organize so that we accomplish certain, identified goals in a timely manner, or at least make attempts to INFLUENCE (harass) those in power so they listen. I guess I'm just afraid in the busyness of our lives we will all think someone else is doing it....What specific goals would we have? Who would be responsible? Would we know if we were successful? I don't think this is just politics....I think this is the boomer's WAR - we are continuing and (Hopefully) finishing what our fathers and grandfathers did - the fight against socialism/communism. Just my thoughts and opinions. I commit to work in WA state against motor voter....

I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but unfortunately there are more Republican senators up for reelection in 2002 than Democrats.

Where we really need to target are 'Red' states like the Dakotas, that vote republican for president but elect Democrats to the senate. The media costs in these states are very low, and the Dems pour money into them because they know a senate vote from North Dakota counts just as much as one from New York. We must do the same and get rid of the Daschles.

Thanks for your input. You make many excellent points! We must move beyond the rhetoric, and put our ideas into action. This has happened throughout the presidential campaign, and particularly in the last several weeks.

My post was a call to avoid complacency, and to figure out ways to coordinate our efforts for maximum effect. Passion, organization and focus are key. Look what a small, devoted group of socialists have accomplished! Look at what Rat special interest groups achieve. We must turn their tactics against them, in service to our causes.

Re: The media and suggestions. VERY PUBLICALLY expose these vermin. They claim they want the limelight ? Give it to them. Publically identify their home addresses, their home phone numbers, license plate numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, previous convictions, name changes, everything. They'll scurry like the cockroaches they are. Do the same thing with the movers and shakers of the Left who are behind the scenes.
Name them and shame them in their own neighborhoods.

Do what the Romans did in Carthaginia. Salt their fields so that they can not grow crops. In short, dry up their sources of funding. Salt the fields of the Left and return them to where they belong; on the LUNATIC FRINGE.

Go to your local town, city, village meetings every 2 weeks, sit up front and in the same seat everytime.
Introduce yourself to the members of the party that represent you, tell them that you want to be involved,
Speak up about the issues that concern you in the public forum part of the meeting. You will become known to both
parties in no time as a concerned citizen, always remember that your one voice represents a thousand voices.
If they know you vote, they want your vote and they will pay attention to you. I have been called a gadfly, extremist,

Bush IS a Conservative. You are speaking of degrees only. If he had run as a far-right conservative, Ghore would be prez. Then you would have the likes of Alan Dershowitz & Teddy Kennedy nominated to Federal District Courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Then the SCOTUS would eventually be legalizing all kinds of bizarre behavior, like gay marriages, legal sex between people of ANY age, and any other Lib agenda you can imagine, and some you can't.

If you DON'T like those prospects, then we must accept working from where we are, with what we have. You can't roll back decades of Liberalism overnight. The truth is, it will take decades to roll it back. G.W. Bush realizes you have to get the reins of power first, to begin to steer this mammoth ship back to the right.

Patience and perserverance are virtues, and further, nothing else will get us where we as conservatives want to ultimatly take the nation.

The response to this in the last 24 hours has been overwhelming. I was planning to wait until after the first to kick off a discussion thread on this idea, but I think that i the spirit of striking while the iron is hot that we'll start ramping this up this weekend.

For the time being, let's call this idea "Smash the Media", but that's just a working title to identify the threads with. Ideas for names and logos are definately welcome. I'll have a mission statement up Saturday for feedback.

Kood-aid drinker! Bush is no where hear a normal Conservative, by any sense of the word. Cheney is the Conservative. Bush is what I would call a Christie Whitman Conservative! A/K/A a Moderate! Bush's appointments to the US Supreme are yet to be seen. But they will be more Souter like than Thomas like.

Most of his Texas Judgeships have been this way. So what makes me believe that he will change. NADA!

Correct, Bush's judgeship appointments remain to be seen. I am as far to the right as any Freeper, but I am a pragmatic realist.

And I stand behind my assertion as fact: You will not in this political climate get a far right politician elected to prez. We go from where we are. The ONLY way we will get where we want is gradually, painful as that is to us impatient humans. If you want any progress to the right, the only path right now is via Pres. Bush

I'll pass on the Kool-aid. Name-calling amongst us gets us nowhere.

and I will CONTINUE to be in your face until: My taxes are cut by the promised 55% (for my bracket) The military of my country is restored to full strength, and then some (including big, FAT raises) A number of irritating gun laws are REPEALED The National Endowment for the Arts AND NPR/PBS are DEFUNDED. (Let Hollywood pay for it; they've got the money) Several Cabinet-level departments are SHUT DOWN, especially Education, followed by Commerce and Energy That will do for the first few months...I can come up with more ideas as time passes.

Easy to make these demands; unfortunately, it's a lot more difficult to see them delivered.
President Bush has to deal with a 50/50 Senate split and a razor-thin majority in the House of representatives. He is not a Caesar or dictator who can simply decree tax cuts or anything else on your wish list (which is a good one). Sadly, we won't get most of the things you listed; maybe a small, ineffective tax cut and military spending - especially on pay - will certainly increase but shutting down Democratic-built departments like the NEA simply will not happen. Ronald Reagan couldn't pull that off, even with a 49-state election victory in '84 and a direct line to the American people that President Bush probably won't enjoy.
President-elect Bush will do some good for the country, but he will never overturn six decades of creeping socialism in America; just slow it down a bit, and that, sadly, is about the best we can expect. I'll take it, although pounding the table and 'demanding' he overturn the government IS a lot of fun. Too bad it gets us nowhere.

Yes you raise an good issue of time. However if history continues its path, we conservatives will have to wait for the next century before we can muster a force again. The far right has damaged the conservative movement badly, to a point where we have to become compassionate conservatives now.

I always thought we were pretty much compassionate. As far as the name calling is converned you last post proved you fair and reasonable, so I retract my Kool-aid remark.

    Sounds like a good start!

Nevertheless, we find ourselves in an unusual situation. We have control of power, but by such a slim margin. And the RINOs are unreliable. We must be both realistic and determined. And work like hell to get more seats in congress in 2002. And work on the state and local levels to get more conservatives elected. Since the presidency usually goes to governors, we need to raise up even more experienced, conservative governors so we have a strong pool of candidates for future presidential elections.

In the meantime, let's also SMASH THE MEDIA!

    SMASH THE MEDIA
    CRUSH THE MEDIA
    FREEP THE MEDIA

    I can't decide which I like best!

I concur; I am probably living in Fantasyland. Doesn't mean I can't continue to get "in their face" about it, even if only for purposes of personal amusement.
