N.J. Teacher Charged With Assault

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (AP) -- A teacher who allegedly bound the hands of two pupils and tied sneakers around their necks has been charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment.

David Bellani, 30, a gym teacher at McKinley Elementary School, has been suspended with pay, school officials said.

One child told his parents that Bellani made him sit in front of the class, tied his hands together with tape and tied his shoes around his neck, police said.

Another boy told police Bellani used his sweater to tie his hands together and tied his sneakers around his neck.

Bellani did not immediately return a call to his home seeking comment Wednesday morning.

And why is there no mention of what the little angels did?
I might have been induced to do worse.

These boys wouldn't be complaining about this if they had experienced JUG (Justice Under God) at any Jesuit run high school like St. Peter's Prep!

Oh, you know that they were just being well behaved little boys like all the children today. Then all of a sudden this mean, brute of a gym teacher came along and made poor billy cry! WAH, F--ing Wah. Get a grip! Brat kids need to be humiliated every once in a while to keep them in line. What ever happen to the good old days when the teacher socked you in the head for being out of line? I'm only 28 and they still did it when I was in school! Can you say--- the Liberal Left!

Paul Begala's mom was infamous in the Fort Bend (Texas) school district for suing the district over "swats" that one of her kids received at the hands of a gym teacher.

The Prefect of Discipline at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston Texas was notorious for keeping the boys in line, but the football and track coach was even worse!

JUG? Hey, we had JUG too! I've been out of high school (taught by Oblates of St. Francis DeSalles) for 25 years and I never knew JUG was an acronym.

Gee... those kids got off easy. I saw kids get lots worse punishment than physical restraint for mouthing of to a teacher or failing to observe rules. But then again, government schools don't offer discipline in their curriculum.

Why do you immediately assume the kids were horrible brats? Personally, I don't trust anyone in government schools, and I can't understand why people entrust their children to them. Maybe the guy is a sadist or child molester. Besides, don't you think this is a rather bizarre form of discipline? I don't see humiliation as a positive.

I am with you on this one. I must admit I was surprised by the response on this thread. So many willing to let some stranger tie up their child - I thought I was in the wrong village.

Right! Nothing the kids did should justify this humiliating physical abuse. The teacher should be trained in noncorporal discipline, and disciplined himself, with docked pay. Let him learn his lesson, and apologize to the classes publically, like Patton. That will not keep him and the schools from being sued, but that is the just way of redeeming him, if he is otherwise worth keeping on.
