Humor Break - Stupidity of Some Florida Residents never fail to amaze

Political Humor/Cartoons Miscellaneous Keywords: STUPID FLORIDA VOTERS

The stupidity of some people in this world
never fails to amaze.

This picture is real - not doctored in anyway - and was taken in Waldorf by a Transportation Supervisor for a company that delivers building materials for 84 Lumber.  When he saw it in the parking lot of IHOP, he went and bought a camera to take pictures.

The car is still running as can be witnessed by the exhaust. A woman is either asleep or otherwise out in the front seat passenger side.  The guy driving it was over jogging up and down on Rt. 925 in the background.  The witnesses said their physical state was OTHER than normal and the police just shook their heads in amazement.  The driver finally came back after the police were there and was getting down at the back to cut the 'twine around the load.  They told him to get back until it was taken off.

The materials were loaded at Home Depot.  Their store manager said they had the customer sign a waiver! Both back tires are trashed.  The back shocks were driven up through the floorboard.  In the back seat were 10 bags, 80 lbs. each of concrete.  On the roof are many 2X4s, 4X4s and sheets of OSB.  They estimated the load weight at 3000 lbs.  The car is a VW Jetta with FL plates and the guy said he was headed for Annapolis.

JUST UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

(Are these the same people who couldn't follow the instructions on the FL punch ballots?)

Ain't that something? No wonder we had problems in Florida!

Ummmmmmmm, Waldorf and Annapolis are both in Maryland, not Florida. The two in the car probably haven't had a chance to retire and move south yet...

Perhaps Florida residents building their dream home in PG county? Anapolis seems a bit too yuppie for this...

PS: Don't give a damn about the whole state of Maryland, I'm from the Eastern Shore (as the song goes)

I can't hardly believe they made into the IHOP parking lot.

Well duh! They crunched their car in Florida, expecting to make it to Maryland? It didn't occur to them to purchase in Annanapolis and in much lighter increments? We are talking some serious drugs/booze here...

What a shame. I don't really get the point though. Hell, anyone could forget to put an extra hundred pounds of air pressure into a tire to reasonably compensate for a little heavier load. It's an easy mistake to make.

years back I worked at a tire shop in Iowa, had this guy come driving an "el" car can't remember if ford or chevy. He had the thing loaded with railroad ties, said he needed air in his tires, I said you need to drop some of the load. Well he goes and puts air in the tires and blows one, wants me to change his tire I said sure just as soon as you unload the car. He wouldn't unload it I didn't fix it. Saw him after I'd closed shop with the car unloaded bumber jack in hand. Some people just don't understand the weight limit of anything.

Been having a few on my state as well from Texans, Bert.

To get their heads back to the correct size all we have to do is remind a few that some of their "best and brightest" elected Sheila Jackson-Lee and also gave us LBJ......hehe.

I can't believe Home Depot loaded that even with a waiver. I once wanted to buy a 12' 2x4. They not only wouldn't load it for me (I didn't ask), but they wouldn't let me leave with it period. They said it was too long and hung out the back too far unless you have a lumber truck. They were probably right.

I don't tend to be a litigious type, and obviously the two in the car deserve whatever they get. But that car looks extremely dangerous to people who had nothing to do with it, a public hazard. Assuming that it actually got moving on a public road (I don't know how far from HD the IHOP is) it could have resulted in something serious. A load of 2x4s dumped in the middle of traffic could mess things up. Someone from Home Depot needs to have their head examined. If that car had tipped and hit me I would not be looking to a couple of "OTHER than normal" types for compensation.

Well he goes and puts air in the tires and blows one

Years ago a fella in my high school class overloaded a tire to the point it blew and in the process got himself killed. I couldn't tell you what hit him, but I do remember it took half his face off.

I have always remembered that whenever I put air in my tires, but once on the NJ turnpike the guage was off and I later found out I had loaded all the tires on a Datsum B210 up to about 62 lbs. It did have a real firm sort of feel to it. I now always carry my own guage.

I can't believe Home Depot loaded that even with a waiver.

Something doesn't add up. I'm an illustrator, and also a photo-retoucher, and this doesn't appear to be retouched. If it is it's a damn fine job.

But my mechanical engineering background smells a rat. A 3000lb. static load? Can a car roof support this without caving in? I seriously doubt it. You can practically dent the roof of any car by just pressing down with your hand. The weight estimate seems to be about right: 40 sheets x 75 lbs = 3000lbs.

And what about the twine? What load can the twine take? And why didn't the sheets slide? At that angle some of the sheets should have slipped. I don't see how 40 sheets of plywood could remain in a "block," especially when I can't see any wrap-around twine.

I would imagine the roof is rather flat (crushed) though it cannot be seen. I would also guess that the Home Depot where the stuff was loaded was probably in the same shopping center. I agree, they can't have driven that thing very far.

Look closer at the back seat roof - it is crushed. Look at the amount of twine holding it. I imagine it is very precarious and a simple "twanging" of one of the twine lines in the back would break it and result in catastrophic failure of the roof load.

The picture is real, I have seen it discussed and debated elsewhere months ago. The police that came arrested the guy for being on drugs. I believe the home improvement store did have them sign a waiver, while standing underneath the big sign that says "we load your vehicle at your instructions and your risk".

This kind of thing happens. When I worked at a gas station back in the early eighties, there was a guy who used his Saab like a pickup truck. He once came in with the shocks bottomed out and the back full of dirt on top of a tarp. What a moron.

OK, I'll take your word for it. I noticed this afternoon that the roof rack on my minivan says "Warning: Maximum load 110lbs." So it was only over-loaded by 2000lbs!
