Freeper Demographics

Miscellaneous Miscellaneous Keywords: DEMOGRAPHICS
Source: Vanity
Author: Redangus
Posted on 01/30/2001 09:15:17 PST by redangus

My wife and I were discussing my favorite websites last night over supper and the conversation turned to the demographics of the various sites. I came up with what I thought the demographics probably were for most of the sites, but realized the only way to know for sure was to ask. So here goes.

My guess for freeper was 70/30 male, 30-60 on age range, predominatly white, mostly red zone, fly-over country, well brought up ie.-well mannered, gunowners and conservative(duh!). So how close am I?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I am a 49 y/o, WPM, SUV/pickup driving, gun-owner who lives in Indiana and enjoys flyfishing, surfing the web(truck BB, conservative BB, and sports BB),reading non-fiction(mostly polictical commentary/history), gardening(vegetable & flower), trap/skeet shooting and tweaking liberals.

You are probably right..

Another common bond amongst FReepers is probably something like this....

You got a little older and you actually started paying attention to current events/politics. Along comes the Clinton gang AND the internet and you realize no one seems to be telling the truth about this man Clinton. You become frustrated with the major media, dissatisfied, you feel like you are being lied to on a daily basis.

You find yourself thirsty for truth and light, and through a friend, a link, a mention or a tip, you find FreeRepublic.

I bet I just nailed over 90% of FReepers. ;)

Very accurate, though I'm only 24, and in the blue zone (MA). Then again, I was born and raised for 18+ years in Bush Red (NH).

Let's thank New Hampshire for redeeming casting its votes for Clinton the last 2 elections!! :)

22 year-old urban dweller (from Washington, D.C....'nuff said) and graduate of a college with a fairly leftist slant. Former socialist Democrat (though I didn't actually realize I was a socialist, I thought I was "progressive") with two solidly conservative parents.

Grew up in Northern Virginia. Don't own a gun, but am a staunch and vocal supporter of 2nd Amendment rights (and the Bill of Rights in general). I am an NRA member. Among my pet conservative issues are taxation, regulation, and defense (pretty general). Mostly interested in economics. Love reading Civil War and Revolutionary War history, and southern historical writings. Love beer and flying.

You certainly nailed me! I became a FReeper when I crossed over from wanting to be merely informed on the Clinton scandals to having a deep need to get the TRUTH behind the spin.

I especially appreciate FReepers who know how to parse news stories and having the opportunity to network with people who really know what's going on. I hope FR can harness the power of the internet and be a source for positive change.

I'm 56 White Male, retired from my primary careers of Radio and Advertising. Now operating an entepreneurial business on the Internet. Married, raised Methodist, conservative realist. We live in a paid-for house, drive two paid-for cars, have no debt, love to travel. And this is as flyover as you can get - Nashville TN.

Let me be the first female to upset the demographic information.

26 year old stay at home mom who hates Rosie O'Donnel, Oprah, and most Hollywood Hacks.
Lutheran
Rural Wisconsin
Unfortunatly, we are a Union Household (excuse me while I barf)
We are always struggling financially. We are borderline lowerclass/middleclass.
My husband used to argue with me that we needed a gun in our home to protect us. I didn't want a gun in our home. Free Republic has educated me, and now that my husband works 3rd shift and I am home alone at night I realize that I would be more safe with a gun to protect my children than a 911 phone call. As soon as we can afford one, we will get one.

I'm so glad that I found FreeRepublic.

I'm a 32-year-old chino-african-american lesbian who practices wicca on a sprawling NH farm when I'm not throwing fundraisers for Mike Dukakis in my Back Bay brownstone. Instead, I travel to public schools throughout the Commonwealth and hand out birth control and safe sex accoutrements--kind of like a Safer Sex Johnny Appleseed.

62 Year old WCM, Retired, MBA, who started supporting GW in late 1999 when all of the ultra liberals and the far out Lers started their massive hate attacks on GW! They were rightfully afraid of what he would do as president, and I hope that they stayed terrified for the next 8 years!

Married to same woman, St Jeann, for putting up with me for 39+ years, and my sons in their 30's.

Active Episcopalian all of my adult life. Most of our friends and social activities are connected with people in the Church or at the Church. I've been senior warden many times, on finance commit. for about 20 years, and involved in many projects including an retrofit in case of an earthquake. This project was proven to be a success after the devastating earthquake hit Napa last September!

I was a liberal repubie until the Cuban Crisis. That woke me up to what socialists/communists can do to our world! That critical event started me on my long road to being a Conservative Republican!

During the election of 1992, I stopped watching screaming heads programs on Sunday tv, all national lunatic lib news, cancelled subscriptions to NewsWeak, Slimes and SF newspapers for their liberal lies!

My news comes from the conservative news sites and from great boards like Free Republic, which I support financially!

I have a very responsive email group which generated some great emails on their own during the attempted Putsch by the Goron dictator to be! What is encouraging here are the 30 something age wise, males and females who got involved for the first time in being active and vocal in politics! This includes a couple of gay males who despised what was going on in their country, the really rare bird, a conservative black male and his wife, and a couple of 30 something young females!

I firmly believe that conservative talk radio, internet conservative news and interaction sites like FR prevented the destruction of this nation when the Vile Leftist Extremist tried to install a dicatator. We are only one dictatorship away from losing our republic!

Besides doing things with my wife, I'm an avid Fly Fisher. Since I'm retired, I can only afford one expensive hobby, so my hunting has taken a back seat. I still target practice 3 to 4 times per year to keep up the skill. I can still hit the bullseye at 100 yards with my Rem. semi auto 30-06 and a 3 X scope shooting free hand and as fast as I can! I drive a big OJ Simpson white 1995 Bronco as part of my anti contribution to the Global Warming scam!

Last but not least, I have a wonderful 20 month old grand daughter. She will have a new brother in 4 to 5 weeks! Her father and his brother are on their own and doing well. Her mother is a great woman, and we are helping her to find the way to conservatism. She is learning fast!

28 yo white hispanic female, former liberal Dem (gag), who saw the light 2 years ago and became a formal member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Never voted for Clinton, but I did vote for Perot, which is kind of the same thing in hindsight.

Pro-life, Pro-gun (my first lesson is next week), and I love my country and the Constitution. My greatest wish is to see Elian return to the United States and Cuba to be liberated from Communism forever. Actually, that one is tied with seeing Clinton and Co. sentenced to life behind bars with no chance of parole. I'll take either or both!! LOL!

Work as a secretary, but my real passion is conservative activism. Main goal - to recruit FReepers on daily basis until we are the outspoken majority.

Proud to be a Florida FReeper!!

I don't know about the other FReepers, but your description nailed me BIG TIME, venturin. One difference is that I've always paid attention to politics. Of course, while I was raising my children, I had a lot less time and attention to devote to such pursuits.

redangus, I didn't see very much of me in your description at all. (By the way, what is 70/30 male? Is that a super-alpha male? I'm 100/100 female.)

My guess for freeper was 70/30 male, 30-60 on age range, predominatly white, mostly red zone, fly-over country, well brought up ie.-well mannered, gunowners and conservative(duh!). So how close am I?

I'm a 48 year old SWF, veteran, one son (24), currently no pets. I live in north-central Wisconsin, own no guns, but support the 2nd amendment. Born again Christian who stopped going to church after our Pastor left for the mission field and a secular humanist was installed in his place. Haven't found a decent church since.

Glad other girls responded. ( giggle)

age:38
Born in Peoria, Illinois.....strong Republican Family
Educated in Illinois and Switzerland
Met my Knight, my Hero( my husband)while working on a film.Thought I was the ONLY conservative in Hollywood ( which I hated except for the fun of acting LOL )He has been a stuntman for many years.
We own guns for protection and also skeet shoot.
Work out 3 days a week and love to be active, although my husband has problems with his knees and sometimes his back from too many high falls. Yikes
Drive an SUV and have another car for fun. He has a couple of motorcycles. Varoooom ! ( giggle) We have more or less retired to live quietly in the moutains, which I love.
We are both very strong conservatives , Christians, have voted Republican all our lives.
We do not have children of our own , yet ( giggle) Hope to. So meanwhile we have many animals, care for three dear children from abused homes that come and stay with us in the summer and at Christmas time.
We absolutely LOVE Free Republic and I do the posting. He tells me he would rather do a stunt and go through a window then sit and type. LOL But he reads along with me as I sit here and he yells at the TV while we watch ALL the political talk shows . Heh heh
I was very lonely to meet other people that believed as we did and had the passion we have for Truth and the Constitution. To meet others that did not like (we hate him Clinton ) . So to come here and meet the neatest people, with the same passion and you are all such fun is fantastic. I have learned so much from so many of you .
FReepers are the BESTEST ever ! And Jim Robinson is our Hero !

Unlike liberals, conservatives are a VERY diverse group by all sorts of measures - politcal, racial, religious, etc. It would be interesting to have a survey done.

As for me I am a 27 year old libertarian. Pro-gun, pro-life, pro-constitution, anti-government extremist. I'm of middle eastern decent (Lebanese mom, Palestenian dad), Christian family, although I'm agnostic personally. I work as a Computer Programmer professionally. Hobbies include aviation (instrument rated private pilot), boating, sports cars (BMW!). I also enjoy metaphysical engineering.

I think Bubba turned many people into serious political junkies because of his bad behavior and because it became clear early on that he would do anything and everything he could get away with.

It would be interesting for a full demographic study to be done on the FR membership.

I bet I just nailed over 90% of FReepers. ;)

Degree in Business Admin. and after four years in Public Accounting hell, have worked in Commercial Real Estate ever since.

I fit some parts of the profile.

31 years old, Hispanic, married, and the proud father of 3 year-old twin boys (future freepers Jonathan and Joshua T.). I also have a six month old Bouvier des Flandres puppy that's an absolute joy except when he tries to herd me. (If you've ever seen the clip of Ronald Reagan being dragged across the White House Lawn by a big black dog, that was his Bouvier, Lucky. Lucky was retired to the ranch in Santa Barbara and a staffer bought them a smaller dog for the White House.)

USAF--6 years, Desert Storm vet. Now work as a Financial Advisor/Stockbroker. Unfortunately, I live in the blue zone, San Jose California. I've been working very hard on my wife to convince her to leave California and move to the red zone in Arizona or New Mexico, where my most of my family is. (Gore barely carried New Mexico--that should've been red as well.)I don't want my kids going to school here in California.

I'm also a hardcore Free Republic addict...I stayed up all night on November 7th, monitoring this site, and then went back to work the next day. I think a lot of us were tired that day.

I've been to an Assembly of God service a couple times, but being raised Catholic, the lack of structure was absolutely mind-blowing. My girlfriend is Lutheran, but she's even less spiritual than I am.

I went to Catholic school, K-12, and we went to mass every single school day, so it wasn't until high school that I was really aware that they were actually other Christian denominations out there. Well, we had a Presbyterian girl in grade school, but that doesn't count.

Of course, the fact that this area is very heavily Catholic doesn't help matters much. I can think of about 10 Catholic churches all within 2 miles of one another.

Well since everyone has elaborated a bit, I guess I should as well...

Status: Single Female (haven't found Mr. Right yet)
    Age: 31
Bkg: Only girl in a three child family, raised primarily by my grandparents since my divorced mom worked full time. Grew up in a working class family with a grandfather who was a staunch Republican and retired GM plant manager.
School:a proud graduate of an inner city public school system, and made it out with scholarships, both acedemic and athletic. Grad of Michigan State Univ. and Masters Candidate at Aquinas College. Hey Laura Bush, if you're lurking, let me know because I have some great ideas for literacy and public schools!
Hobbies: any sport, mainly volleyball and golf, pets, reading, computers (naturally)
Most liberal leanings: I am an animal advocate as I am a sucker for a pair of sorrowful eyes, and, while I am staunchly pro-life, I don't believe the government has the right to tell me what to do with my body (ok, fire away!).
Most conservative leanings: Taxes, guns, personal responsibility, and the miltary. Basically, I know what is best me, not the government. Just call me the girl next door...
Motto: If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
Good qualities: extremely independent, opinionated, and a free spirit.
Bad qualities: extremely independent, opinionated, and a free spirit.

30-something, married, white female. (I like to say I'm 5'11" with long blond hair.) Engineer/manager married to an engineer/manager. We have 2 girls (5 yrs. and 14 months). I live in Northern Virginia and am a proud member of the DC FR Chapter.

I was raised in a very conservative and religious family. I rebelled and registered Democrat when I was 18. I continued to have socialist leanings all through college until I graduated and entered the real world. Now I'm a registered Republican and I think I get more conservative and more vocal about it every day, thanks, in part, to FR. (But, I'll never be as vocal about it as my husband who thinks it's his duty to turn everyone he meets into a "right" thinking person.

My interests are cycling, cooking, sailing and reading SciFi when I get the chance, which is seldom lately.

turn offs are ugly people, fornicators, and techies.
I found FR while sitting at work THINKING my website would make me rich. Boy, was I in for a surprise!

I am a big supporter of large airline seats, working out(for those athletically inclined), shooting beer bottles(in neighbors refrigerator) with a .357 from close range, and otherwise sitting in my condemned building making fun of poor people.

Well, we had a Presbyterian girl in grade school, but that doesn't count.

Lol, guess I don't count. I can certainly understand why some denominations or individual congregations could make someone, shall we say, become less than enthusiastic. I have problems with those in my own denomination who would change it in ways that make the whole point of being together in christian fellowship meaningless.

Having said that, I detect a spark in your attempts at going from time to time. Perhaps in time you will be touched. In any case, I wish you well CHRISTopher.

    Godspeed, TJ :-)

LOL I didn't mean it that way :oP

I was simply alluding to the fact that, at that point, I was too young, unknowledged, immature, naive, whatever, to understand that her thing didn't quite go along with everyone else's thing. (Sorry I didn't use better phraseology, I'm kinda out of it today.)

When someone asked a teacher in 3rd grade why she didn't go up to recieve the eucharist, they told us she was allergic to it.

When we were finally informed that she was a Christian, just not a Catholic, it was like... "Wow! You mean there's other stuff out there?"

Yup, so now there's no excuse. Let's get FReeping. Indiana is traditionally a GOP haven. Between the Dem straglehold on the governor's office, Julia Carson (she's GOTTA be the one rep we lose!!!), a Dem Mayor of Indy for years, IBT getting shut down by the IRS, an evenly divided state legislature, and Evan Bayh (cute face, Socialist policies, powerful "moderate" PR machine), the opportunities are there!

For the specifics, I'm pushing 70 and doing the best I can to live up to my chosen name [curmudgeon], overeducated and underpaid during my working career. Collect guns and clocks. Slightly to the left [of Mussolini].

Getting too old (57) to be doing this all the time, but I'm still younger than Cheney!

Although I am an avowed, 3-way pacifist, I still believe self-defense is always justifiable.

We live in a small immigrant neighborhood with people of every religion, every race, and from 35 different countries. Most all of them are war veterans of wars against Communists. We have some who were on the "other side" as well. One gentleman, an Iraqi, is a saint - he was a general and he ordered his men to throw down their weapons, climb out of their holes and stand aside. He was personally responsible for saving the lives of at least 100,000 people. And all he had to do to accomplish that was give up his country, his family, his wealth, and every other element that defined his place in the world. But, I think he gained his soul.

The neighbors are all very conservative.

My environment does shade my viewpoint on a fair number of issues. When I post a response, it frequently reflects my observations right here in the 'hood.

I forgot one comment: I'd bet female-male is a lot more even that 30-70. I'd give it 40-60 or even 45-55, which reflect the voting gender gap.

I was at the FR ball, and there was definitely no shortage of women! And while we lack the left's quantity, I bet we come out ahead in Quality. :)

I think that you'll find that the percentage of female FReepers is far higher than 30%. I can't prove it, but I've seen anecdotal evidence to support the contention.

Hey - this is beginning to look like the personals.
    Here are my demographics:
    48 year old SWF - also with a four-pawed floppy-eared child (actually 2of them)
RN + Clinical Analyst (IT professional)
    Conservative non-denominational Christian, very pro-life.
Not a gun owner but an NRA member.
From the red zone (Colorado) but have lived in various other places around the globe (missionary brat)
Was a liberal in college (do they do that to everyone?) but saw the light once I hit the real world. (A strong conservative family helped, too.)

    47 yo female.
    Married once, 30 years
2 grown and married sons, 4 grandchildren
We own an SUV 2 pick-ups and lots of guns, though I don't hunt, shoot and fish the rest of the family does. My parents were raging liberals but they rarely voted. I've been politically minded since a US History class in high school. The teacher wasn't a liberal, he was a communist! I could see that he talked nonsense right away and started looking at my own beliefs then.

Before the internet, being a politically active person was frustrating because most people don't want to talk politics, they want to talk about kids or clothes or other stupid things.

Close, 'cept I'm deep behind enemy lines in the Blue Zone. (I get real funny looks too as I pass people in my SUV with the NRA sticker, the BUSH/CHENEY sticker, and the red W on the back window.) I'm not into fly fishing; I prefer deep sea fishing to freshwater. There's good hunting around here since the lib/socialist pukes don't venture out past the city limit signs. And there are plenty of good cigar shops around. I'm a happy "hostile alien" here in enemy territory.

I'm a 44 year old MWF, divorced from hubby #1, born and bred in President Bush's home of Texas (also 3rd and 4th generation Texan on both sides of my family-Take my picture if you're in town!)

Art Historian by profession, with an M.A. and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University (Laura Bush's alma mater, too-Go Mustangs!) My goal in life is to help clean out the awful PC "art" and its artists from the NEA and get the government out of the Art business!

Don't own any guns-yet, but don't tempt me! Almost broke down and bought one during the Gore coup attempt.Learned how to shoot at summer camp.

I'm not a registered G.O.P. member (yet, either), but I've voted Conservative all my adult life, starting with Gerald Ford in 1976.

I was raised a Southern Baptist, from which I am still recovering (although their Bible training is second to none), and became an Episcopalian. Now, I prefer to think of myself as "Spiritual" and Christian rather than the member of a denomination.

Re: "Italians begone!" As the descendant of an old, distinguished Italian family, I can tell you this: "The Italians you will always have with you."

Real life name is Todd and my wife's name is Margo. We have three daughters named Tiffany, Molly and Hillary (after the First Lady). We hail from the People's Republic of Massachusetts and we usually vote liberal. Though we have been known recently to vote for moderates, for example Ted Kennedy and Ralph Nader (PLEASE don't tell our neighbors, they will just SCREAM)!

Margo went to Wellesley and contracts herself out as a "sensitivity trainer" for many Fortune 500 companies. I went to Harvard and am now a stay-at-home dad where I am able to spend lots of quality time with my three daughters. I also do volunteer work when I can and recently helped organize the Kwanzaa celebration in my hometown of Cambridge. Both Margo and I are atheists, of course, and we instill those same morals on our three children.

We own a 1988 Volvo that we only use as necessary. Whenever possible, we use public transportation. We enjoy PBS and National Public Radio when we are in the mood for some TV. Otherwise we like to listen to Celtic music and curl up on the couch reading. We are subscribers to such progressive publications as Mother Jones and The New Yorker. We were just heartbroken when George ceased publication a few weeks ago. Our favorite website is Salon.com and we are buying their stock as quickly as we can because we just know it is going to take off again soon. We urge our fellow Freepers to buy now because the opportunity to own Salon.com may pass you by if you don't!

We are a vegetarian household, of course, and all dairy products are taboo as well. We do all our shopping at the Bread & Circus. I can make some wonderful dishes with soybean and tofu that my wife just dies for when she returns from a hard day at the office. I have a lot of hobbies but one of my favorite pastimes is sewing. I make all my wife's dresses for her and have even made a few (blush) for myself for when I putter around the house. Hey, if it feels good, I say go for it!

Margo and I are into all the new age stuff, of course. We are into crystals, tarot card reading and wicca in a big way. If any of you Freepers are ever in the area, feel free to drop in and see us. We'll burn some incense, throw on some Enya, and groove in a major way! Margo and I have been known to "swing" if you know what I mean and I don't always play the happy husband either, if you catch my drift!

We are peaceful people for the most part but when it is time to fight, we fight. For example, over in Lexington, they tried to put this nativity scene during Christmas. It might have been three towns away but we weren't going to wait for that kind of nonsense to come to our backyard! So one night, Margo babysat the kids while me and a few of my fellow househusbands snuck into Lexington after midnight and pelted the nativity scene with eggs and chocolate milk. Sure enough, it was removed the very next day! It is amazing what can be accomplished if you set your minds to it.

Anyhow, I sure hope this information helps you folks here at Free Republic put together the demographics. I believe I represent the average Freeper and so I speak for many when I say BOO to President Bush and YAY for Al Gore who would have been our president if only they didn't disenfranchise all them poor black folks down in Florida. Up here in Massachusetts, we are very progressive when it comes to black folk. We let them vote twice and even three times to make up for all them times when they didn't get to vote on account of being slaves and all.

    Toodle-doo!

    55 Year Old Female

Married to outdoorsman who loves collecting firearms, hunting, anything outdoors. Have two kids, four grandchildren, work at financial firm.

Became a Freeper after waking up one Saturday morning and watching a grey haired woman in Broward County count every piece of paper she touched as a vote for Gore. Became incensed and even protested at our state house.

The Clinton years have instilled in me a sense of rage and I find myself become more of a radical Repub than even I ever imagined.

You nailed me! I am 59 WF, and my son turned me on to FR. He also introduced me to Rush 9 years ago when we lived in Houston.

I have been a teacher - math in grades 6-12. I am opposed to vouchers. We need discipline back in our schools, fewer administrators, less paperwork. Let teachers teach, and not worry about what is pc. My 9 year old grandson started a Bush for President club last year when he was in the third grade. My two youngest grandchildren, age 4, both recognize Bush on TV, and Rush, and others prominent in politics. I became active in local politics, and my grandchildren haved helped fold and stuff mailouts.

I always enjoy these threads. It is a curiosity for most of us, I think.

I'm a 51 y/o female, Christian/Lutheran, married 30 years this July. I live in North San Diego County, California. I am a native Californian and grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. We've been in SD since 1974.

I am a life-long Republican with two daughters and two granddaughters and a new grandbaby expected in August.

It's tough being a conservative on the left coast, but it hasn't always been this way. After all, we did give the nation Ronald Reagan. Remember that when you snarl at our poor liberal state.

By the way, if you've never heard of hashing, every freeper would love it! Check out this site for a hash near you: www.gthhh.com Click on your state and try it! By the way, if there are any hashing Freepers out there, I'd love to here from you. My hashing name is UpChug, and I'm the Grand Master of the OKC Hash. OnOn! P.S. Happily don't fit the profile. MWF love my conservative husband. He goes out to earn a living for our family and I stay at home and take care of 3 sweet kids and home for him. Homeschool - wow, I am finally learning geography! Christian - I'm going to heaven when I die - nothing better! Grew up in a conservative Christian home, several generations back (if not in the dozens.) My family from So. Carolina was THRILLED when Strom Thurmond crossed on over to the Republican side with us.

Watch Walker, Texas Ranger with my family. Favorite moments on television: watching Dan Rather the night Reagan won by a landslide the second time (he kept saying, "It appears that Reagan has won, but we're not sure if it's a landslide, yet" Of course that was at 9 pm EST and half the nation's polls hadn't closed yet.) And this year's first Walker, when an assassin tries to kill his soon to be wife, and she pulls her loaded handgun out from under her pillow and starts unloading it at him. I was so happy my kids saw that, life as it should be (legitimate self-defense) esp. since we're from a dastardly gun control state. We're red -haven't missed voting for the winner except once all last century. That means we were blue twice for Klinton. I guess our state goes with the flow, even if we say you have to show us. Main issue is literacy. If they can read, they can know the truth.

THRILLED TO SEE ALL THE YOUNG FReepers!

    I'm a 58-year old retired Intel Officer and a newly-minted duffer American.

Until I retired and returned to the ZI or CONUS-jima, I was basically an apolitical Reagan democrat. Wife of 35 years and I moved into our retirement home here on Cape Cod in Aug 97. While painting the room that would eventually evolve into my "command bunker," I started listening to Rush. The transformation was complete, and the rest, as they say, is history.

USAF (SS) veteran, BA Govt & Politics, U. of MD. Three grown children (solid conservatives!) RC family, second generation Irish.

If you look at the red/blue demographic map, you'll see a tiny red spot on Quainte Olde Cape Codde. That's my little village. A LOT more Bush/Cheney bumperstickers than Sore/Loserman ones. Entering my third year as a Freeper.

OK--I need to add more to my post above. As I said, I am 23 in Akron Ohio. Urban dweller now but hopefully moving to the somewhat more conservative exurban/suburban areas soon. I don't yet own a gun but soon will. I am a basic "leave-me-alone" type of Republican as describes on commonconservative.com. I am not extremely religious, maybe more agnostic or Deist, but favor the idea of Judeo-Christian morality in society. I also enjoy surfing the web, 80s hard rock music, movies, and electronics.

This is kind of an interesting question to me because it lets me see what other people think is important about their life.

I am 66, retired from the Federal Government (U.S. Coast Guard and NOAA) and a Navy vet (destroyers and Carriers). I am a registered conservative Democrat (yes there are some)and a working farm owner that tends to vote in every election.

I am an oceanographer and engineer by training. I have two advanced degrees and a diploma from the Naval War College. I have taught math part time for about 12 years on the college level.

I recently started hunting again. I have collected guns since I was about 10. I enjoy shooting all types of weapons, sporting and military. I generally hit what I shoot at, but I never considered myself a good shot since my cousins could outshoot me every time we shot together.

I go to church most every Sunday, and I taught adult Sunday School for about 20 years. I recently stopped.

I am interested in history and science. I read a lot every day. I have been doing computer related work since 1960 and continue to do so.

I ride a motorcycle as weather permits (a BMW R 1200 C and a 1969 Triumph Bonneville which I have had since 1970) It has been overhauled several times, needless to say. I work on old cars (American and British). As I say, when America knew how to build cars. There still is a little of a hot rodder in me, but the insurance rates have slowed me down some.

I firmly believe in a strong defense for our country. I have traveled extensively both foreign and in the US. Consequently, I know what a great country this is. My belief is that," There are many people in the world that would shoot you right between the eyes because you are an American. There is also another group of people that would do the same to you just to get your shoes. There are many that would gladly do so because you are a Christian." This means we need the Marines, the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force, and we need to know how to use them to get our point of view across. But every time they are put in harms way you have to say to yourself," Do they have adequate resources to accomplish the mission and would you be willing to have your sons or daughters guts blown out to accomplish the given objective?"

I demonstrated in DC to impeach the First Pervert. (I still think that the Senate made a grave error when they didn't remove Clinton from offic. )This is where I stumbled across the Free Republic.

Keep your powder dry. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, " No private gain from public office."

I just knew I shouldn't have posted my pic. It has this effect on all the women. Before I know it, my mailbox will be inundated with requests for dating, massages, and other fun stuff from Backhair lovers and those who love "all" of a man.

Ah well....that's what comes with the looks that God gave me....

Cool! Rush also had a big influence on me. I began to listen to Rush right after I got married. He seemed to confirm the beliefs I already had. He made me realize, I was a conservative. I introduced Hubby to Rush. We've been listening to him ever since. BTW, hubby is of English /Irealand descent. Grandkids have Lt. brown hair and green eyes, except for one, LOL. He looks like my side of the family. Hubby is a Lt. Col in the Marine Corps, I was a social worker for 18 years.

    and now look...

I haven't received this much attention since I was in prison.

How about a get-together at some Indy bistro?

I'll be at the Majestic in Indy Saturday night for a romantic weekend getaway with my wife...reservations at the new Adams Mark, NO kids. Wouldn't mind seeing a few Freepers if there are any out and about downtown Indy Saturday night. We will end up at the Slippery Noodle, come on down.

Demographics, that's awful close to that other word.

Son of a retired Army Officer, who was the son of a retired Army Sergeant. Fanatically married, 48 year old (actually only 12, leap year baby) retired Army First Sergeant, 11B, Ranger, AMERICAN MADE SUV driving, gun toting, Southern by the Grace of God American. 4 sons, 30, 14, 12 and 7, one 4 year old grand daughter. Youngest son bats left, throws right, learning to switch hit, wants to take Chipper Jones place at third for the Braves.

Recently graduated from college after 30 years and now looking for a real job in the computer field. I'm a Kelly girl at Eli Lilly about to run out of work, wife is a Registered Nurse at Indiana University Hospital.

Not quite. I'm a female in her late thirties (Good God, when did that happen??) mixed race, no gun, blue zone survivor, and cranky as hell. Actually, I was fairly apolitical until the Age of Clinton hit, when I realized that some extremely bad craziness had descended on the country and it behooved me to become as well-informed as possible about it. Free Republic has probably helped me in this goal more than anything else has, and for that I am extremely grateful.

Besides, without you guys I never would have learned basic HTML!

This will really muck up your survey. 66 year-old retired contract negotiator/administrator, mostly in defense. Wife of 39 years is bookkeeper (time out to raise two adopted children), very wise woman. Two grown children; son, 34, married last year (no kids yet), is a brilliant computer programmer for pre-IPO software company; single daughter, 30, trying to find herself after surviving homelessness and heroin addiction in San Francisco and attempted murder last July at hands of her lover (he's doin' four years in state prison)--she's now recovering well in a witness protection program. (From that, nobody on this earth knows better than I the true meaning and effects of companion or spousal abuse!)

I was born and raised in a small mining town in rural Nevada; entered Cal Berkeley 1952 for four years, then Military Intelligence (oxymoron!) for three, back to Cal for one and a half for BS in Business Admin. Still have strong ties to Nevada. Parents both strong conservatives, also son and deceased brother--daughter is on the left but slowly seeing the light (supported Bush, hates Tipper). I began lurking about FReeperville in December, registered in January. Pet peeve: Fractured grammar, especially misuse of "it's" as a possessive pronoun instead of a contraction. We have lived in same 2,000 sq. ft. house for 36 years in Cupertino, CA (heart of Silicon Valley)--now worth an astounding million bucks. We live within a mile of De Anza College, which that screwball was going to blow up yesterday. Property taxes, thanks to Prop. 13, are now only $1,100 annually!

I'm single white/female (OOOPs!! not really). Well you can't be more off the mark. I am female (40) (Italian/American - Roman Catholic) and a registered Independent but I usually vote Republican. I live in Westchester. I work in NYC in a very liberal Democratic Investment Bank - the same one that Rahm Emanuel works (former Clinton Advisor) so I am outnumbered 30,000 to 1. I love Free Republic and feel like I am at home here. I don't own a gun but support gun owners 100%. Don't own an SUV (just a subaru forrester). Subscibe to the Civil War Times and Wild West (I'm crazy about american history). Just really love this country!!

I see a fair amount of 20-something male freepers here...but no females. It's unfortunate, but would we agree that most conservative women, those here included, don't "wake up" until they are at least 30?

As a 22 y.o. male freeper, I have to agree.
I am deep in the demoncrats' lair in New Jersey, finishing a finance B.A. at one of the most liberal colleges in the country, working part time as a waiter for the money, and am a small "L" libertarian, trying to get away from the northeast coast ASAP.
1st, 2nd, 4th, 10th amendment rights discussion kept me at FR after I was looking up some whitewater info years ago.

46-year young, self employed MWF. I managed to slop through school and get an Associate degree, but never got around to completing my Bachelor’s (although I attended a conservative, Baptist college) degree. My family was staunchly Virginia Byrd Democratic (so they were fairly conservative). I rebelled as early as first grade, championing Richard Nixon (perhaps because everybody else in school was for Kennedy?) for President.

I'm totally, politically incorrect. I think everyone should have the same chance in life, regardless of color, sex, religion, or anything else. I am a target shooter (and my 11 year old daughter is learning to behave around guns responsibly), love animals but think humans are superior, and hubby and I own a number of antique gas guzzling cars with no smog control thingies. My personal vehicle dwarfs most SUV's and drinks diesel to boot (heh, heh). I'm pro-Life, Christian and conservative. I like Rush, Bill O'Reilly, Hannity and Commie, and the Black Avenger, to name just a few. Free Republic is my absolute favorite place.

I don't homeschool, but my daughter goes to a private Catholic school.
