Ex-Prez Heckled Over Pardongate

In another blow to Bill Clinton's post-presidential prestige, his first paid speaking engagement deteriorated into a shouting match with an audience member who was upset over his pardon of fugitive billionaire Marc Rich.

Reportedly the ex-president grew testy while being heckled on Pardongate by an investor at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter's Monday night conference in Florida.

According to an account published in the Washington Post's Reliable Sources column Wednesday, the heated exchange went like this:

CLINTON: I pardoned Rich because there was no controversy about the Rich pardon. I didn't pardon [junk bond purveyor] Michael Milken because the Justice Department, the SEC and so many other people were against it.

FEMALE HECKLER: That's ridiculous! Rich fled the country and never faced prosecution. There was no controversy about Rich because nobody even knew about Rich.

CLINTON: (now red faced) As far as I knew, Marc Rich and his wife were Republicans. The worst thing in the entire aftermath of the Marc Rich pardon was when people said I pardoned him simply because I had a relationship. If you have a problem, write (Attorney General) John Ashcroft and have him sue Marc Rich.

On another note, Clinton hinted that he and his wife may be planning a return to the White House.

"Eventually I will resume my career as a civil servant," he promised the crowd.

What, no Secret Service to throw the bum out? What’s an ex dictator to do?

Please read, or re-read, the "Posting Guidelines."

Postings containing threats of violence are POISON here.

Out of thousands of thoughtful comments made here at FR, the Libs look for stuff like this.

Believe me, your post will come back on another website to haunt us all.

Keep you chin up and press on - CAREFULLY.

> If you have a problem, write (Attorney General) John Ashcroft

I like it. Ashcroft should look into the vandalism of the White House by the Clintons; criminal conversion of White House property by the Clintons; wholesale violations of bribery laws by the Clintons; campaign law violations by the Clintons; the treasonable sale of American military secrets to a foreign enemy by the Clintons; and the Clintons' tainted blood scheme back in Arkansas, which is arguably first degree murder -- and there is no statute of limitations on murder.

FEMALE HECKLER: That's ridiculous! Rich fled the country and never faced prosecution. There was no controversy about Rich because nobody even knew about Rich.

CLINTON: (now red faced)

This woman is doing the job the American "mainstream" press deliberately refused to do during the eight long years of the Clintons' reign. Look how easily a simple statement of fact and the truth can refute lies! The American "mainstream" press has demonstrated to me in ways that cannot be denied that they are no longer interested in the truth, only POWER. In this respect, they are no different from Hitler's propaganda machine. For this reason I always refer to the "mainstream" press as the "NAZI news."

"Nazi news" is a quote I got from a book by a jewish woman who survived WWII by going underground and assuming the identity of a German christian (The Nazi Officer’s Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust by Edith Hahn Beer). In speaking of how the "Nazi News" put its spin on the German defeat at Stalingrad she says:

" So closely controlled and manipulated was the news that even this disaster could somehow be made to stimulate renewal of the German’s fighting resolve.... With such hysteria, with such total control of the news, it was entirely possible not to feel how severe the defeat at Stalingrad had been, not to put it together with the news of Rommel’s defeat at El Alamein and the Allied landings in North Africa, not to understand that the war had turned against Germany and that this was the beginning of the end, but to still believe that Hitler would soon conquer England and the world. To live in ignorance, all you had to do was listen only to the Nazi news.

My use of her term "Nazi News" is my one person campaign to delegitimize the "mainstream" press. It invariably gets a startled response and initiates a discussion during which example after example of the press's calculated failure to confront lies and their complicity in denying the public the knowledge they need to govern themselves is demonstrated. Just like the Germans during Hitler's Reich, America's "Nazi news" keeps us living in ignorance and believing lies.

He threatened a former President...who is still protected by the SS...just read his post. He specifically said, "I" meaning himself....

Although he may have been frustrated, it doesn't MATTER. The threat will be taken seriously if seen (which I have no doubt it will be) and then he will have to explain why he said what he said.

We have already gotten enough bad press about threats suppossedly made by FReepers in the past (and there have been visits made, that I can verify). It doesn't matter WHO he threatened, it matters that it WAS a threat. Jim Rob won't take kindly to that....nor should we.

Now you know and I know that Denise Rich begged Clinton for the pardon, by mail, by phone, in person -- no doubt on her supplicating knees -- and with great, fat bribes. And we also know that Denise Rich is about as Republican as Comrade Mao.

But I say unto you, relax and enjoy. It's fun to watch Slick turn beet red when he tells a whopper that flagrant.

Followup question should have been, "I'm not asking if you pardoned him because of a relationship, I'm asking if you pardoned him because of a bribe."

Next followup, "If you did pardon him because of a relationship, is there a blue dress that can be used as evidence?"

The SS would have two or three people monitoring cause there is A LOT of info on this board. I doubt they monitor it. Why would they need too. This is the first "threat" that I've heard on this forum and I've spent 100's of hours here. The SS probably reacts to information passed on from others, but maybe I'm wrong.

Another good diary of the subject (ie NAZI news techniques) is the Klemperner Diaries (sp?). The time period from 1933 - 36 is especially illuminating how the Germans were twisted by their (arguably) diverse media into sheeple.

apology accepted as far as I am concerned. The SS still protect former presidents. Your comment wouldn't be wise at any time, but was even more foolish considering the white house shooting yesterday. I actually hope the SS contacts anyone who makes a threat. Plus, Billy Jeff and company are great to have around. The more people hear about them, the less votes the demo's will get in 2002 and beyond IMHO.

Don't wish them any harm? Speak for yourself. And I'm not threatening anyone if I "wish" for harm. I certainly don't "wish him the best". My birthday is in April and there's no telling what I'll "wish" for. It's called free speech. I didn't see a threat in that at all. Patriot simply expressed his oppinion on what he thinks would shut Clinton up. And, sadly, he's right. Clinton will stay in the limelight until he breaths his last. He thinks any press, good or bad, is good. Msnbc has a reporter asssigned full time to him. He'll never go away. However, I'm the last person to want to see him become a martyr. I'm hoping he keeps doing what he's doing. It gets worse every day and eventually even the Black Caucus is going to get tired of him and he'll become a miserable old fat man playing golf with O.J. That's my wish for him.

We may never know how much Rich deposited in the Zurich bank account...

Agreed. He is being truthful when he says that it was not political. Clinton is not stupid enough to give this goon a pardon for a mere 1.3 million in political contributions. I would guess that it took AT LEAST a $50 million Swiss bank deposit to buy this pardon.

Regarding #44, yes, I accept your apology, and hope you survive this. You may not realize it, but your previous unwise statement may very well appear in print to represent the whole site (printed by our so fair --sarcasm -- news media). Then the few politicians who are proud of our citizen forum get hurt, and that in turn hurts really a lot of people. Perhaps you and we all need to go to some sort of anger management training! Yes, maybe a LOT of people after these 8 years will need to undergo some training to correctly focus our righteous indignation! :^)

"What, no Secret Service to throw the bum out?"

And THAT is the best part of the story. Critics of Clinton have been restrained from public confrontations by the expectation of immediate harassment by the SS. Now that the goon squads are no longer being sicced on them, the outspoken members of the (former) opposition are going to be making themselves heard loudly and often.

And the Dogpatch Caligula's speaking engagements will become limited to small (and diminishing) groups of true believers.

T'wit, the 1979 sniper murder of Little Rock journalist Jusy Danielak, then the UPI Statehouse reporter in Little Rock, has also never been solved and there is no statute of limitations on her murder, either. Particularly if her death resulted from her following up on a tip from either a Republican or Democrat Arkansas legislator about a rape a few months previously by the former Arkansas Attorney General, at that time having just advanced to the Governor's job or whether there were other as yet undisclosed motives for her assassination, it would seem that her death also represented a violation of her first amendment rights as a journalist to seek and publish the news, even if her actions embarassed important politicians.

Certainly if the Justice Department can go after 20-year-old civil rights violations and crimes like the sniper killing of Medgar Evers, they can also go after the gunman who shot down the young female reporter in Little Rock.

I don't know this case, archy. Is it "Jusy" or should that be Judy or Julie or something? Have any private investigators gone after this one, e.g., the couple who worked with Juanita Broaddrick? I think you're right, it should be reopened.

But then, I am on record as suspecting that the death of Vincent Foster was related to the Arkansas Tainted Blood Scheme. My reasoning is based on information, including sworn testimony, unknown to either independent prosecutor. Whether this be so or not, Foster's death, presumably murder, is an open wound and it cries out for justice.

Twit, that was a typo and should have read *Judy*. The feds who tipped me to her murder after I worked on a couple of other news stories regarding murdered/disappeared female journalists knew that nothing could be done through the Justice Department so long as Stonewall Reno was running the show, and after the Memphis FBI office Special Agent in Charge was reassigned to Washington after getting too much information about Al Gore's drugrunning Uncle Whit, I'd have to agree.

Some of the details and news accounts from the period are rehashed in the following Freep thread from two years ago. And I expect the most that'll ever be done will be that in another year, someone else at Freep might pick it up again.

Stoking fires of history: Broaddrick just wanted to get the story 'out there'
