Tainted blood manufacturer courted Castro

10th May, 1983

Mr. C. Pupo Tellez
Head
Economic Office
Embassy of Cuba
388 Main Street
Ottawa

Dear Mr. Pupo:

re:Joint Venture Possibilities in Cuba

With reference to our meeting on April, 12, 1983, I have now had an opportunity of discussing the above-mentioned subject with Connaught's Management.

I am pleased to inform you it has been decided that we would like to investigate Joint Venture possibilities in Cuba.

As I have mentioned during our discussions, the best starting point for both the Cuban Government and ourselves appears to be in the area of human blood.

While it is my intention to visit Havana in the near future, unfortunately my current traveling schedule is such that it is unlikely that this will take place much before July or August.

In the meantime it would be very helpful in preparing for this trip if you would send me answers to the questions stated in the attachment to this letter.

I am looking forward to receiving your reply to the questionnaire and also whether my visit in July or August will be suitable.

Yours sincerely,

Robert E. Binnerts
Director, Technology Transfer

SO glad Connaught was willing to transfer its advanced technology to Cuba. Bet the Cubans loved it too.

It clear we've been misaligning Bubba. Think about it, his continued support of HMA at the prison allowed tainted prison blood to flow to Iran , Iraq, and now the link is pointed to Cuba. He's managed to do what Kennedy, Carter and Bush couldn't do. He achieved high body counts.

a bump!

You're on to something. I remember that early in the AIDS years, Castro absolutely denied that there were any cases in Cuba. (China made the same denial -- perhaps it was "party line.") Word filtered out that Castro quarantined his cases to an island and essentially left them there to die. There were bodies!

Cuba finally admitted it had an AIDS problem when its soldiers came home infected after fighting in the war in Angola. That's in southern Africa, the area of highest infection in the world.

The people who say there is no AIDS problem in Africa, that it's mostly a miscount of malaria and older diseases, or that it's all due to unique African customs and culture, have yet to explain how those Cuban soldiers got infected in Angola.

Well at least they had brains enough to ask the questions.

In 1974 Connaught shipped blood that was stored up for 3 years and considered unfit for human use, back to BC Canada to be used in the hospitals.

Co-incidentally the Red Cross told Krever they banned prison blood in 1971 because of hepatitis, but their Vancouver office claims they didn't get the message so took blood from BC prisons until Dec. of 1973.

Another co-incidence is the Red Cross has destroyed all their records prior to 1980 in their Vancouver BC office.

BC now has over 4 times the infectivety rate of hepatitis C in Canada. A lot of them are elderly and aren't IV drug users.
