Animal rights activists waste no time with Dasburg

PETA has gotten '''Babe's owner'' to drop a love note to Burger King's new CEO, John Dasburg. James Cromwell, nominated for an Oscar for his role as the farmer in "Babe," has written Dasburg asking that he do his part in alleviating "some of the immense and unnecessary suffering endured by the millions of animals Burger King uses for its restaurants."
The letter was mailed to a Minnesota address for Dasburg, the outgoing prez and CEO at Northwest Airlines, although Burger King's HQ is in Florida.
The deal offered by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is simple, Cromwell wrote. "If Burger King pledges to meet even the very minimum animal welfare guidelines McDonald's has now adopted and to keep PETA informed on its progress, the campaign against Burger King, which is just getting off the ground, will be put on hold."

PETA spokesman Joey Penello tells me the campaign already involves the PETA Web site MurderKing.com, but would expand to include protests at Burger King restaurants. Penello, from Norfolk, Va., said McDonald's cleaned up its act to the point that "we put Ronald McDonald on probation, maybe.
That's what freed us up to focus on a new target.'' Penello said Cromwell ''has been a vegetarian for many, many years, then after 'Babe' he went vegan.'' His letter says, ''Making 'Babe' opened my eyes to the intelligence and personality of pigs, and their capacity for love, joy and sadness in such a way that I am now a lifetime advocate for them.'' On Monday, Dasburg's NWA assistant got a BK rep in Florida to call me with the promise of a faxed statement that never came.

Anyone notice how much often FR is getting spamed lately from certain PETA posters? [Not you Valin]

I forget all their names but there is a certain freepergirl, CattyNancy, and others. One PETA activists posted an article yesterday that claimed vegetarianism would reduce the number of abortions. Before I could respond, the article was pulled. The poster's profile showed she [I'm guessing it was a woman] had just registered the same day.

Do we have a PETA problem?

I have been in flame wars with them. And they always go off complaining to Jim Robinson when the conversation turns to abortion.

They see no hypocrisy in advocating kindness to animals, even if it means taking away hunting and eating rights of others, and advocating abortion. One Freepergirl even stated that abortion should be legal until the child is old enough to object.

I told her that was how I felt about pork chops.

You know, I LOVE animals, but I am a meat eater and will continue to be. While I do not condone mistreat towards animals in slaughter houses, PETA is beyond rational activism. Remember, the NYC ad with Rudy Guiliani with the milk mustache? Got cancer? That's pretty sick.

I agree.

And if the left can advocate "death with dignity" for humans, they should not be opposed to "death with dignity" in the meat packing plants.

Do we have a PETA problem?

Have any of y'all seen their headquarters down Norfolk way? It's a really fancy, mod-glass 5 or 6 story office building in the middle of the restored waterfront. It just screams "money". I haven't been able to find out how much it cost their donors, but I get the feeling they don't want us to know. (For contrast, the NRA likes to brag about the good deal they got on a mod-glass office building in Fairfax Co.)

His letter says, ''Making 'Babe' opened my eyes to the intelligence and personality of pigs, and their capacity for love, joy and sadness in such a way that I am now a lifetime advocate for them.''

So, just how many pigs do you keep in your home Mr. Penello?

And while you're at it, do something about that name "PENello". It is extremely offensive to animals to hear the word "pen".

And...How about starting a campaign against "native Americans" to stop naming themselves after animals. How demeaning to have a human humiliate a noble animal like a horse by calling himself Crazy Horse.

This was published in the Sierra Times on 3/18/01.If this PETA infestation starts gaining the support of government they will be able to inflict some real damage. Note that it was a Republican who introduced the bill. What is he thinking?

NV: License Plate Bill Introduced to Support PETA A Nevada Senator has introduced a bill that would create a new fundraising scheme for the anti-hunting organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA). Sen. Raymond Rawson (R-Las Vegas) is sponsoring Senate Bill 54, which would create a special license plate to raise funds for PeTA. If the bill passes, PeTA will receive $25 for every new plate and $20 for every renewed plate. The bill is currently on the Senate Floor. If it passes there, it will move to the State Assembly where it will be assigned to the Transportation Committee.

Of course realizing would require them to think...and that would mean they would have to use their brains. This is an impossibility as their brains are busy with controlling breathing, pumping blood, and controling their bladders.

About 6 years ago I had a run in with some of these "turkeys." I was at a major outdoor political function, with about 10,000 other folks. It was November, and dang cold - so I had on my big winter coat - which happens to be a full length fake fur. I was walking with another lobbyist and 3 State Senators (we were headed for the warming libations) when the jeering from behind started. "Animal Killer" "How many of god's creatures did you kill for that coat?" etc., etc.

After about 20 yards of this BS, I'd had enough and stopped in my tracks and turned on them - in addition to telling them they were stupid if they couldn't tell fake from real, I let out a stream of invective that would make most sailors I know blush.

I then realized I had made a spectacle of myself in front of the Senators and was afraid to turn back to them. When I did, all 3 of them were practically on the ground laughing. It was the one and only time I remember Senators buying the drinks for a lobbyist!!!!! (and 2 of the 3 were dems!)

I took a friend and her young daughters to the ballet. The youngest one was wearing a mink stole--an heirloom from her grandmother. The minks had died circa 1930. At intermission, an idiot passing our seats sneered down at her and said something about harming animals. This was a 7 year old child! I was seething. When he came back, heading for his seat, I looked him in the eye and said, "We had veal for dinner, too!"

Matthew 13

"I will open My mouth in parables;
I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world."

The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, "Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' He said to them, "An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, "Do you want us then to go and gather them up?' But he said, "No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.""'

There’s the abortion bundle, the homosexual bundle, and of course the animal rights bundle. Romans 1:18-32

Not if I have anything to say about it. My son has suddenly discovered chicken tenders - first meat he will eat since toddlerhood, and I'm thrilled. We're there a couple of times a week. (Having a hard-case picky eater, this is a major victory!)

Patty injustice has been going on for centuries without notice, the patty league of europe now has it's own website, www.meat-no-good-4-you.com...(.mad.cow.org) please try to be a bit more sensitive toward the patty element in your community, and remember, dead cattle are people, too..

I'm confused.
Burger King and McDonalds sell hamburgers, their customers go there to buy and eat hamburgers,
I'd be willing to bet most of their customers are not PETA members.
So why should BK or Mickey D's give a rat's a$$ what PETA wants?
Smith and Wesson, who sell guns, gave into non-gun owners and look what happened to them.

time for a burger. I make it a point that every time PETA pulls some idiotic stunt I go eat meat. Hmm..that might explain my expanding waistline!

Just a suggestion but next time you're at BK try the Chicken Club and have them add cheese. Good stuff.

I was boycotting Burger King. Not anymore. A Whopper with cheese for lunch. Lamb on the barbie for dinner.
