These girls are atypical ... not weird like Chelsea was. It's normal for girls (and boys) to have fun and go to College parties, etc.. It was not normal for people like the Clintons to use their own child (Chelsea) as a prop to submit in light of their marital difficulties and other legal, ethical & moral shortcomings. Chelsea has always been a weird one, a seemingly total recluse, almost Gorebotic in her behaviors and the only person I know who can blackmail her way to good grades while not even attending classes (getting special credit for negotiating with Yasser Arafat et. al.). Meanwhile the Bush girls appear to be totally normal young women, thoroughly enjoying their period of growing up in atypical American experience. I don't believe Chelsea was ever given that chance.
They are absolutely beautiful girls. NO doubt about it. My take on this "scandal" is that, as in Clinton's Lewinsky saga, Bush's approval ratings might actually go up when America learns that he is like every other father in America today trying to keep his kids on the straight track. The twins' woes and their down-to-earth problems (in contrast to the little miss perfect bitch Chelsea), could end up highlighting the fact that the Bush family is NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if these kids violated any TEXAS laws. The cops don't seem too interested at any rate. Should they suffer the consequences of thier actions? Of course they should. The girls seem good kids who like to party. They don't have John Law thug up on reporters or have an army of fixers clean up after them. For your information, Austin is FULL of college kids that have fake ID's and go bar hopping every night and rarely does anyone call the cops on them. The only reason these girls are in the news is because they are the President's daughters.
If the Austin cops hauled in every kid that had a fake ID and was drinking in the bars in Austin, there wouldn't be enough police to process them all nor enough jail cells to hold them!

I don't see where you think they ARE being cut any slack. The one appeared in court. Dad didn't try to "fix" it. Obviously the Secret Service has not intervened in EITHER of these situations (contrary to what we know about Chelsea in similar predicaments).
BTW, while we are on the comparison thing, my wife brought up a good point about the Bush girls vs. Chelsea: Chelsea was brought up from day ONE in a public arena. She was always a prop. These girls did not "get into politics" until the mid-1990s, really. It's a small, but important, distinction.

I think there is an issue that no one is talking about because we are all polite (except for that person who posted that picture of Bundy -- that was very rude -- our President is a fine man): Laura Bush continues to have a drinking problem. I would have thought killing her boyfriend while driving drunk in college would have been enough to get her to stop, but apparently not. It has certainly made it difficult for her to mother her girls. And set an appropriate example. May the Lord lead her away from the bottle and into His loving arms.

I agree. I wish that people would stop making excuses for these girls. Would you want your daughters staying up until all hours drinking and smoking? It sets a poor example. I don't agree with everyone who posts here, but certainly the behavior of the Bush girls is not what I expected to see in our First Family! The Nixon girls were lovely. Why can't Jenna go to Washington and help her mom out for a while? I'm sure it would be an educational experience for her. I don't think anybody would deny that our President needs all our prayers right now. I thought I gave her the benefit of the doubt as to her intentions, which I felt were very negative to the Bush family and had an air of DNC spinmeisters hiding in sheeps clothing, but I can't know that for a fact, so I directed my comments to her as she presents herself; a Christian woman.

Sounds like wishful thinking or just absurd judgementalism to me. A problem there regarding the behavior of Jenna Bush, yes, and one that will be dealt with I'm certain, but hysterical comments about 'shambles' and resigning the Presidency are really so far-fetched as to just laughable. One can only but dismiss them as either self-righteous egotism or left-wing bias against a President they dislike and wish to see weakened or somehow harmed. Underage drinking is not desirable, I'll give you that, and maybe it is time for Jenna to 'come home' to be with her parents, but that is a decision for them to make. I trust the judgement of George and Laura Bush and I know a side-door attack on a Republican President when I see it happening, as it is here. Shameful but predictable.

I still think home schooling at the White House is the answer for both of them so First Lady Laura can keep closer tabs on them . . . .thus lessening the chances of more embarrasing moments for the President and the first family. Most major universities offer on-line courses that they could take. . . all in the comforts of the White House thanks to Al Gore and the Internet. A session with Franklin Graham wouldn't hurt either.

I still do sometimes, but not as often as I did. Beer isn't the forbidden fruit now at 22 as it was when I was Jenna's age.

Betty I agree with you here. Although I don't think it's the most terrible sin to have a beer underage she does seem to get in a bit of trouble now and then. Her Mom should sit her down and have a mother/daughter talk with her and find out if maybe there is something bothering her that she hasn't been able to talk about. It's obnoxious and I didn't totally buy the act, but I generally reply to posts by taking the member at their word that are what they claim to be. That has included fake 'conservatives' that claimed to hate Bush and thought Gore was great; i.e. ("I've voted Republican for 40 years but I can't vote for that awful, evil Bush") and other assorted fakes and posers.
