Federal investigators are demanding records of New Jersey Sen. Robert Torricelli's personal and 1996 campaign bank accounts.

Investigators armed with a subpoena called for all of the beleaguered pol's bank records, including his personal transactions, from Bridge View Bank in Englewood Cliffs, the Record of Bergen County reported yesterday.

The probe has spread into the senator's personal financial affairs and charges he received cash and gifts from commodities broker David Chang. The inquiry is part of the Justice Department's Campaign Finance Task Force.

Bridge View Vice President John Schepisi told The Record that probers have also requested banking records of anyone connected to the 1996 campaign.

"Anybody that had dealings with him - Chang was one of them," Schepisi said.

Chang has pleaded guilty to contributing $53,000 in illicit donations to Torricelli's Senate battle in 1996.

The Record - quoting sources familiar with the probe - says the feds are eyeing a number of short-term deposits in the Democrat's Bridge View accounts. They are also investigating any records of overseas financial transactions.

"Checks were coming into the account one day and going out the next in the same amount," a source told the paper.

One of the checks the feds are examining was deposited by Englewood Cliffs Mayor Joseph Parisi Sr. into his own account days before the election. The Democratic stalwart is the bank's chairman.

"We're from the government, so you can trust us to investigate ourselves. Move along now. Nothing to see here."

You can tell Torch is going down because not a single Democrat is referring to this investigation as a political witch hunt. There are all silent lest they become the next target. Not even Hillary has said a word in support of Torch.

Not even Hillary has said a word in support of Torch.

Said in an Aussie accent:
The Wildebeest herd, sensing the stealthy approach of a pride of hungry lions, quietly leaves its wounded member behind to meet its certain fate alone.

You know it!!!! I'm sure that's his planned strategy. Torricelli and the Clintooons have one thing in common. They are both incredibly correct.
