It was Christianity that brought a fundamentally difference view of humanity.
A human being no longer belonged to his master but to God.
Our society is gradually becoming a post-Christian society in which there is a return to the pre-Christian vision of man.
The process is underway but has not yet fully completed itself.
Hence, we object not only to the murder of Julie, Melissa, An, Eefje and Loubna,
but also to the way in which they were raped and abused as objects of for the satisfaction of sexual lust.

But we do not object to using people as objects when they consent to it.
And we do not object to aborting unborn human beings.

If this process continues, the day may well come
when we consider the crimes committed on the Belgian children as only
infringements of their parents’ property rights!

Some Post-Christian Realities

By Alexandra Cohen

Alexandra Cohen, a member of the Belgian Parliament, is the mother of five young children and a former lecturer (in Linguistics) at the universities of Ghent and Antwerp.

In march of this year, yet another body of a cruelly murdered child was found in Belgium. It was the corpse of nine-year old Loubna, who was abducted, sexually abused, tortured, and murdered five years ago. Loubna is victim number five, after Julie, Melissa, An and Eefje. About a dozen other children (mostly girls but also a few boys) are still missing. Some of them disappeared as long as twenty years ago.

A colleague of mine is a member of the Parliamentary Commission set up to investigate what went wrong in the judicial inquiry into the child-abuse cases. He saws that Belgian authorities expect to find more corpses in the near future. Thus, by the time you read this, Belgium will possibly have attended yet another funeral for a child who was sadistically abused and murdered.

Let me introduce myself: I am a politician, a member of the Belgian Parliament, and a mother of five, three girls and two boys. My eldest child is thirteen, my youngest five. When Loubna was found and the details of her death emerged, it made me physically ill. Many parents in Belgium feel sick these days and, unfortunately, it seems that our predicament has not yet ended.

The sewers of Belgium started opening last August when police officers succeeded in rescuing Sabine and Laetitia, two young girls of twelve and fourteen, who had been kidnapped during the preceding months. The girls were liberated from a dungeon where they had been kept as living sexual toys for perverts. Soon after the discovery of Sabine and Laetitia, they found the bodies of Julie and Melissa, two eight-year old girls who had been abducted in June 1995. They had been locked up, then violently raped and tortured for months before they were finally starved to death (evidently in February, 1996).

In September 1996, a month after the gruesome discovery of Julie and Melissa, the bodies of An and Eefje were found. These young women, seventeen and nineteen years old, had also been abducted in August of the previous year. The police never disclosed the terrible things that happened to them nor in what circumstances they died. Possibly the authorities think that Belgians will not be able to stomach the horror?

The only thing we know is that An and Eefje had been kidnapped, abused and finally murdered by the same gang that abducted Julie, Melissa, Sabine and Laetitia.

This gang was led by a man called Marc Dutroux, who had a record of sexual abuse.

He had been convicted and sentenced (in April 1989) to a 13-year prison term for the rape of five children and the sexual torture of an elderly woman. In view of his “good conduct” in jail (no potential victims victims ), his term was shortened. This was compounded by an amnesty granted by the King of Belgium, which led to his being released in April 1992. Americans may find it hard to believe what happened next – but then you do not live in a welfare state.

What happened was that after leaving prison, Marc Dutroux applied for and received official invalid status, which entitled him to generous welfare benefits. Dutroux claimed that this imprisonment had led to psychological damage, which meant that he, as former electrician, would never be able to work for a living again. As a consequence, together with Michelle Martin, his wife and accomplice (in kidnapping children and locking them up, though not in sexually abusing them), he received a monthly check of 80,000 Belgian francs ($2,700!) from the Belgian welfare system.

Part of this money was used by Dutroux to build cells in some of the cellars of the eight (!) houses he owned. He needed the cells to imprison girls.

This was common knowledge to some of his friends, one of whom duly informed the police authorities in October, 1993. However, the police did not react. After the first girls had been abducted, it took more than one full year before the police started to consider Marc Dutroux as a serious suspect. He was arrested rather coincidentally because a nun, whose hobby it was to learn license plates by heart, remembered having seen his car near the place where Laetitia had been abducted. As a result, police were able to release Sabine (kidnapped on May 28, 1996) and Laetitia (kidnapped on August 9) alive from Dutroux’s dungeons last August 15th.

Shortly after the arrest of Dutroux and his wife, a Brussels businessman, Michel Nihoul, was arrested. It is not clear whether Dutroux kidnapped the children on the order of Nihoul or whether Nihoul was just a “customer” who rented or bought girls from Dutroux. Nihoul was involved in organising sex parties for all kinds of perverts in high places, such as the army, the police the judiciary, and political and media circles.

Rumours about the sex parties, the so-called “Pink Ballets” (les Ballets Roses), have been rampant in Belgium for about two decades. The names of prominent politicians and even the present Belgian King, Albert (who succeeded his brother in 1993 and used to have a reputation for being a playboy), had been mentioned in this connection, but nobody had been able to prove anything. Rumours about the “Pink Ballets” persisted, but many journalists denounced them as being the Belgian political equivalent of the Loch Ness monster. Though some claim to have seen its shadow, serious people do not believe it exists.

Victim number five, Loubna, was kidnapped by a car mechanic, Patrick Derochette, on a sunny afternoon in August, 1992, when the nine-year old girl was on her way to a grocery shop and walked past Derochette’s garage, one street away from where she lived. Like Dutroux, Derochette also had a criminal record for sexual perversity regarding children. He had previously raped four boys and had spent seven weeks (yes, not even a full two months!) in prison for these crimes because doctors claimed he was some kind of lunatic who could not help his behavior.

He raped Loubna but claims that her death was an accident because she fell and hit her head against an iron trunk. He then hid her body in the trunk and kept it in the basement of his garage for five years. One witness, however, a school friend of Loubna, claims that she saw the girl two weeks after her disappearance in Derochette’s car. The police never took this witness seriously and did not bother Derochette against until the whole inquiry into Loubna’s disappearance was done over again early this year. Her body was found in Derochette’s trunk on March 5.

If the witness is right, Loubna was probably also used a child prostitute for some time. The police have discovery that Derochette knew Michel Nihoul. The both visited the same sex bars and Nihoul got his petrol at Derochette’s garage.

The Belgian police are currently also investigating satanic sects. It is possible that Nihoul was involved in satanic ceremonies, and it is certain that some of the members of the Dutroux group had “business contacts” with satanic groups. It is not clear whether the participants in satanic orgies took their satanism as a serious religion or whether some of the sex parties were just dressed up as satanic rituals in order to give the perverts an added kick.

The Belgian authorities started an investigation into satanic sects after the police found a letter form a satanic high priest to Bernard Weinstein, one of Dutroux’s two accomplices in the kidnapping of children. (Mrs. Dutroux being the other.) The letter asked for a “delivery” in order to be able to perform the rituals of Walpurgis Night. The delivery is believed to refer to young children needed as sacrifices in a black mass.

There are many rumours concerning the satanic sects. Some claim that female sect members were deliberately impregnated so that their newly born children could be killed on satanic altars. To me as a mother, this sounds so fantastically horrible that I pray it isn’t true. If it is true, however, I doubt whether the Belgians would be very much surprised after the other truths they have been forced to face. (Perhaps that Loch Ness monster really exists!)

For instance, some of the police officers questioned by the Parliamentary Commission confirmed that there have indeed been “Pink Ballets.” Now, by taking the rumours about the sex orgies seriously, the authorities are on the brink of a breakthrough I the investigation concerning the so-called “Crazy Brabant Killers,” a murderous gang that killed 29 people in Brabant, the province surrounding the Belgian capital of Brussels, in the early and mid-1980s.

The Crazy Brabant Killers got their name because, at the time, nobody had a clue as to what their motives could be. The gang specialised in robbing supermarkets in broad daylight. The booty was always very poor, but that did not seem to bother them. The reason why the committed their crimes, apparently, was the thrill they got from slaughtering every supermarket shopper in sight. The shot everyone, children included, sometimes killing up to eight innocent shoppers or passers-by in one go. It started with the mu9rder of twelve people at various occasions in late 1982 and early 1983. Then the wave of terror subsided, only to be followed by a new wave in the Fall of 1985, resulting in the death of 17 victims. Then it stopped.

The investigation into the Crazy Brabant Killers got nowhere. Strange things happened. Officers who were making progress in the case were taken off it, and substantial evidence disappeared from the files never to be found again.

Today, almost twelve years later, the key to the mystery seems to have been found. A scrutiny of the gang’s victims could be linked to the “Pink Ballets.” The apparently random killings of the Crazy Brabant Killers had been a cover-up for eliminating dangerous witnesses of sex parties (probably with minors-orgies among consenting adults are not illegal under Belgian law)(.

This discovery has prompted the authorities to investigate the whole dossier again, but whether this will lead anywhere is doubtful, because many sensitive documents have been lost.

“There used to be a photo in the judicial files of an army general, stark naked, during one of the Pink Ballets,” one investigator told the parliamentary committee last February. “I know because I have seen the picture. But now it is gone. We cannot find it anywhere.”

Tapes, too, and typed-out manuscripts of police interviews have gone missing, as well as a list of people who had allegedly attended sessions of the Pink Ballets.

Now that the sewers have opened and the stench is there for all to smell, it is no wonder that ordinary Belgians have lost confidence in their judicial and political authorities. It is generally assumed that the incompetence of the authorities to solve the mystery of the Crazy Brabant Killers, the Pink Ballets, the satanic orgies-and the reason why it took years to arrest Dutroux, Nihoul and Derochette-has to do with the fact that these criminals were protected by very high circles.

On October 20 last year, over 250,000 of Belgium’s ten million inhabitants took to the streets of Brussels for a silent march, carrying white flowers and white balloons, and demanding that justice be done, morality restored, and children protected. The “White March” was one of the most impressive demonstrations that Belgium, and possibly the whole of Europe, had ever seen. Not one slogan was shouted, but the silence of the demonstrators resounded louder and more clearly than a million worlds and cries.

Some people did, however, carry banners in the White March and there were some incidents at the beginning. Banners of political parties were objected to and had to be put away. But also banners demanding for all children, including the unborn, had to be put away. Not all the protesters demanding protection for Belgium’s children were willing to demand protection for unborn children as well-some even took it as an insult to dare to suggest such a thing.

In November, shortly after the White March, it was revealed that the second-highest politician in the country, Vice Premier Elio Di Rupo, is a promiscuous homosexual with a preference for adolescent boys. Di Rupo, a prominent leader of the Belgian Socialist Party, did not deny that his sex life consists of a series of one-night stands with young men, often prostitutes that he or his chauffeur pick up from the streets. But he was able to shift the debate to the question of whether he had had sex with boys of under or over sixteen years (the former being illegal and the latter legal under Belgian law). No one could prove the former and the (aptly titled?) Vice Premier got away with it when his Socialist Party threatened to bring down the government if Di Rupo were forced to resign-the Christian Democrats of Premier Jean-Luc Dehaene gave in. More, a few weeks later the government declared its intention to lower the age of sexual consent from 16 to 14. And the people, who had given such a powerful [if not actually internally consistent] cry for moral rectitude during the White March, did not really seem to care!

I mentioned above that I was physically sick on the evening that poor Loubna’s body was found and the details emerged of how she had died and lain dead for years only two streets away from her home in a building that her agonised parents passed nearly every day. Earlier that same day, I had given a press conference to condemn at 16-week abortion (illegal in Belgium, where abortion is only permitted up to 12 weeks). It has been subsidised by the Belgian welfare authorities because the mother claimed that having a child would make it difficult for her to complete an occupational training course. The welfare authorities considered this to be a good reason for an abortion –never mind that it was illegal-and, as the woman could not pay for it herself, they decided to pay for it with taxpayers’ money.

As a Belgian taxpayer, I felt cheated. We pay our taxes to the welfare state to enable it to defend our children, which it does not do. Instead it uses the money to kill other children. But, again, the public did not seem to bother. Although an unborn child was killed and although the abortion was illegal under Belgian law, the press and the authorities defended the decision to “help” the woman and most people seemed to accept it.

The contrast between the outcry over the deaths of the pedophiles’ victims and the acceptance of abortion, even beyond the limits of the law, calls for some reflection. Julie, Melissa, An, Eefje, Loubna and the other children whose bodies are still missing died because they had fallen into the hands of evil men who did not respect them as unique human beings, but regarded them merely as objects for the satisfaction of their perverted sexual lust (perverted, because sexual lust for children is abnormal).

In an abortion, the child is not the object needed to satisfy (normal) sexual desire, however, lustful, but it is the object that can result from the satisfaction of it. And though one may argue that murdering a living child in order to fulfill a perverted sexual lust is definitely worse than killing the unborn child resulting from normal heterosexual intercourse, it remains true that the unborn child is also killed and discarded as if it were merely an object.

Indeed, the unborn child is regarding as no more than an unwanted side-effect of intercourse, the intercourse being seen as an end in itself-even to the extent that it stands above the life of the child resulting from it. In this sense, such sexual acts are also perverted in that the act and the pleasure it provides are elevated to something noble and worth pursuing, while the child is reduced to a discardable nothing.

The fact that ordinary people no longer seem to be appalled by abortion-and their ready acceptance of the concept of the “unwanted child”-illustrates a terrible truth: the notion that there can be a discardable side effect of intercourse that is nothing more than a “problem” to the woman has become embedded in the collective subconscious of our society.

It is only a small step to the idea the sexual act is infinitely more valuable than the life of the child, or any respect for the child, or for life itself. This idea underlies the statements of a vociferous group in our society, including not only militant feminists but also “educators” who propagate such thinking among our children.

There is also a second aspect which calls for some reflection. The children in Belgium were murdered by others than their parents and against the will of these parents. But unwanted unborn children are killed at the demand of their own parents. When we object to the latter, we are confronted with the question of what entitles us to do so. [Just as ancient Greek infanticide], In ancient Rome abortion was legal if the father (the paterfamilias) agreed to it. However, he was also entitled to kill the members of his household, such as his slaves and even his children. People were not regarded as unique human beings, but as part of the patrimony of the paterfamilias. They were objects and as such could be discarded.

It was Christianity that brought a fundamentally difference view of humanity. A human being no longer belonged to his master but to God. Our society is gradually becoming a post-Christian society in which there is a return to the pre-Christian vision of man. The process is underway but has not yet fully completed itself. Hence, we object not only to the murder of Julie, Melissa, An, Eefje and Loubna, but also to the way in which they were raped and abused as objects of for the satisfaction of sexual lust. But we do not object to using people as objects when they consent to it. And we do not object to aborting unborn human beings. If this process continues, the day may well come when we consider the crimes committed on the Belgian children as only infringements of their parents’ property rights!

The idea that children are property of the parents also underlies the “right to have children” which is used to justify in vitro fertilization and surrogate motherhood. As in the case of abortion, the argument is twisted. If it is true that unwanted childlessness is a terrible affliction, it is true precisely because of the “outdated” paradigm of the child as a unique human being-the old-fashioned belief that it is a child which makes a couple’s love tangible and gives meaning to their unique “two in one flesh” relationship. Whereas the now-available reproductive technology reduces the child to a commodity which can be ordered, bought, “farmed” as it were, to fulfill the demand of the customers and owners, its parents.

I mentioned the rumour that Belgian women may have been impregnated only for the purpose of producing children to be killed as ritual sacrifices during black masses. I said that I pray this is not true-it seems to horrible-but also that I could no longer be surprised if it were true. Not only because in the past months Belgians have had to face all kinds of horrible truths which were unthinkable only a year ago, but also because such things would be totally consistent with the post-Christian horrors which are increasingly being accepted in our society.

On April 23 [1998] the government was buffeted by another unwelcome development when the convicted pedophile and alleged child murderer Marc Dutroux briefly escaped from his police escort. Although he was recaptured within four hours, the incident was greeted by a mixture of anger and incredulity throughout the country and forced the resignations of Justice Minister Stefaan De Clerk, Interior Minister Johan Vande Lanotte, and the head of the national police force (gendarmerie), Willy Deridder. Lanotte's successor, Louis Tobback, resigned in September after a Nigerian woman collapsed and died when Belgian police tried to deport her forcibly.

A 17-month parliamentary investigation concluded in February that a combination of incompetence, professional jealousy, and structural weaknesses in the judicial and police systems--rather than any protection from senior politicians or magistrates--had enabled Dutroux and his accomplice, Michel Nihoul, to escape detection for so long. Dutroux faced trial for the abduction of six young girls and the murder of four of them as well as of a former accomplice. The critical report forced the government to reorganize the country's three different police forces--gendarmerie, judicial police, and communal police--and to introduce changes to the judiciary with the creation of a federal prosecutor's office.

Child rights lawyer Michele Hirsch told Reuters the Belgian case was symptomatic of a global sickness.

"Whether you talk about paedophilia, prostitution, pornography or the traffic in human organs, people are increasingly being treated as a primary resource," she said. "It is a global problem."

Ah yes. Only 5 posts until a knuckledragger showed up...

Interesting take, DAnconia55.

To my way of thinking, is it not our keeping our heads "in the clouds" that is the problem?

To: Any information about Olivier Dupuis and the Radical Party?

Brussels, 1 March 2000

Dear Colleague,

Following the interest (and also the astonishment and genuine concern) expressed by numerous colleagues after the letter which I sent to all deputies during the last plenary session in Strasbourg, I have decided to provide further information about a case that goes well beyond the persons now facing charges, in particular Marc Dutroux and Michel Nihoul (the latter, incidentally, recently released …). The information in question regards two gendarmerie officers who were posted in 1996 to the Neufchâteau team charged with co-ordinating the whole Nihoul-Dutroux affair. A few months after the beginning of the enquiry that led them to question a certain number of witnesses (witnesses X), the work of the two officers, considered up to then as first-rate detectives, was called into question by the gendarmerie authorities, supported - at least tacitly - by the judiciary. As a result they were removed from the enquiry, and were subjected to a press campaign of unprecedented virulence.

Over two years after these events, the state prosecutors have ordered the charges and criminal proceedings against the officers to be dismissed. De Baets and Bille have also won two cases against the press, and other libel claims are about to come to court. Finally, other enquiries are in course regarding their claim for damages against the Gendarmerie and their denouncements of several members of the force.

I invite you to read the letter the follows, certain that the officers themselves are much better qualified to explain what they have been through, and continue to go through, in the hope that you will give it your full attention.

Yours faithfully,
Olivier Dupuis

Brussels, 1 March 2000

Open letter to members of the European Parliament

Dear Sir/Madam,

In August 1996, following the tragic events that had taken place in our country, and while we were part of the financial department of the BSR (Surveillance and Detection Squad) of the Brussels Gendarmerie, our assistance was requested by the Neufchâteau investigating magistrates.

A few days after we were assigned to this enquiry, a victim of sexual abuse offered to testify, and we were asked by the state prosecutors to question her. Between 20 September 1996 and 1 March 1997 we thus examined the witness known as "X1" on seventeen occasions.

This task was carried out in a professional manner, and all the interviews were recorded on video. A therapist was on hand to assist the victim if the need arose. A number of state prosecutors were present at some of the interviews. No observation was ever made by the state prosecutors.

Our story is therefore "simply" that of two policemen who carried out their duties in a correct, professional manner and were subsequently removed first from the Neufchâteau section and then from the Brussels BSR.

One of us has 29 years of loyal service to the Gendarmerie, the other 28 years. During our careers we have received numerous commendations from our superiors, and above all from state prosecutors.

The statements made by witness X1 allowed us to reopen the files on various serious crimes, including the murder on 13 February 1984 of Christine Van Hees, who was found dead in atrocious circumstances in an abandoned mushroom farm in Auderghem (Brussels).

In June 1997 several colleagues led the state prosecutors astray. An enquiry was opened on 26 August 1997 on the basis of a false statement drawn up by the officer in charge of the Neufchâteau section.

The statement reached the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Department. It was kept hidden from the King's Prosecutor, Bourlet, who would have been able to say that the charges formulated were inaccurate.

Although the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Department had the solution at hand, a pre-trial investigation was commenced on 26 September 1997. From 8 October 1997 the investigating magistrate was in possession of all the elements necessary to conclude the case. This did not happen.

The pre-trial investigation dragged on until 7 June 1999. The file contains thousands of pages. It is a highly unusual enquiry. The investigating magistrate carried out enquiries into events that took place many years before … our birth. His enquiry learned, for example, that in 1947 the father of Patriek De Baets committed a breech of article 42 of the AR of 1 February 1934 (the Highway Code) and was fined 100 BEF. The investigating magistrate forced Patriek De Baets to provide a copy (in colour) of the medals obtained by his father at the end of the war, as well as a copy of his resistance papers. The former wife of Patriek De Baets was questioned about the reasons for their divorce in …1980.

Gendarmerie officers also used a helicopter to film a road and check on the distance between two buildings …! It is a great pity that these instruments were not used to trace Julie and Melissa, and the other young children who disappeared!

There are dozens of anecdotes about this enquiry, which was finally dismissed for lack of evidence on Thursday 20 January 2000. The State Prosecutor's Department, which had written requests to dismiss the case as early as 26 October 1999, forced us all the same to report four times (on 7 December, 16 December, 13 January and 20 January), simply to reach the conclusion that there were no charges against us!

The desired result had, however, been achieved: to remove us from the enquiries into the related Neufchâteau files in order to put a halt to the investigations in progress. The victims have been mocked and discredited. Honest detectives have been attacked and dragged through the mire by the press.

An internal enquiry has been in course within the Gendarmerie for 31 months (whatever happened to the promise to cut out unnecessary delays?). This enquiry is supposedly about to be brought to conclusion, and without finding any professional misdemeanour.

A first enquiry had been opened in June 1997, and in October/November 1998 the officer in charge of the affair drew up around 21 reports in which he noted that at least twenty gendarmes, including two officers, could be liable to charges. At this point the enquiry stopped, and a few months later it resumed with regard to the cases of De Baets and Bille alone.

For the others it has been covered up!

Despite this, the Gendarmerie hopes one day to find some misdemeanour. Due to this scandalous affair we have lost our jobs with the Brussels BSR, and it seems more and more certain that we will never be reinstated.

We have become dangerous because we dared to denounce serious dysfunctions. It is a terrible thing to be unfairly removed from one's job simply for performing it correctly!

We have been the victims of plots hatched with the complicity of a number of magistrates and of certain media organs. We have proof of this.

The Investigating Magistrate Langlois ordered a re-examination. This re-examination is completely false. There are sometimes even two versions. Of this, too, we have proof, which we have made available to the state prosecutors.

The state prosecutors and the upper echelons of the Gendarmerie are both perfectly aware of the falsification committed in the re-examination reports and in certain statements. We hope that these authorities will investigate the culprits with the same energy they have shown towards us.

We thank you in advance for your attention, and remain at your complete disposal for any further information you may require.

Yours faithfully,

Aimé Bille

There's too much of a smoke screen here. I haved no doubt that the government is involved in this.

There was a similar thing, which broke concering "clubs" in Washington DC frequented by politicians and foreign dignitaries. There is evil ruling us too.

Parents, do you know where your children are?

Strasbourg, 14 February 2000

Dear Colleague,

More than three years after the arrest of M. Dutroux, a growing number of Belgian citizens are beginning to doubt the real will of the authorities to get to the bottom of what has become known as the Dutroux-Nihoul Affair, although it actually involves a very long series of abductions, acts of torture and rape, and child killings. These doubts emerge very clearly in a survey published last week (Le Monde, 1 February 2000) which shows that 72 % of Belgian citizens have no faith in the judicial system in their country.

Moreover, there are elements that suggest that we cannot exclude the possibility of links between this affair and various other criminal cases which have characterised the Belgian scene over the last twenty years, and on which the Belgian police have not been able to cast any light.

I strongly believe that this affair, due to the extreme gravity of the crimes involved, its many implications, its duration and the context of impunity that surrounds it, deserves our full attention.

To this end, I have decided to circulate information on the issue: although only partial, I believe it can help to collocate the affair within a wider context, thus making the various hitches that have gradually led to a genuine cover-up more comprehensible.

I remain at your disposal for any further information, and invite you to let me know whether you would give your support to an initiative that the European Parliament could take with respect to this affair, and, more generally, with respect to the issue of the abduction and murder of children within the European Union.

Yours sincerely,
Olivier Dupuis

THE KING'S BACKACHE

In Belgium secrets are always open as soon as they are revealed.

Alternative Libértaire, issue 225, February 2000

Three months ago a young biographer created a scandal by making allusions to the fact that Albert II has an illegitimate son. The next day, many of the papers published a complete dossier on Delphine Boël, an artist in London. Others announced that they would not publish what they knew. All of them, however, had clearly known for a long time. Two months later, in his Christmas message, Albert II talked of The crisis which our marriage passed through over thirty years ago, a period which we have recently been reminded of. The clearest acknowledgement possible of Delphine. Those who have still not understood never will.

The fact that Prince Laurent is not Albert's son is not officially acknowledged. Laurent himself, however, does not make much effort to hide the fact: I know I have been treated as a bastard. But despite this, I wasn't there the day I was conceived! So I can't say - and I never have said - that I am not the King's son [ La Dernière Heure, 30/10/98]. We await Albert's next Christmas message, if there is one.

Since Belgium can cope with everything, and since we are dealing with open secrets, why don't we go back to the most interesting one: the relation between the Dutroux affair and the Royal Palace? This obliges us to go beyond the picture - modernised though it may be - of the Royal Family.

Delphine was the fruit of a marital crisis that belongs to the "private life" of Albert and Paola. This is the toned-down version of the story. In actual fact the crisis has lasted over thirty years, and its consequences go far beyond the private sphere. It is common knowledge - although no-one says so openly - that Albert has always appreciated the company of prostitutes, both in Ostend over thirty years ago (when he created a scandal at the La Renommée Hotel) and recently in Cannes, where a call-girl, to whom he had given Cartier jewels, robbed him of his cheque-book after his hurried return to Brussels following Dutroux's escape [Le Soir 29/5/98; La Libre Belgique 30/5/98; La Dernière Heure 6/6/98].

Recourse to prostitutes, as we know, is a royal tradition. Leopold II, the nephew of Queen Victoria, was the client of an English prostitution ring specialising in very young girls. Later he met Caroline, a 16-year-old prostitute, whom he married under the name Baroness Vaughan [Baroness Vaughan, Presque Reine, Le Cri, 1998; A. Hochschild, King Leopold's Ghost, p. 221-224.].

On the subject of Leopold III, the Chief of German Security in Belgium during the war, Canaris, stated during questioning that he had served the King by undertaking certain missions of a private character to Knokke and Berchtersgaden; these missions were what we now call an "escort service", that is procuring prostitutes [E. Raskin, Princesse Lilian, éditions Luc Pire, 1999, p. 109; Le Peuple e Le Monde du Travail 25/4/49].

It is not the private aspect of this sort of conduct that should attract our attention, but its social and political repercussions. The statute of the King has two consequences. In order to conserve his moral authority, these misdoings must be kept hidden, which leads to the development of a double language and a double face; moreover - and this is much more serious - the democratic institutions are regularly diverted to cover up royal misdoings and to enforce the law of silence. Thus, for example, in 1949 King Leopold's secretary informed the Minister of Justice of the King's desire to prevent the divulgation of those parts of the Canaris file regarding the private life of the King and the Royal Family during the Occupation [Archives Générales du Royaume, Mémoires inédites of Jacques Pirenne, p. 535]. Fifty years later - despite the abdication of Leopold III - it is still not possible to consult these sections, while the files of the period have never been subject to such censure [E. Raskin, Princesse Lilian, éditions Luc Pire, 1999, p. 108].

The inviolability of the Sovereign, guaranteed by the Constitution, allows him to satisfy his most perverse desires. This leads to the probable expansion of both his debauchery and the cover-up provided by the institutions.

What relation does all this have with the Dutroux-Nihoul case (1)?

Buried in the sea of data on this case, two short articles have pointed to the link between the current events and the old Ballets roses affair (2). The police have apparently discovered that many of the names that feature in the old address-books of the wife of Dr. Pinon - thanks to whom the Ballets roses scandal exploded - are also present in the address-books of Michel Nihoul. This is why the police apparently reopened the Ballets roses file [Dimanche Matin, 2/2/97]. Another anonymous article in Le Soir claims that Nihoul's company supplied sea-food products to various bars, including Le Dolo (3), but also a golf club in Wavre (...) [Le Soir, 4/4/97]. The very golf club that was one of the venues of the Ballets roses orgies.

Once again what matters in this affair is not private conduct, but the social and political role of the figures. These orgies, it should be remembered, were said to have been attended by leading exponents of the world of politics, business, the military, and the judicial system, like VDB (4), Prince Albert, General Beaurir, Blaton and Guy Mathot (5) [J. Mottard, R. Haquin, Les Tueries du Brabant, éditions Complexe, 1990, p. 207; PV 15.538-348/81].

We should also remember the fire at the Pour newspaper in 1981, as it was about to publish an interview with a woman who had participated in the orgies and had named the well-known figures. After the fire, Jean-Claude Garot, the chief-editor of Pour, gave the police a recording of the interview which - after passing through the hands of Superintendent Marnette (6) - turned out to be impossible to decipher. Shortly after the fire, Garot found a way to settle in the USA and set up a new business. Dr. Pinon, who had revealed that his wife took part in these orgies, was persecuted (with tax inspections, INAMI inspections, death threats, etc.). His wife, who boasted of being the best c*ck-s*ck*r in North Brabant, had a successful career as the secretary of Jean Gol (7), then of De Donnea (8). As for the file, it has collected dust in the archives of the Courts.

What was shocking in these files was not the orgies between consenting adults - including princes - but the testimonies stating that minors took part and lost their lives in obscure circumstances. As Claude Semal has pointed out: It is possible to fight crime without false shame [Claude Semal, La triple alliance du crime, du secret et du silence, Alternative Libertaire 224, January 2000)].

However, a lack of zeal in the investigations has meant that these facts have not been cleared up. The most astonishing thing, to tell the truth, is not the contents of the Ballets roses file, but the fact that a police file existed. For anyone who examines the open secrets of the last thirty years discovers many similar affairs that have not led to criminal proceedings. Like the encounter that took place in around 1980, in the presence of Albert, when the young lover of a certain Bebelle died during what he thought was an erotic game. Suicide, or erotic hanging, people whispered the next day at the Sablon.

These perverse circles at the beginning of the 1980s were exactly those in which Nihoul, soon to call himself the Prince of the Night, was a dominant figure. In his "autobiography" Nihoul talks about orgies populated not only by businessmen and women, but also by politicians, lawyers, magistrates and even their wives, as well as by certain persons of both sexes belonging to the nobility [M. Nihoul, Rumeurs et vérités, Dark and Light publication, 1998, p. 46]. Numerous sources confirm that this Prince crossed paths with the other Prince on numerous occasions. This is the scandal that had to be covered up at all costs.

Patrick Moriau (9) was the first to hit the nail on the head - without knowing very much about it - when he spoke of the Nihoul's powerful protection within the entourage of the Royal Palace. [P. Moriau, Journal d'un commissaire, éditions Luc Pire, p. 311]. The hate campaign and police surveillance to which he was subjected convinced him that he was right.

In a recent book [J. Noterman, La république du roi, 1999, p. 215], we read that Witnesses X, in any case X1, allegedly recognised Albert among their torturers. This is incorrect as far as the testimony of X1 is concerned. But XI does name a number of Albert's close friends, recently raised to the peerage, or members of the Privy Council and guests at the wedding of Philippe and Mathilde. While the testimony of X3 does implicate the royal family and undoubtedly constitutes the main cause of the cover-up of the Neufchâteau enquiries [see: Jacques Bertin, Qui est l'inconnu de l'affaire Dutroux?, Politis 577 of 2/12/99 and A. Bulté, D. De Coninck, MJ Van Heeswyck, Les dossiers X, Ce que la Belgique ne devait pas savoir sur l'affaire Dutroux, EPO, 1999].

Such is the reason of State that also explains the removal of Connerotte (10), the statement of the public prosecutor Bourlet (11) (“I will get to the bottom of it, if they let me”), his being placed under surveillance, the anomalies in the enquiry about Julie and Melissa, the disappearance of witnesses, the removal of De Baets' team (12), and the release of Nihoul and his bragging. The fact that the Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, Jean-Marie Piret, is the former head of the King's staff may be related to the acceleration of the cover-up of the Dutroux affair.

At the same time as the enquiry into the abduction of children has come to a standstill, there are signs that the King is about to abdicate. The sudden engagement and marriage of Philippe and Mathilde (who has come from nowhere). The spectacular back trouble of Albert II (nervous backache, he has confided to his closest friends). The royal couple have also bought a comfortable property in the South of France.

Everything points to the fact that the King is about to go, neither seen nor recognised. Should he be allowed to do so? By virtue of the Constitution, the King is irresponsible. He is safe from any criminal action; he enjoys complete immunity; he is not liable to any form of repression or charges for crimes. But this principle of the irresponsibility and inviolability of the King goes hand in hand with ministerial responsibility. If the King has committed a deed judged to be serious enough for a minister not to agree to cover for him, the only sanction would be abdication [J. Noterman, La république du roi, p. 222].

Consequently, if it transpired that Albert's misconduct has served to protect Nihoul, VBD, Mathot and others, the government will have to stop covering up such misdoings (as the all-powerful CVP-PSC has done for decades). A parliamentary Committee of Enquiry will also have to cast light on this network of protection and the King will eventually have to abdicate, without leaving behind those who have organised the system of cover-ups. The country will not fall apart because of this. On the contrary, the Belgian state and the people demand that the enquiry into the abduction and murder of children be completed. The impudence of an 18-year-old boy has fortunately shown us that we were not condemned to live under the law of silence.

Thésée

Notes

(1) Jean-Michel NIHOUL, a Brussels crook, present from the 1980s in certain business and political circles. Sentenced on various occasions for financial embezzlement. He was recognised by numerous witnesses at the site of the abduction of Laetitia Delhez in the company of Marc Dutroux 24 hours before the crime. According to many witnesses he was one of the main organisers of the abduction, rape, torture and murder of children. Indicted in the context of the case of the child kidnappings, he was released on probation at the beginning of this year.

(2) "BALLETS ROSES", the name given to a scandal in the 1980s involving orgies attended by numerous well-known figures.

(3) LE DOLO, a café in Brussels, named on various occasions as a meeting place for persons linked to the disappearance and traffic of children.

(4) Paul VAN DEN BOEYNANTS, alias VDB, Christian Social Party, former Minister and Prime Minister.

(5) Guy MATHOT, Belgian politician, Socialist, former Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

(6) Georges MARNETTE, Superintendent of the Brussels Investigative Police, at the centre of delicate enquiries in Belgium (murders in North Brabant, Ballets Roses, the Raemakeers affair [abduction, traffic, and rape of children], the Dutroux affair, the Neufchâteau enquiries [the so-called witnesses X]).

(7) Jean GOL, Liberal, Minister of State, former Minister of Justice, former President of the (Francophone) Belgian Liberal Reform Party. Former member of the European Parliament. Died in 1995.

(8) François Xavier DE DONNEA, Belgian Liberal, former Defence Minister, currently Mayor of Brussels.

(9) Patrick MORIAU, Belgian politician, Socialist, member of the committee of enquiry chaired by the current Minister of Justice Marc Verwilghen, "into the manner in which the enquiry into the Dutroux-Nihoul affair has been conducted from a police and judicial point of view".

(10) Jean-Marc CONNEROTTE, investigating magistrate in Neufchâteau, charged with the enquiry into the kidnapping and death of Julie and Melissa. He also opened the file on the so-called witnesses X. In the past he dealt with enquiries such as those on the "stolen bonds" and the murders in North Brabant. He was removed from the Dutroux case because he had accepted a gift (a ballpoint pen) on the occasion of a dinner organised by some of the victims' parents.

(11) Michel BOURLET, King's Prosecutor in Neufchâteau at the time of the arrest of Marc Dutroux.

(12) Frédérick DE BAETS, Chief of the Brussels Gendarmerie charged with following the enquiries relating to the Dutroux affair and witnesses X in Neufchâteau. Accused of having falsified the file on witness X1, De Baets and his team were removed from the enquiry in 1997. In January of this year they were acquitted of all the charges made against them.

I remember those cases of murder, it seems things haven't changed much, of course if politicians are involved, it will never change........ the statement of global dehumanization is right on.

As I mentioned the other day, Great Dane, it's tough to shock a Bloodhound.

Well my friend, you just managed to do so, I wasn't aware that the criminals got away so cheap........ I am sick of this kind of crime being taken so lightly.

Odd ... CBS's 48 Hours is having some segment -- as I type -- on police investigations into pedophilia.

Sweating blood, aren't they, to get to the root of the problem?

Very sickening, but it has nothing to do with pornography (directly - I mean).

It's akin to saying Ozzy causes suicides.

This kinda activity has been going on for centuries, even before the advent of Hustler and MTV.

Well of course! Human sacrifice, copulation with animals ...

As the post itself states, Infanticide is nothing new.

The point is that our post-Christian society (particularly the East and their fellow traveler western militant atheists) are reconditioning us to the pagan view of human life and the proof stares us in the face.

Either Christianity and its utter respect for human life (to the point of recognizing, however painful for the parties, the OBLIGATIONS that come from Sex, Motherhood, Fatherhood, Family) was just an aberration or we're in the process of deconstructing the only Truth with which the world has been conditioned en masse since the beginning of human history.

That argument is just as lame as arguing that people murder, women abort, incest and all manner of perversion HAPPEN so we must legitimize them.

I guess the only truly hopeful thing I see in all of this is that -- INDEED -- it is still possible for powerful men to move mountains and protect the most vile of murderers and pornographers if it means the ugly truth about THEMSELVES may surface instead of the remains of the women, girls and boys on whom they've feasted with long knives and razor blades.

the advent of Hustler and MTV

It's not the advent of Hustler or MTV that's new ... it's our post-Christian society's embrace of same with protections they NEVER would afford religious speech that threatens the moral relativism and rank perversion with which they can control whole populations.

It's not just the addictions by which folks are controlled ... it's the Prozac on which folks feed to fill the empty spaces where their pained consciences used to be.

It's a little thing they call "objectification".

Now, I realize everyone's got the right to objectify another.

Further, everyone's got the right to SEEK to be objectified. (Else where would we get our porn stars?)

Neither makes it correct and it's the objectification of human beings -- particularly the children to whom many of these perps are not attracted as pedophiles, per se, but as willing and malleable Objects with which to fulfill their perverted fantasies -- which is Wrong.

When folks like Henry Kissinger, Al Gore or Gorby speak of "population reduction", when Americans spend BILLIONS on human Objects of desire, when human lives are manufactured, sold and experimented upon for "Humanitarian" purpose ... we have reached an truly unprecedented objectification of human life and an absolute disregard for the ultimate worth and dignity of every human being.

CORRECTION: I wouldn't say everyone's got the "right" to objectify another. I would say everyone's got the free will to make that error ... even as concerns themselves.

It always ends badly.

I don't see where admitting that indulgence in a little vice is not only human but certainly forgivable to a point. It's just that I don't understand the yen to characterize vice as a Good.

Goods have to be essentially good and not just sneak in under the "Pursuit of Happiness" entitlement clause because they heighten physical or psychological pleasure in some ephemeral and fleeting fashion until the dose wears off.

It's in that transformation (or in the addiction of the weak) which vice has its ultimate ends. I've never maintained I was a saint. I doubt my Miss Grundy drag would be made of kevlar if I were.

Did you read the article? The "Prince of the Night" Nihoul was a known pornographer (including kiddie porn) and Dutroux had a history of sexual abuse.

I don't know if you're hip to the fact I think the EU is not only totally corrupted but -- as Mikhail Gorbachev remarked to the London press in March, 2000 -- "the new European Soviet".

My "Eyeless in Gaza" article makes clear the State's interest in protecting porn and all manner of "sexual liberation" (a KEY point of our destruction from within) as a means of population control. There is some solace, I guess, to be take from this article (re: Brussels) and Wallaby's article (re: D.C.) that indeed both the Soviets and our State Department use perverted sexual practices as a means to control those at the top as well.

Which brings me back to the "hopeful" part ... that -- despite the arguments supporting porn as an innocent pasttime and the right of every redblooded libertarian Larry Flynt -- we're not quite so decadent yet that excesses of this sort can't be used to blackmail people who must answer YET to the vestiges of Common Sense left in the masses.

This suggests to me that there still is something of the taboo ... even in preying on boys of 14 whom the Law of the Land has ratcheted into the realm of "consenting adults".

I don't think folks end up enjoying sex rings, child prostitutes and all manner of perversion (including torture) without being first being attracted to erotica and then plunged into the vortex of disordered Desire that is a predilection for hardcore porn.

It's the same with drugs. Of COURSE not all pot smokers go onto to hard drugs but it's very rare to see someone who's taken up heroin without experimenting with softer substances first.

If part of the excitement and titillation of porn (or erotica) is that it's a forbidden pleasure, it's probably better to keep a certain distance as a rule. I think of it like Jack Nicholson in The Shining ... where the kid knows better than to pedal his Big Wheel any closer to the Cowardly Lion kneeling before the man on the bed -- something is just Wrong about it -- but Jack can't help but want to possess the woman in the bathtub until it's too late and her body is rupturing in his hands.

The pleasure never turns out quite as real as the fetid sort of fallout. It's essentially a false good, that's why.

Conversely, the prospect of Christian sex and marriage (OH, WHAT A DRAAAAG!) appears to a modern as some sort of prison fraught with the responsibilities of reality and risk and -- worst of all -- binding oneself to one's Choice. Yet that choice has a strange way of transcending itself ... not only becoming more than the sum of its parts (particularly in the bearing of children) but a substantive Good which (like a maturing investment) sometimes returns far more than a person's ever put into it ... as long as a person's made a regular contribution all the while, anyway.

So ... you read the articles in Playboy but only look at the pictures here or what?

Nihoul is the sort of scot-free pornographer who peddles the stuff in the first place.

I think the dichotomy between his self-styled "Prince of the Night" sort of exposure and our own Kleigl-lighted Hollywood hero draped in the American Flag that is Larry Flynt sort of sums up for me how dimwit Americans can be.

But the quarrel is far greater between Christianity and the present-day heathen, post Christian, morality that has sprung up as a result of contraception. In one word: Christianity taught that men ought to be as chaste as pagans thought honest women ought to be; the contraceptive morality teaches that women need to be as little chaste as pagans thought men need be.

What a great article! (She is incredible ... means a lot coming from a misogynist like me! =)

A happy worker is an obediant and productive worker:

Kraft durch Freude
History The NS Gemeinschaft Kraft durch Freude, the National Socialist Organization Strength through Joy, was a subset of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront, the national German labor organization. All members of the DAF were also members of the KdF, and as basically any worker was a part of the DAF, so too were they in the Kraft durch Freude. The KdF was essentially designed for the purpose of providing organized leisure for the German work force. Interestingly enough, the DAF calculated that the work year contained 8,760 hours of which only 2,100 were spent working, 2,920 hours spent sleeping, leaving 3,740 hours of free time. Thus the driving concept behind the KdF was organized "relaxation for the collection of strength for more work." The KdF strived to achieve this goal of organized leisure by providing activities such as trips, cruises, concerts, and cultural activities for German workers. These events were specifically directed towards the working class, and it was through the KdF that the NSDAP hoped to bring to the "common man" the pleasures once reserved only for the rich. By opening the door for the working class to easily and affordably take part in such activities, it was believed that the labor force could be lulled into being more flexible and productive.

There were many aspects of the German KdF program, including wildly popular and easily affordable international cruises provided by an extensive fleet of KdF liners and smaller waterway pleasure vessels. Trips were organized to the coasts of Norway, Spain, and Italy, as well as destinations on the Baltic Sea, and the German and Danish coasts. The KdF also sponsored and organized a wide variety of other activities, inlcuding retreats, day trips, tours, concerts, theater and opera performances, art exhibits, and other cultural and historical displays and events, all of which were supposedly designed to aid the "average" German enjoy their free time more. It was hoped that this would help in creating a healthier, more educated and more productive workforce.

Another aspect of the KdF organization was the provision for workers to have a right to vacation and paid holidays, a concept totally unique to the period in nearly all nations of the world. Even hourly and temporary workers were extended these sorts of concessions. Another major aspect of the KdF was the attempt to make the automobile a reality for as many Germans as possible. To this end, the world famous Volkswagon was created and and an extenisve system was setup to allow nearly anyone to purchase and own one. The Volkswagon (The Peoples Car) was extensively used by the German Wehrmacht in a military role also - the military versions of the VW are often compared not entirely without basis to the American Jeep.

When WWII began in 1939, one of the most important functions the KdF helped serve was in the provision of the majority of its fleet of ships for use by the German Kriegsmarine, mainly as hospital ships or barrack vessels. The largest and most famous KdF ship, the Wilhelm Gustloff, served initially as a hospital ship during WWII, later as a barracks ship, and was sunk in January of 1945 with a loss of 9,343 lives, the largest single naval loss in history. The KdF also helped setup and staff rest homes for German troops, provided concerts and films for soldiers at the front, helped distribute amenities to traveling and returning men at railway stations, and other major points in Germany and abroad. This was often done in conjunction with other German social welfare and help organizations, such as the Deutsche Rote Kreuz.

The KdF was never in any way a paramilitary organization like many of the other auxiliary groups of the period. It existed soley to provide pleasure and relaxation, initially to German workers and later to Wehrmacht troops a well. It's overall goal was to create and mold a controllable work force, but as a result it also provided millions of Germans with pleasures and rights never before experienced by the average person.

The following is an excerpt from a 28 page publication entitled "Das danken wir dem Führer!" published in 1938 after the incorporation of Austria into the German Reich. It further expresses the ideas, plans and achievments of the German KdF. It is foremost a product of the era it was created in and drips with the sort of implicit propaganda written during the time, but it also highlights many of the actual achievements of the KdF and thus serves as an important reference point.

"The dignity of labor is evidenced by improvements in the appearance of the work place. Wherever one looks in Germany, ugly dark buildings are vanishing. The "Beauty of Labor" movement in today's Germany is not empty talk or an impossible demand, but living reality. Large sums that formerly would have been wasted in strikes and lockouts have been used since 1933 to improve work places. 23,000 places have been transformed form soulless drudgery to pleasant places to work. 6,000 factory courtyards now offer space for real relaxation, which was not true in the past. 17,000 canteens and lounges, 13,000 shower and changing rooms have been transformed. The dirtier the work, the cleaner the workers. More than 800 community buildings and 1200 sport facilities , including over 200 swimming pools, have been established. The crew quarters in over 3500 ships have also been improved."

"The NS Society Kraft durch Freude brings cheer and pleasure to workplaces through concerts and art exhibits. The art exhibits alone introduced more than 2,5 million workers to the creations of true German art. Just five years ago, it was obvious that the great works of German culture belonged to a small group of the upper class. Besides the factory concerns and art exhibitions, the NS Society Kraft durch Freude uses theatrical performances, other concerts, singing and musical groups to introduce the creations of German art to every working German. 22 million citizens have attended theatrical performances, 5.6 million the KdF concerts, and 17 million have found relaxation in more than 40,000 cabaret and variety performances, gaining thereby new strength for their daily work."

"Of no less importance is the KdF's vacation program. Earlier, German workers did not k
