The high school student who acted as a lookout during a brutal sexual assault of a classmate at Bayside High School pleaded guilty yesterday to attempted kidnapping in the case.
Jonathan Mendoza, 20, pleaded guilty in Queens Supreme Court. He was promised a six-year sentence in state prison when he's sentenced on July 19.
Prosecutors said Mendoza and two other students, Elkesh Leon, 20, and Parrish Jones, 20, lured a girl into a basement bathroom at the high school, choked her with a belt and sodomized her on Oct. 26, 1999.
Jones was in court yesterday to be arraigned on additional charges that he plotted to have the same girl kidnapped as he sat behind bars awaiting trial on sodomy and kidnapping charges for the 1999 assault.
Prosecutors said Jones, who is at Riker's Island, told a fellow prisoner he needed to hire a hitman.
The inmate, who became a confidential informant, gave Jones the number of an undercover cop. Jones allegedly told the undercover cop to kidnap the girl and keep her in a basement for several days and kill her "if necessary."
The indictment against Jones states he gave a written description of the victim, her name and where she could be found.
Jones allegedly directed the undercover to plant narcotics and a bloody knife on her to make it seem she was attacked during a drug transaction, according to the indictment.
Jones' attorney, Richard Johnson, said, "My client completely denies these allegations. I suspect they sent an undercover to coax him."
Queens Supreme Court Justice Joseph Grosso asked Mendoza if he was acting as a lookout when the 1999 assault occurred.
Mendoza responded, "Yes."
Mendoza's attorney, Sandra Perez, said her client pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping to limit his liability because he was facing both sodomy and kidnapping charges.
"He was facing 25 years," she said. "We didn't want to put his fate in the hands of 12 jurors."
The third defendant, Leon, pleaded guilty in January 2001 to sodomy and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
At least these honor students will be able to study on how to be a better criminal for the next 6 to 15 years.
This way when they get out they'll be more proficient scum.
Just put a bullet in the forhead of each.
I would gladly act as lookout while someone castrated these monsters.
FYI
This of course, will happen when you allow 20 year olds in high school. You can be sure they were trouble makers and didn't attend classes. How else can you not graduate from a NYC high school. Reading isn't a requirement.
I say this country needs to revive public floggings, beginning with these jokers; no fewer than 40 lashes apiece.
I beleive they are 20 now. In 1999, 2 1/2 years ago they would have been 17 1/2 or 18. Normal age for a senior.

What amazes me is the idea that these three thought they might be able to execute this crime and somehow get away with it. What was going on in the mind of these students? Did they really think they could get away with it, or did they just not care if they were caught? If its the latter, as I believe, then there is no hope of any reform for this crew and they should be put to death.
If on the other hand, they thought they might get away with a crime this horrific, then we as a society should take immediate steps to insure that other similar students are educated about the pitfalls of believing crimes like this will go unpunished, and throw these three in prison for their natural life.
It doesn't say they are seniors...maybe freshmen? Obviously very intelligent. /sarcasm
You are correct, it doesn't say that they were seniors at the time of the assault.
I was just saying that this didn't happen when they were twenty years old and still in high school.
They are twenty NOW and the assault happened two and a half years ago.
Don't mistake me, I don't care how old they were then or how old they are now, these animals deserve anything they get and will probably get a lot less than they deserve.
