National Gun Purchase Day; info, links, and Tally Sheet. (THREAD 2)

Thread One

You may or may not know that National Gun Purchase Day is July 9th 2001.

The U.N. has declared July 9th Small Arms Destruction Day and will be using this day to kick off a yearlong campaign to ban private firearm ownership.

The selection of, and the significance in U.S. History, of this day is very interesting.

July 9, 1788 New York ratified the Constitution with the provision that a Bill of Rights be adopted and they were the last Colony needed to ensure the Constitution's adoption and the creation of the United States of America. It is ironic that the U.N. picked that day to kick off their campaign, but it should be seen as a sign that what we are doing to protect the Constitition and the Bill of Rights is important.

We here at Freerepublic have decided to replace every firearm destroyed by the U.N. with a another, and to put that firearm into a civilian's hands.

To reach our goal we are asking everyone to do two things; buy a firearm for themselves or a loved one and report that purchase to this thread.

It is important to show the U.N. and our national politicians that we don't just oppose the U.N.'s policies, but that we are actively working to counter them.

We will be keeping a running tally of all National Gun Purchase Day purchases.

NGPD was declared in mid-May and because some can't afford to make their purchases on that specific day or needed the weapon sooner you should report any firearm purchase that you have made in the last month or that you make by July 31 2001 to this thread. Because all purchases made between May 31 and July 31 qualify as a NGPD transaction.

After we have the final tally on Aug. 1 we will be sending out press releases and forwarding the results to our political leaders.

You may report your purchase in any manner that you would like, (AR-15, rifle, pistol, one gun, five firearms) so you can keep you personal information as private as you wish. The most important thing is to buy the firearm, report the number of firearms purchased, and then let your Congressman know you don't believe that the U.N. should start re-writing our Constitution.

If you think buying a gun isn't enough, and you already belong to the NRA or GOA, then you should check out your local chapter of the Tyranny Response Team. They are very active in countering all who would destroy the Constitution.

I would ask that the number of pictures and graphics posted to this thread be kept to a minimum so the thread doesn't become unwieldly over the next month.

You should also let your local gun seller that you are buying this weapon for NGPD purposes and that you heard of it through Freerepublic.com. That way we can get a few more friends in the community.

Thanks to DrZ for the Graphic and Lowbridge for helping to get the idea rolling.

Any Washington Freepers who belong to the Washington Arms Collectors can read an article about NGPD in their July newsletter that I wrote and I mentioned Freerepublic in the article.

Here is what big ern bought for NGPD. You can get one without the lighting system for about $880 delivered or with just the rifle with a flattop receiver for $660 from ar15.com

I'm a wheelgun nut (though I do have semi-autos). I bought a Ruger Blackhawk, .357 mag in June. Since I'm in CA, I can only buy one gun a month (not that I do). So I can't buy one July 9 because CA won't let me.

>> Since I'm in CA, I can only buy one gun a month (not that I do). So I can't buy one July 9 because CA won't let me.

That only applies to handguns. From NRAILA-CA : "No person shall make an application to purchase more than one pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person within a 30-day period and no delivery shall be made to any person who has made an application to purchase more than one pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person within any 30-day period."

So go out and buy an assault weapon or something 8^) I bought an M1 Garand (already added to the tally) and it's the second one within a month.

>> I bought an M1 Garand (already added to the tally) and it's the second one within a month.

Let me claify that a bit. I first bought an M1 Garand (CIA = Century Arms International) from Big5 June 13 during a fathers day sale. After cleaning, inspecting and shooting it I decided it was a piece of crap and that I would return it to Big5. The barrel was badly rust pitted and the rear sight was very loose amoung other defects. I then went and bought an M1 (Springfield Armory) on June 28 for pick up on July 9 NFPD.

I guess I could claim that I bought two M1's for NFPD because I did. But I do plan to return the CIA to Big5 once I pick up the Springfield. I think we've entered a gray area of the NFPD tally. I'll let big ern decide.

Don't get the M1's unless they have been through a good factory refurbishment. Something like the CMP, which is my future M1's origins.

G. Gordon Liddy was always fearless in his support of our RKBA and seems the best hope we have of promoting the UN buy-a-gun-day.

I'll be picking up one of these Monday, along with some .45 Colt brass and a set of cheapie Lee reloading dies, which should work just fine for the project. Then, though I won't quite have it by Monday, the Brown Truck should arrive shortly thereafter with the additional parts from Brownell's gunsmithing supply to be added later....

Buy 'em, hide 'em, train with 'em. Because we know the liberals would not be able to fully utilize our military to disarm us. Their only avenue is an outside source. The UN. All my targets now sport blue berets of the UN color. Upper torso's can be protected by body armor, but heads can't. These boys want to take our rights. Damn it's time to start prepping for war folks, because if and when the liberals get back into power, they WILL be taking this road.

Lock and load folks. Keep your powder dry!

I've got one more 1911A1 (never enough IMHO) currently at the smithy. He swore it'd be ready in time for pick up but alas I'm the one doing the swearing as he says now no sooner than end of August. So I bought a new SIG 220 about three weeks ago that'll haftado ern ole buddy.

I will be at the range though with a PPK/S that has the worst trigger I've ever encountered. I've got about 2500 rounds of reloaded ball .380 and I'll either break it in or break my trigger finger. I've done the india stone deburr and polish (carefully of course) and a wolffe spring kit so it should be interesting......

Stay Safe and add me to your bang list please.

Actually, that percussion cap pistol is not a gun. Technically, it is a "firearms accessory," if you can believe it. You don't need a background check to purchase one and in fact felons can own them, as they are not considered "firearms." That is how places like Cabellas and Brownels, which don't sell firearms, can legally sell them.

I talked up NGBD during the gun show but had a very trying moring with the "Clip haired, mean-faced women/girly guys from Seattle who were protesting out front. Tomorrow is my birthday and I may post the rally report then, but if I get too busy - I'll do it Monday. :) Libertina

After much online research, I finally bought the P32 I mentioned above. It fits in my shirt pocket behind my checkbook, it fits in my cash drawer under some bills. It fits in my rear pocket in its cute little wallet like case - here Mr. Bad guy - I gotta get my money out.

Seriously though, it is a nice little shooter after a break in. My P11 has been flawless. The P32, OTOH, has trouble with American Eagle FMJ's but not (now) with Fiocchi JHP's. See this Firing Line thread for more info on my experience. GoldenLoki is THE place for gelatin tests, stats, and more info on the KelTecs.

Add one Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum. Purchased through the "Private sale loophole" with no background check. On the Snap On tool truck! How is that for class?

I already had a .44 Magnum (Scoped Dan Wesson with 8.5" barrel) but the Blackhawk is such a sweet shooter I had to snag this one.

>> Who has experience with Kahr weapons?

I have a Kahr MK9. Made in the USA, stainless steel, and very high quality. Never had any kind of malfunction. There are two variants available. The standard version has a long trigger pull and low trigger weight. The Elite version has a short trigger pull and heavy trigger weight. There is no manual safety but due to the long trigger pull on mine I'm confident it's safe to carry. Practice a lot and wear ear protection. Those suckers are loud!

In the past, I have purchased lots of the Italian Ammo up at the gun store on Old 99 just north of Burlington and south of Alger. Their website can be found at
http://www.kesselrings.com

Another good place with a large selection of Ammo (besides a gun show) is The Sportsco in Fife just to the East and North of the Tacoma. They also have a great selection of ammo and if you like outdoor sports are a must see store.

P.S. for the feeding of your new purchase I recommend stocking up on ammo at one of the local WAC gun shows. I couldn't believe the great price on S&B factory Ammo I got yesterday at the WAC show.

"Not a real contender, but an investment in the future-a Daisy Buck BB gun for my 6 year old Girl."

I've even gone so far and bought some old west replica cap guns for my grandchildren. I suspect these will even be illegal by then if things keep going they way they are. I also found a set of western revolvers with pink holsters for little girls. My wife says she is still jealous to this day that her boy cousins all got six guns for Christmas and she never did.

Most unusual, even more so cause they're made in America (not China). I took the little orange tip on the end of the barrel off, quite realistic looking.

You can find them here.

Okay, you guys knew of my dilemma... (we moved and can't find a damn thing including my BFSC card- just in time for NGPD!). So we spent all weekend looking for it (my husband could not make the purchase as he is in meetings on Monday). When I say we spent all weekend looking for it, I mean the house, closets, attic, basement and garage... all amongst my morning sickness and frustration.

Then I get a post reply from ARM USA and now the pressure is really on.... Well, I am happy to announce that at 21:00 I found it in THE LAST BOX IN THE HOUSE. It has my maiden name on it - I hope that won't be a problem... I will bring my Marriage certificate & birth certificate (anyone know if this will work?).

Don't PANIC! You can get a new BFSC in the unlikely event they won't accept your maiden name. All you have to do is take a simple basic firearms safety test at the gun shop. If a person can't pass that test they shouldn't be allowed to own a shoe horn. Just kidding about the shoe horn, the 2nd amendment DOES say "shall not be infringed" ;)

I'm picking up my M1 Garand today. WooooHOOOOO !

Just picked up a 1976 Ruger Mini-14 stamped with the following: "Made in the 200th Year Of American Liberty" I thought it a very appropriate addition to my collection. "None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free." Johann W. Von Goethe

What a revolting development this is...

I go to my local gun store. He is closed for the week for vacation.

I then go to the nearly local gun store and ask for my picked out rifle of choice - Winchester M70 Stealth .308.

There ain't none. Anywhere - except perhaps another gun store. The warehouses have *0* of this model and caliber.

I would like to think this has nothing to do with the huge lawsuits gun makers seem to get threatened with or have actually been socked with. I'm sure it does not. But it makes you wonder.

Not a real contender, but an investment in the future-a Daisy Buck BB gun for my 6 year old Girl

She's a real contender in the eyes of the Second Amendment Sisters, and a real investment
in the future of the Second Amendment;-)

Thank you very much. I had seen two such conversions in a Cowboy Shooting Sports Magazine and wondered how to find them. I appreciate the reference.

Well, I picked it up today, and I'm impressed- Hege got the 1858 Remmie right on the money. I've now changed my plans just a bit, and will use this new one in box-stock as-issued condition for CAS *Pioneer class* shooting, and I'll fit the .45 conversion cylinder to my cutdown Uberti 1858 instead.

The R&D conversion is particularly nice in that it doesn't require a change of the hammer or other components of the handgun. Now if I could just get one of their cylinders chambered for .45 autorim or .45 Schofield....

After the R&D cylinder gets here and I've gotten it fitted and working, I'll let you know if I'm as pleased with it as I expect to be. But boy, the pistol sure is nice!

I purchased a CZ-75B on July 2. Does that count? I had to go to Venezuela and thought I might be there longer. I didn't want to miss out on Gun Purchase Day.

It counts from one to eight real good!

You got enough clips for it?

I saw in shotgun news where somebody was doing a major run of new 45 AutoRim factory loaded ammo, for all those substitute WWII Gov issue hog leg lovers. While it beats moon clips, I think the 45 Long Colt would be a more interesting round to shoot.

My question, is how heavy is the conversion compared to the regular cylinder? Holding a long pistol out at arms length is hard enough without adding too much extra weight to it (including all those big 45 LC cartridges).
