This is a most wonderful quick summary of the history of our great nation. It deserves a look.

Jan. 20, 1993 - Al Gore is sworn in as the 45th Vice President of the United States
Jan. 21, 1993 - Bill Clinton is sworn in as the 42nd President of the United States.
Jan. 20, 1997 - Al Gore is sworn in as Vice President for a 2nd term.
Jan. 21, 1997 - Bill Clinton is sworn in as President for a 2nd term.
That's wrong. Both the president and vice president are sworn in on the same day. I noticed serveral important omissions for the colonial period. Where's the first settlement? Where's the French and Indian War? The Intolerable Acts? The list isn't very well prepared or researched.
Great find - Thanks.
This is also very interesting.
"Sep. 17, 1787 - The delegates at the Philadelphia convention approve the Constitution and send it to the Continental Congress"
September 17th is Constitution Day, dont'cha know.
However, I did notice a battle called "Ghettysburg". Don't know about that one, but my g-g grandfather fought for the CSA at GETTYSBURG!
Sorry, couldn't let that slip.
"Jul. 11, 1798 - The United States Marine Corps is established."
This is incorrect. The US Marine Corps was established Nov 10, 1775 @ Tun Tavern, Philadelphia. The USMC dress blues jacket is black with red piping in honor of those early Marines who would take the red coats off of dead brits, turn them inside out, and wear them.
Not to nitpick but, Calvin Coolidge was Vice President to Warren Harding, Charles Curtis was VP to Herbert Hoover, John Nance Gardner was VP to FDR for two terms, then wallace was vp and then truman was vp, both also under FDR
I see another important date missing:
*Nov. 11, 1991 - Berlin Wall collapses as the policies of Ronald Reagan win the Cold War.
Correction: That would be November 11th, 1989.
Dec. 4, 1619 - The 1st Thanksgiving is celebrated.
What, you mean by those lazy pagans who settled in Jamestown (the founding of which is not listed), even before the landing at Plymouth Rock? (/sarcasm).
Don't the public schools (at least, outside Virginia) teach that the first permanent English settlement was Plymouth? And the modern historians (like Peter Marshall) who discuss the Jamestown settlement seem disappointed that some of the settlers survived. (/rant)
off?
Well then compile a complete history that is totally accurate and post it so we can pick s**t through you.
It shouldn't be too hard for someone who is obviously perfect, like your fine self
there
Excellent post. Thank you.
Apr. 19, 1775 - The Revolutionary War officially begins with the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
The date for Ohio's statehood is wrong. Ohio did not actually complete the statehood process until Eisenhower's administration.
Dec. 7, 1777 - The 2nd Battle of Saratoga begins.
Dec. 17, 1777 - American forces win the 2nd Battle of Saratoga.
Again, not to nitpick, but the Second Battle of Saratoga (Bemis Heights) was fought on October 7, 1777, lasted 52 minutes, and Burgoyne officially surrendered on October 17 after negotiations ended.
Well, newbie, accuracy matters. Don't shoot the messenger, but the timeline is crap. See also replies #7, 8, 9, and 19. That's just what people can correct off the tops of their heads.
Stick around. You'll learn.
You wouldn't be trying to make people think you're a certain well-established FReeper, would you?
This is seriously flawed, not to mention riddled with misspellings.
--> Jun. 9, 1772 - The 1st naval Battle of the American Revolution off the coast of Rhode Island.
How can you have the 1st Naval Battle of a Revolution when the colonists haven't declared themselves in revolution?
It is Lewis and Clark, not Louis and Clark.
--> Sep. 20, 1814 - The "Star-Spangled Banner" becomes the official national Anthem.
Congress did not make it the National Anthem until 1931
--> Aug. 22, 1846 - The United States annexes what is now Arizona and New Mexico.
You contradict yourself by pointing out that the territory acceeds to the US following the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo at the conclusion of the war.
-->Nov. 17, 1869 - The Suez Canal opens for business, in Egypt, linking the Mediterranean and Red seas.
This is not part of US history
--> Mar. 4, 1893 - Adlai Stevenson is sworn in as the 23rd Vice President of the United States.
Adlai Stevenson? Really?
--> Jul. 28, 1914 - World War I begins as the Ottoman Empire declares war on Bosnia.
That would be the Austro-Hungarian Empire, following the rejection of the ultimatum by the Serbian Government at Belgrade, not the Bosnians.
--> Mar. 4, 1917 - Calvin Coolidge is sworn in as the 29th Vice President of the United States.
Calvin Coolidge was never a Vice President to Woodrow Wilson.
--> Mar. 7, 1936 - Germany invades the Rhineland (Austria).
Germany reoccupied the Rhineland, which was demilitarized. The Rhineland is not in Austria (in the south and east of Germany) but is near the border with France (west of Germany).
--> Sep. 28, 1939 - Germany and the Soviet Union sign the Warsaw pact, keeping the Soviet Union out of World War II.
That would be the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, a non-agression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. The Warsaw Pact was a treaty organization formed for military purposes following World War Two and in response to NATO.
--> Jun. 27, 1950 - The United Nations declares war on North Korea.
At no point did any side declare war. The United Nations considered it a 'police action,' and this was only possible because the Soviet Union delegates walked out of the Security Council several days before over an unrelated matter.
--> Jan. 20, 1969 - Spiro Agney is sworn in as the 39th Vice President of the United States.
Agnew.
-->Jan. 16, 1991 - A U.N. air strike is launched on Iraq. Feb. 23, 1991 - A U.N. ground force liberates Kuwait.
The UN sanctioned the actions, but it was a US-backed coalition.
--> Feb. 1, 1992 - The United States and Russia sign a treaty officially ending the Cold War.
As the Cold War was never declared by either side, it is not surprising that there was no treaty officially ending it. The Cold War came to an end either with the collapse of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe in 1989-90, or with the end of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Much revision is needed before this can be of any use to home-schoolers.
--> Mar. 4, 1893 - Adlai Stevenson is sworn in as the 23rd Vice President of the United States.
Adlai Stevenson? Really?
I hate to defend the shoddy timeline, but on this point I think it's actually right. Apparently the Stevenson family produced more than one politician named Adlai. I've seen a mural type thingy with three of them.
>The list isn't very well prepared or researched.
Among other things, the list misses the Vikings discovery of America ~980 AD.
Any more corrections from sharp-eyed Freepers????
