Stay the hell out of the private sector! It seems like bush really likes socialistic programs a lot!
To: kattracks
This is not a precedent we ever want set. We do not want the government owning private enterprise, and we don't even want it holding private debt. Public ownership of the means of production is the dictionary definition of socialism. This was FDR's dream... to create a large enough pension fund via Social Security to buy controlling interest in the Fortune 500. This we do not need.

Well said. This is a horrifying idea. Quite shocking, actually.

It will be the formal establishment of fascism - de facto fascism is now being announced via Klamath Falls land grab under cover of the ESA.

Excuse me, but the Fed is not part of the Bush Administration. If you have a problem, go to Greenspan.
As an aside, I also do not favor the idea. This is simply another reason why "retiring the debt" is a bad idea. If there is a surplus, it should go back to the taxpayers that are overpaying.

Bush? You do know the "Fed" is an independant entity, don't you? They are not part of the Administration.

Indeed. The FED is even a 'government' entitiy. They have stockholders and publish annual reports just like any other company.

Anochka is more correct, this is Fascism. Although, hey, what is the difference?
Fascists like uniforms better, that's all.

If some of the people on this forum would spend more time getting their facts straight and less time bashing Bush for all the country's ills, real or imagined, we could have a much more enlightening discussion.

It was Adolf Hitler who, when asked the difference between Marxism and national socialism, replied, "In the end they are the same thing."
I figure you can't get much more of an "expert" opinion than that on the subject!

Well said. This is a horrifying idea. Quite shocking, actually. I couldn't agree more. What's worse, it will probably receive very little media attention.
