UTAH. That's where you wanna be, baby. Wonderful state. Or maybe you might find North Dakota to your liking. And how do Iowa and Nebraska sound?

Those are four states you might move to, if you care about a) your child's education and b) how much that education costs you in tax dollars, based on the expenditure per student in elementary and secondary schools.

I have to get out to Iowa sometime... how on earth do they average a 600+ SAT math score?
(Indiana is stuck in the 490's, and we're not the bottom of the pile)

I'd like to know too. I keep hearing they're had to encourage immigrants to keep industry going.

Couldn't find "tables" in the HTML sandbox. I'll try again later.

What I don't like about the "booby index", aside from the name, is that those like Mississippi, who pay little for education and get little in return, still have decent "booby" ratings. Their -1 makes them look like a "middle of the road" choice, when the reality isn't quite so rosy.

Thank you for the footwork. I like the drum beat that $$$$$ doesn't work into the scheme of educated graduates.

Thanks for posting this article. I can use it to refute the people here in Utah who want to pump massive amounts of money into the schools. They always drag the argument that Utah is last in expenditures per pupil.

Excellent. Thank you. I'm looking at the source code... you didn't type all that yourself, did you? How did you make the table so quickly?

It was easy actually.  I use Microsoft Frontpage

I copied your data onto a new Frontpage page.  Then I click Tables in the menu and Convert text to table using <space> as the column indicator.  Centered it, and used the mouse to adjust the column widths and; Wa-La!  Took about 3 minutes..

Good post....I've actually been wondering about my state's (NC) rating for a while now but didn't know where to get the info.

This is actually quite amusing to me since our politicians are always trotting out that our EX governor was widely considered the "Education Governor".

Bill Clinton was on the record as stating that they were looking at NC's educational system as a successful venture that other states should look at.

ROTFLMAO....our public schools suck! Look at where they stand #40, WOW, Impressive huh? Our booby index is -9...and that can't be good.

They can throw all the money they want at the public school system and it will still remain the dismal failure that it is now and continue to get worse each year.
