This Monday, two Russians were attacked by sharks in Outer Banks health resort area in North Carolina, the American press reports. 28-year-old Sergei Zalukaev and 23-year-old Natalya Slobonskaya came there from Virginia State together with their friends from to spend holidays (Labour Day).
According to RIA Novosti, Zalukaev lost his leg and died shortly after sharks attack because of blood loss. Slobonskaya who left her foot was transported by helicopter to Central Norfolk General Hospital.
Natalya Slobonskayas condition is considered to be serious, though stable. According to the hospitals representative, she will be treated about one month. In addition to the left foot, Natalya also has many wounds on her body after sharks teeth. The doctors cannot start skin grafting operation yet, because they are afraid of possible infection.
Taking into account the fact, that the sharks attack was lasting for several minutes, it is not known, of what kind and how many sharks have attacked the Russians. The reason of this attack committed at the distance of 7 metres from the shore is not known as well. Last incident of the kind in Outer Banks area was registered in 1957.
The authorities have not closed the beach because of the incident, though now all the seaside is being controlled from air. Altogether two persons including Sergei Zalukaev died this year because of sharks attack. One death case has been registered in Brazil.

Today the state of Florida made it illegal to feed sharks. That means three or four of those companies who run the "Put on your wet suit and feed the nurse sharks" are now out of business. Looks like another win for the enviros.

I watched a special on Discovery channel last night...mostly green propoganda and "Jaws" stuff...but they never mentioned when all the different varieties of sharks were congregating off the coast. Weren't there several hundred all together? Isn't that unusual? Now, maybe this is nuts, but could ELF transmissions do something like that? Sharks are really sensitive that way I think.

Looks like another win for the enviros.I am loath to give them credit for anything, but I would not be so quick to chalk it up as a victory for E-wackos, I'm sure they are happy about it. The media is not reporting it as such.
I think it does make sense not to feed sharks with humans around.
BTW:
I'm a west coast Florida resident not real fond of the idea of being a sharks dinner.
I know it's selfish of me not to take a swim for the cause.

Slobonskaya who left her foot I know it's sick but this line had me doubled up for ages... let me see. 'All your shark are belong to us', perhaps?

That line cracked me up too. It's so passive, like she was merely forgetful or something.

Hello.... It's not the enviros.... it's fact.... You feed any wild animal they will always come back to the source for food... You continue and they will lose their desire to hunt for food. Don't blame the issue on the enviros in this case blame the situation on the feeding of sharks by man. Case in point. 20 years ago there was no place called Stingray City in the Cayman Islands. A few fisherman and dive companies started feeding the rays and now they all come to this part of North Sound for the feeding. That's all they know. On an other part of the Island they have started feeding the Lemon Sharks and guess what....? They have had their first Lemon shark attacks.... Shark attacks have never happened before this... The MEP's have met and are considering a ban. They should.... Rays aren't deadly, Lemon sharks are.... What do you think now. Don't blame the enviros on this, blame this on pure ignorance of how to deal with a predator.... and blame this on human ignorance...........
