Heche's Mother, Sister Are Outraged
STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN
The mother and sister of actress Anne Heche have
come forth with outraged reactions to her
just-published warts-and-all memoir "Call Me Crazy." In the
book, which Heche, 32, has discussed on national television
with Barbara Walters, Matt Lauer and Larry King, she
tells of her memories of being sexually abused by her
gay father from the time she was a toddler. She also
asserts that she sometimes suffers a personality disorder
that sends her into a "fourth dimension," where she
believes that she is from outer space. As Heche's mother, Nancy
Heche, says on the PreviewPort.com site, which is
devoted to books: "I am trying to find a place for myself
in this writing, a place where I as Anne's mother do not feel
violated or scandalized. I find no place among the lies and
blasphemies in the pages of this book.
Anne's sister, Abigail Heche: "It is my opinion that my
sister Anne truly believes, at this moment, what she has
asserted about our father's past behavior; however, at
the same time, I would like to point out that Anne, in
the past, has expressed doubts herself about the accuracy of
such memories. Based on my experience and her own
expressed doubts, I believe that her memories regarding
our father are untrue. And I can state emphatically,
regardless of Anne's beliefs, that the assertion that our
mother knew about such behavior is absolutely false.

After everything she has done to get attention in the past, it doesn't surprise me...She should change that "used to be crazy" to "still crazy!"

Just another Hollyweird nut job willing to sell out everything which SHOULD be precious to her to advance her pathetic career.

I remember when her preschool teacher shot lightning out of her eyes and turned Anne into a mouse.

She claims to be (or has been) schizophrenic.
I believe her. She is a whacko.

We really don't know if Ann is crazy or not - but there is one thing we can be certain about - she is a DEMOCRAT!! hahaha!!!
To: sonserae
She is having "an out of mind experience."

"Doublethinkfulness".

Did her father die of Aids or not? I don't hear the mother and sister denying this fact.
If he was a married man engaging in such practices, I wouldn't put anything past him. He didn't care if he gave his wife a disease.

The thing to remember is that reality is not nearly so obvious as we think. If this can happen to poor Anne, then none of us can be so sure about what is true and false.

Well, who knows the real story? But the fact is that sexual molestation by a parent DOES often result in a frequent "fugue state" such as Heche describes, a sense of being outside one's own body and looking at events as a third person.
What a tragedy if this is true. Don't think we'll know the real story in this life.

Her sister's defense of her father was rather Clintonian, while her defense of her mother was much more decisive.

Is betrayal a genetic trait? First the father betrays his family, then Anne.
I know that LYING and BEARING FALSE WITNESS are sins, I didn't know that they were signs of a cured mental illness. I learn something new every day....

Others here have commented that if her father died in the early 1980s of AIDS, he must have been among the first, as it was before the disease was even called AIDS or identified as a "gay man's disease." If I cared enough about this whack job's life, I'd wonder if that really is what killed her father.

Others here have commented that if her father died in the early 1980s of AIDS, he must have been among the first, as it was before the disease was even called AIDS I know for a fact that AIDS was part of the lexicon in mid-1982, and my recollection is that it was in use in 1981 (AIDS jokes being rather popular at the time....)
So that part of the story is at least possible.

In the very early 8o's the constellation of sign and symptoms that comprise "AIDS" was first referred to as "Gay Related Syndrome" based on the patient population exhibiting the mysterious syndrome.

On the other hand, "repressed memory therapy" has been pretty much debunked as creating "false" memories, and this sounds just like that situation.
OTOH, Anne Heche seems to be a genuinely disturbed woman...

The thing you have to be careful regarding is that "recovered memory syndrome" was an 80s era boondoggle.
I had a former sister-in-law who claimed by the aid of a "therapist" to have "recovered" memories of abuse by her father. It damaged their family very severely. The likelihood is that the father--who is since deceased--was not guilty of such abuse (although he was far from a "good person").
There are cases where actually decent parents have been sued years later on the basis of such "recovered memories," which turned out to have been complete fabrications on the part of agendized "therapists" who never met a patient who was NOT molested.
