China & NMD

This is just another one of my rants. Read 'em and give me your reactions.

-------

The outline of today’s international foreign policy framework is based on gunboat diplomacy. It is not just the US. It is everyone almost. In the height of the Cold War the US and Russia were much more successful than China at this game.

During the Cold War the US and Russia got really crazy. We basically had a pistol to each other’s heads and said, “If you blink, we are going to blast you”. Under that framework the term “world superpower” was defined by who had the biggest army and who had the most nukes. Generally speaking there was no other criteria.

China objects to NMD because they are defining “world superpower” in those terms. They want to be a world superpower and they view America as a world superpower. They view NMD as destroying all their plans and as a racist method by hegemonic Americans who want to do nothing but hold China down. They are going to take out all stops to try to prevent NMD. They literally view us as Nazis. We are there to be overtaken or to be ‘put in our place’. That is China’s #1 goal.

Basically the world has gone up to its peak in aggressiveness on all sides and is starting to come down the back slope. GW Bush wants to do that by design, but cover ourselves in the process, which is a smart move. Defensive weapons are the only option if that level of aggressiveness is going to come down.

China though is dragging up the rear, after the fact, and wanting to gain that status of “world superpower”. In the process they are destabilizing the whole region and setting up for extreme aggression. Particularly they want to take over Taiwan and drive America out of Asia.

China’s “national interests” lie outside of China’s borders. The other national interest is for the CCP to stay in power. Those two things are summed up in one word: Taiwan.

After the Cold War game is over and everyone is almost all gone home, China is still out there tossing around the football. It is an interesting strategy because that is how they took over China. The KMT fought the Japanese big time. The fight was vicious. However after the Japanese war was over, the CCP swept in with fresh troops and started a fight with the KMT. A civil war immediately following a World War is what got the CCP in power. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The CCP exploited a weakness at just the right time and it got them the whole country.

If America does not get NMD, then we must go on the offensive just like against the old USSR. That offensive move would be equally offensive to China’s ego. We must either have offensive weapons, and nothing holding us back from using them, or we must have defensive weapons. We cannot have “no weapons”. That is the only way we can prevent a war in Asia. What China wants is for the US to yield to their chest thumping and tell them that they are right. Once we do that, it is a green light to take over Taiwan by military force. No matter what we do, we are damned. We just have to figure out a way to lessen the likelihood of war and lessen the overall impact.

The really dangerous people are those Americans who think that China is no harm, that they are friendly, and that THEY can negotiate China out of its position of becoming the regional military superpower. THEY think that diplomacy can stop the CCP from taking over Taiwan militarily. This is not only arrogant on part of those democrats, but it is also impossible. Those anti-NMD people, anti-nuke, anti-military democrats are going to cause a war, not prevent one.

NMD may cause a national outrage in China. It is better for them to be outraged and us to be protected than for them to be outraged and us not to be protected. The democrats are basing their arguments against NMD on the idea alone that China will be upset if we have NMD. They are assuming that we have to make China like us. China already does not like us. To say that they do like us is wrong. America and China have competing interests and it causes problems. As long as we submit to the CCP’s view of things then they think we are A-OK. It is not limited to Taiwan either.

The democrats say that if we build NMD then China will become more aggressive and an arms race will happen. They are saying that NMD is going to be the root cause of the Chinese build up. THAT is wrong. China is building up their nuclear forces and conventional army for many years. They have every intention to invade a conquer Taiwan and they are making plans for that. Taiwan threatens the very existence of the CCP, therefore conquering Taiwan is literally a life or death situation.

The democrat party does not want us to have NMD, but they also do not want us to have a big nuclear arsenal. The democrat opposition to NMD is setting America up to be put into a compelled isolationist position. China has openly predicted that America has lost its will to fight. The democrats who oppose NMD do so on the foundation that China is really tame and of no threat to anyone, and that if our diplomats like each other then China won’t invade Taiwan and China won’t build weapons.

China will have to be contained one way or another. If we don’t contain them, the CCP is going to roll on Taiwan, and if we try to intervene then we get blasted. It might not stop at Taiwan either. They are trying to exploit a time frame, a window of opportunity if you will. China is building weapons to fight America. They fundamentally do not like America. China still has a real distrust for America. Their buildup of weapons is there at least partially to meet what they see as American aggression, which includes Taiwan. It is not about NMD. It is about America in general.

The only real option is to meet their aggression with a strong defense.

Even if we did just “give them Taiwan” there is no promises that Taiwan would go. Selling out Taiwan is not the answer. That will not solve the problems we face with China.

Even if they have Taiwan under their control, their views of America will not fundamentally change. If the PRC takes Taiwan, conflicts and conflicts of interest between the US and China will increase.

Whats more is, if the US has all its economic eggs in one basket then that tool could be used in any number of ways.

We are somewhat walking a tightrope.

If war breaks out and America is dependent on China to supply most of its stuff, then China can hold that over our heads.

It could be a way for America to "hurry up and get over it so we can get back to business".

On the other hand it could be preventing a war for the time being at least.

I think we should open up India and have supply lines there. That will lessen the impact and provide similar economic incentives for our companies.

If war breaks out, I don't know what it will take to circumvent China. Odds are there will be people pushing not to circumvent, but rather just 'forget about the little incident'

Thanks for the rant. Bookmarked. BTW - didn't congress (democrats) just slash the NMD budget by $1.3 billion yesterday...Jiang is pleased.
