Muslim Militants order non-Muslim women in Kashmir to wear identification (how Talibanesque...)

Close on the heels of its dictate to Muslim women in the Kashmir valley to wear the burqa (veil), the extremist Lashkar-e-Jabbar on Saturday ordered non-Muslim women to apply the bindi on their foreheads and don saffron-coloured dupattas for identification.

Ignoring the criticism of its move to enforce an Islamic dress code for Muslim women, the Lashkar-e-Jabbar, which made its mark last month when it launched the burqa drive, asked Hindu and Sikh 'sisters' to wear these identification marks to avoid the action proposed to be taken against Muslim women without veils.

In a brief statement issued in Srinagar, the group asked Hindu women to wear the bindi on their foreheads and Sikh women to wear saffron dupattas.

The Lashkar-e-Jabbar also confirmed a directive to transporters in the state to reserve 50 per cent of the seats in their vehicles for women to discourage men and women sharing seats.

The deadline set by the outfit for Muslim women to start wearing the burqa is due to expire on Monday.

The deadline was extended by 10 days on September 1 by the outfit following requests from the like-minded radical women's organisation, Dukhtaran-e-Milat (daughters of the faith).

The bindi is that dot worn by many Indian (Hindu) women.. a dupatta is piece of clothing worn either around the shoulders or over the head.. and a burqa, as the term is understood in South Asia, is clothing that covers the entire body of a woman.. nothing is exposed but the hands and the feet. It is usually completely black. Colored burqas have been known to anger Muslim extremists in places like Pakistan.

Another thing of interest is the recent influx of retired Afghan mujahideen into the Kashmir conflict.. and of course everyone is familiar with what's happening in Afghanistan today, with their rampant persecution of religious minorities.

Traditionally the Bindi is worn by only certain castes. The saffron colored robe is usually ONLY ceremonial because it is SO VERY EXPENSIVE to make and own. This dress code order is a YET another infringement on Hindu's and Sikh's rights.
