I'll just show you something from thread I:

executive privilege:

exemption of the executive branch of government, or its officers, from having to give evidence, specifically, in U.S. law, the exemption of the president from disclosing information to congressional inquiries or the judiciary. Claims of executive privilege are usually invoked to protect confidential military or diplomatic operations or to protect the private discussions and debates of the president with close aides. Efforts by various presidents since Eisenhower to gain absolute and unqualified privilege have been rejected by the courts, though they remain inclined to support most claims of executive privilege. Where criminal charges are being brought against a president, as in the case of Richard Nixon, the claims of executive privilege are weakest; during the process leading to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, numerous claims made by the White House were dropped when it was clear courts would not uphold them.

Burton's Subpoena is ALSO looking for things BEFORE Clinton,
the documents requested go back 4 decades,
so Burton has provided a reason why this administration
can release ALL the documents without being accused of just going after Clinton.

They certainly didn't do well with Clinton/Reno.

Just what is it about we, the citizens, that we cannot be trusted to hear the truth?

Sorry, TGYC! After I made the thread and then did post #3, my AOL connection died in the middle of fixing the font problem and I had to restart my machine. ;-(

Thanks for fixing it - sorry for the aggravation!

"I'd never noticed your mis-spelling of Yatch"

The real laugh is that it wasn't until about 6 weeks after I registered that I noticed it was wrong. LOL

This works for me. The executive and legislative branches have an honest disagreement about privilege? Fine. Take it to the judiciary, and let them sort it out. That is what the separation of powers is about. Both the legislature and the executive believe they have rights -- rights conceded are rights lost. The two branches disagree about what those rights are. Let the courts settle it (that is their job), then call it a fair fight with no hard feelings.

Does anyone seriously think that Mr. Bush will not willingly comply with the court's eventual conclusion in this case? This is a man with tremendous respect for the law. But just because you respect the law does not mean you roll over and play dead. Similarly the Congress should not roll over and play dead.

"my AOL connection died in the middle of fixing the font problem and I had to restart my machine."

My advice: Get a new ISP already. Having an AOL account is looked on suspiciously by most conservatives in this forum, including me.

I'll be shocked.

There is no logical reason why the documents requested, which span 4 decades,
should not be turned over as required.
They should have been handed over without the need for a subpoena.

China AOL Time Warner and News Corp (aka Fox News) "Deal" - The REAL Story - from China

In the not to distant future
Mrs. Sheeple tells her kids "AOL and Fox News say China is our friend
and I watched that new channel from China and the people are SO happy."

I personally don't because Dubya does respect the law and continues the de-clintonizing of the White House - i.e., continue doing the right things. Like it was prior to clinton taking office.

Check out Thread 1 and you'll see a lot of discussion regarding the probability that he used the executive privilege to posture himself so as not to look like he was trying to sick the dogs on clinton. Well folks I used exec privilege but now the court says I have to comply and so here it is.

Did I say that right?

So why, why, why is Bush holding this stuff so close to his vest? And why has he also illegally refused to release information about the Reagan Administration?

Suggest you go back to Thread 1 and read Alamo-Girl's posts (hit Control + F and type in " Alamo-Girl " and read her replies; they are very informative).

Alternative theory..Burton has already "seen" the material..if there wasn't anything hot, he wouldn't bother going after it..this is carefully choreographed...possibly for two reasons...1)..to make Bush seem a good guy, and possibly a sting operation on Waxman..see if the House Dems shoot themselves in the foot...BTW, it'll be interesting to see if Lantos plays nice this time......he has got to be thrilled with the way Bush and Powell avoided the UN conference...compared to the way Clinton hung Israel out to dry....so maybe Bushs will have an unexpected friend at the hearings..I'm not holding my breath, but I wonder if Lantos might behave a tad more even-handed..
