Three days after the siege, according to neighbors, there was also a lone woman--Beck's girlfriend, Saori Seki--sifting through the ashes, then hurrying away in a borrowed car.
He was in and out of trouble and jail. He was not particularly adept at any of his scams and his lies were often discovered, but dismissed as evidence of a harmless, if peculiar, personality flaw. He sided with his mother in an acrimonious divorce from his well-to-do father, who wanted nothing to do with either of them afterward, and she rewarded his loyalty with financial support.

He was bound and determined to die, and he did.
For a guy shooting at me it is.

tbeatty, you still have yet to justify the presence of this at the scene:
I honestly believe some will be dissapointed to learn that she didn't hang herself in a jail cell.
If she was not held she wouldn't have waited three days to return to the burned out and Bull-Dozed crime scene of here dead bopyfriend.
Irrelevant. The real question is and remains what this level of weaponry is doing in the hands of the police. If this M60 was, the collateral damage inflicted on the neighborhood would simply be unacceptable.
You also need to ask yourself the honest question, "How would you like it if this was deployed right in front of your house?"
If Beck brought out a grenade launcher, how should they deal with that?
Retreat and call in support then. Bottom line, the mission of the police isn't to deploy maximum force and "go to war" right off the bat, putting innumerable innocent lives in jeopardy.
I have an interview on tape with a woman and her husband who were neighbors with Beck. They both liked him. The woman stated something to the efftect, "We considered him to be our friend. My husband and I socialized with him a lot. He came over all the time. He was very friendly. You could tell he went out of his way to be nice. To tell the truth he was the nicest most sociable man on the block."
Why were there no statements supportive of Beck in this article? Beck frequented parties in the area a lot. This article references them. Evidently the guy had some social skills because he was invited back time after time. Read the article. Not one of those people who socialized with Beck and like him were quoted. Only those who supported the kook theory were.
His girl friend should be a fairly good judge of who Beck was. She states that he was the nicest thing that ever happened to her. I'm amazed that comment made it into print.
The book on Beck reminds me of a B-movie roll. The bad guy is a one dimensional demon set up by the end of the movie to be erased from the face of the planet. Well, the writers of this story have almost got it right, when they can one dimensionally demonize people before they're erased from the face of the planet, they will have perfected their craft.
Beck was no doubt a problematic individual. The question is, was Beck an individual who was so dangerous that he should have been executed? When a law enforcement agency plans an action, I would like to think they would sit around a table before hand and set up paramaters.
"Okay guys, we've got a petty larcenist here who's likely purchased some weapons. It appears some of them are semi-automatic rifles. We're going in with a warrant. How are we going to handle it if he resists? He's never used violence before. All indications are that he probably wouldn't use it this time unless he feels cornered. What's the consensus if he resists? Do we escalate immediately or try to work with him?"
It sounds to me like there's more planning involved with one of my visits to the super-market, than there was for the Beck raid on the morning of August 31st.
Sure honey, pick up some of those refried beans, but if they don't have them drop back to plan B. To quote the ATF, "Plan B, you mean we shoulda had a Plan B?"
Retreat in a neighborhood? I don't think so. I think if Beck opens up with explosives, that guy with M60 opens up in full-auto. Clear out his field of fire before that happens.
"When the going gets tough, the tough go cyclic."
Sheeze. There could have been any number of reasons why she didn't return until then. Statements like yours above is why some of us try to bring a little rationale to these threads. You LE=evil bunch just throw out any old idea that pops into your head as fact, without realizing the numerous other possibilities that may exist.
