Cultural fest turns out to be a fiasco

UCKNOW: A cultural fiesta, ‘The Matrix’, organised by the law honours students of the Lucknow University, turned out to be a fiasco due to the presence of a handful of rowdy elements.

The programme had been organised on Sunday at Madhav auditorium in Saraswati Shishu Mandir. A few seniors came in an inebriated state and created a scene, hurled abuses at juniors and passed remarks at the girls inside the auditorium.

The day-long programme was aimed at providing a healthy interaction between the students.

Besides quiz, dance and singing competition, it also had a half-an-hour item ‘Campus Show’ in which the students staged a play depicting how a boy gets spoilt in a bad company and the reasons of eve-teasing and harassment of girl students.

There was also an act in the play which had to display dresses which a girl should wear on the campus to avoid eve-teasing.

However, the Lucknow University authorities censored the show following pressure from higher ups. As a result that part of the play where girls had to stage a catwalk wearing ‘proper dresses’ was cut down to only a few second’s duration.

The play also pulled up the present breed of chattra netas (student leaders) who indulged in extortion and criminal activities.

The theme, however, did not appeal to the rowdy elements, learnt to be ex-students, who made catcalls and booed the performers.

Some of them were dead drunk and entered into a scuffle with the organisers. The situation, however, took an ugly turn during an event of group dance performed by girls when some of rowdy elements started dancing and shouting expletives in front of the stage. At this stage the police resorted to cane charge.

Nevertheless, the effort of the students was praised by the chief guest Justice PK Sahay.

LUCKNOW. Doh!

Do not overlook such things. If you do so, it will only embolden them.

There's an Indian city named Lucknow

Their festivals really do suck now

The folks there are whacked

You may get gobsmacked

I wouldn't go there for a buck now.

Your posts always give me a smile

You must be a real anglophile

If you'd come on THE cruise

O'er a wee bit of booze

We would dissect the tight little isle.

(I really do talk in prose in real life, LOL!)

<< As a result that part of the play where girls had to stage a catwalk wearing ‘proper dresses’ was cut down to only a few second’s duration. >>

It is hard enough for girls to do a catwalk without a lot of eve-teasing. Here they only got to do it for a few seconds in proper dress. Then what? They did a catwalk in improper dress?! No wonder the boys were making, uh, catcalls.

This site is aimed at providing a healthy interaction. Do not create a scene, hurl abuses, or pass remarks at girls.
