Clinton Says, 'Rally Behind the President' in Aftermath of Attacks

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former President Clinton, who led the nation through the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, urged Americans to rally behind President Bush in the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attacks. "We should not be second-guessing. We should be supporting him," Clinton said in a telephone interview while traveling in Australia.

Clinton, who left office in January after serving two terms, said he was stunned and angered by the attacks in New York and Washington.

"The most important thing is, we all have to be strong, calm good Americans now and rally behind the president and support the actions he will doubtlessly take ... in the days ahead - in both rescue and reconstruction of the area and especially in investigating and taking whatever action is necessary" against those responsible, Clinton said.

"The main thing is, we must send a clear and unambiguous message to the world that the people of America are completely 100 percent united and we're going to follow our leaders and support whatever action (Bush) takes," he said.

Clinton was president in April 1995 when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed, killing 168 people. Timothy McVeigh was executed this year for the crime and conspirator Terry Nichols faces the death penalty.

On Bush and his team, the former president said: "We're going to have to give them some time. They're going to have to work on this. During my time, (authorities) forwarded any number of these potential attacks. I know they're going to work overtime. I know they're going to do a good job."

Clinton praised Bush for taking the advice of the Secret Service and flying from Florida to military bases in Louisiana and Nebraska since the tragedy.

"He needs to take every conceivable precaution in the event there are more attacks planned," Clinton said. "I'm sure he wants to return to Washington as soon as possible. He is doing what makes sense from a security point of view based on what he has been advised. I'm almost positive of that."

"Nobody should be questioning any decisions he makes," Clinton said. "We ought to be hanging in there, giving his national security team the time it takes."

I can't believe Clinton had the class to say this. Time for Daschle and Gephardt to speak up. Take that Peter Jennings and Tim Russert

Clinton is a loser. We don't need him telling us to rally behind our honest President.

Who gives a f___ what Klinton says??? It was HIS attitude and HIS policies that led us directly to today's catastrophe. "It's the economy stupid" was his mantra. His idiotic stripping--actual spending reductions--of the budget for the military and our national intelligence community (not just reductions in the rate of growth...) are squarely responsible for allowing this to happen. This traitor needs to be executed for treason against our country.

Ironic, that he would be at one of the furthermost points on Earth from the bombing.

That is why he said this. He would not like anyone to remember his part in this.

Correct words, for once, from a scummy low-life.

Leave it to the Rapist-worshipping media to hunt Bubba down for a stupid interview like this one.

Well, I guess since Bubba told us to support President Bush, then we should should support him, right? (volcanic barf alert.....)

I hear that. Klinton hand carried the Palestinian cause from day one and his stupid, crooked bitch wife kissed their ass all the time selling Israel out to these jackals and helping destroy them and us. Clinton should be hanged for allowing US military defenses to degenerate and degrade into a joke, that we are now paying the price for. Oh by the way, Clinton and Gore's helping the commies get missile technology, also made them available to middle eastern terrorists to buy and distribute through the secondary resale market. The next attack may be a nuclear one. It's time to crush the enemy to death.

Interesting that he'd be about as far away from the U.S. as possible when this happened.

Who would have thought Clinton would have more class than the media huh? Perhaps his words about Bush's actions will appease his newsreaders. They have heard from their leader now.

Right, he's on the other side of the world, and he put us in this position with his stupidity and cupidity.

Who gives a f___ what Klinton says???

Oh, let me start with about 50% of the population. They voted for him, remember? When we go to war, it takes BOTH Republicans and democrats, to put our best foot forward. If you want to do something really constructive, find a picture of Gore hugging Arafat. THAT would be a "web winner", today.

My thoughts exactly. Amaaaaaaazing that he's just not around now, isn't it? Yet we still get to hear from him. Aren't we lucky?
