Sources: Suspects Paid Cash For One-Way Tickets
Car, Evidence Seized From Logan Airport
Sources are telling NewsCenter 5 that Middle Eastern men who boarded the two planes bound for New York Tuesday bought one-way tickets and paid in cash, and there may be a connection to Springfield, Mass., which could link them to the USS Cole bombing.

NewsCenter 5's David Boeri reported Wednesday morning that sources say at least four suspects, described as Middle Eastern men, arrived late to the airport, purchased one-way tickets and paid in cash for them, all of those factors being known security risk flags.

He said security personnel are trained to question late-arriving passengers who pay in cash for tickets. Two of the suspects had first-class tickets and another had a seat in coach. There appears to have been two teams consisting of a total of five to six men.

Sources are also telling NewsCenter 5 that two of the men arrived from Maine, taking the Yarmouth ferry, and that the white Mitsubishi the investigators have impounded had been traveling between Logan and Springfield, Mass., in recent days.

Boeri reports that investigators say there is a known connection between groups in Springfield and the plotting of the USS Cole bombing last year.

Sources said that documents were found inside luggage in the Mitsubishi Mirage that had Virginia license plates, including an information manual in Arabic on how to fly a 767 and a copy of the Koran and a fuel consumption calculator.

The suspects also reportedly had airport employee ramp badges and crew uniforms, which were left in a suitcase that did not make it onto the plane.

The car was moved to an out-of-town FBI garage for processing last night.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu says that the rental car was in and out of the central parking garage several times in the past week. An airline crew identification tag was found in or around the car that may be connected to one of the suspects, WCVB reports. The crew tag ramp pass, which allows employees access to the airport, may be for either United Airlines or American Airlines.

Investigators in Boston are looking for members of a local terrorist group affiliated with Osama bin Laden.

The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that five Arab men, including one who was a trained pilot, are being identified as suspects.

While the FBI has refused to comment on any possible suspects, a number of past reports link Boston-area members to bin Laden's terrorist organization.

In February, the Boston Globe reported on a pair of former taxi drivers investigated for their alleged involvement with terrorist plots financed by bin Laden.

Another former cabbie -- Raed Hijazi -- lived in Everett, Mass., for several years and was sentenced to death just last year in Jordan for plotting a terrorist attack.

There also are two Boston residents counted as members of a Montreal-based bin Laden cell. Authorities intercepted that group before it could set off a millennium bomb in the U.S.

American Flight 11 from Boston was hijacked after takeoff from Logan Airport en route to Los Angeles Tuesday morning and later crashed into the World Trade Center. Ninety-two people were on board, including the pilot, John Ogonowski, 52, of Dracut, Mass.

United Airlines officials said that Flight 175, bound from Boston to Los Angeles, also crashed into the World Trade Center.

Good idea, we will ban the use of cash by none white males. All travlers with shaved cheeks will be stripped searched, on the assumption that they own razors. One way tickets are bad. For your safety all tickets must be round trip.

--"...Arabs with CASH for a one-way ticket..."?

Who could have stopped them without getting sued for "profiling"?

How do they know this?

At LAX there are video cameras trained on the licenseplates on all cars entering and leaving the parking lots. If they had they same system, they could have checked already.

The news gets worse and worse for our nation's air "security" system. Cash, one-way tickets are the number one and number two signals that something is awry. I know - I helped develop training software for American Airlines for security agents. This points out two things: our pathetic safeguards of air travel, and the fact that these terrorists weren't as bright and sophisticated as is made out to be. You would think really sophisticated people would avoid highly visible cues like these.

"Another former cabbie -- Raed Hijazi -- lived in Everett, Mass., for several years and was sentenced to death just last year in Jordan for plotting a terrorist attack."

And why was this thug allowed in the country in the first place or allowed to remain in the country after being sentenced to death for plotting a terrorist attack?

No doubt this revelation will intensify dumb leftwing liberal demands to crack down on cash purchases of airline tickets. But you can't fight terrorism with such meaningless, cosmetic measures; no matter how much you restrict the behavior of your own people and try to protect your most valuable assests, other dissimilarly protected assets will always be open to devastating terrorist attacks . . . A terrorist can always find a way. In other words, you can't protect everything. Limp noodle Boston handwringers will never understand that. So they interminably focus on irrelevant crap like this, cash purchases, one-way tickets, etc., etc., ad infinitum etc. Just as they have focused for many, many years on guns instead of criminals.

Ultimately, we must go to the source of the real problem: The cities and towns and hamlets of the Middle East -- and nuke them into non-existence and cow the survivors for the rest of time.

Thank God George Bush is in office.

I can just hear the Dems' response to this: "No more paying cash, and no more one-way tickets!"

No lets just ban those dirty Arabs from using cash to buy tickets. I think we're all comfortable with all other races, be they white, black, yellow or whatever.

Why should they? I suppose that they were sophisticated enough to know that "security" personnel would just shrug off these "clues"... as they did.

Do you suppose that all airport baggage checkers or security personnel actually care about doing the right thing? It only takes One! People, in general, have a rather lackadaisical attitude about security. I was stunned to learn today that one may carry knives on-board IF it is a certain size. In this case, I understand the knives were plastic...depending on the force and quality of the utensils used, plastic knives would work. Now get this: RUSH just said (it's 2 PM) that ALL knives have been ordered removed from Logan Airport eateries...you don't suppose that Logan suits are quivering in their collective boots what with the insurance biggies breathing down their necks do you?

I hope that we learn the immigration/VISA status of these terrorists--are they here as students? Guest workers? What?! I really think we need to screen just WHO we let in to USA and WHY they are coming! Though our airport security needs review, my first question is why are these terrorists residing within our borders??
