The Book of Revelation, Chapter 18, vs. 16-19.

18:17 for in an hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any wither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,

18:18 and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city] is like the great city?

18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

The way Babylon is described sounds a lot like New York.

This gives me a chance to bring up a subject. Suppose we do have a "war" on terrorism.

Suppose also that a certain number of nations agree to participate in the war.

Suppose this coalition guarantees the safety of Israel.

Suppose that war on terrorism is declared a great success?

Suppose that after 3 1/2 years, all hell breaks loose?

Sound scary?

That was rather rude. Just because someone quotes the Bible, they are crazy? I feel sorry for you.

And it happened...in A.D.70 when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans.

Wrong timing for this to be NYC. I do not believe that Babylon is America, however America may be a type of Babylon. If it is America, the ultimate destruction will not be something like this but Revelation says it will be total.

Jerusalem was never the center of world trade like NYC today.

Rev 18 came to my mind as soon as I saw the fire. It is called the WORLD TRADE center. Each building came down in an hour. And all of the worlds kings (not to mention the heads of major companies) watched the smoke from the city. The fire would have been clearly visible from the harbor.

That said, I am not a good enough student of Rev and the time lines to know when the events in 18 was supposed to happen.

Revelation is not talking about New York City. The ENTIRE city was not affected. Read the ENTIRE book of Revelation and you will see OTHER events will happen PRIOR to this. Don't just jump of a passage because it looks like a possibility. This type of posting is what allows others to view Christians as ignorant and alittle nuty.

Interesting, anyway. :) But I think the destruction will probably be greater. Nevertheless, makes you think. I believe we're getting close, and I also think that Babylon COULD be the US & Western culture, personalized by a city. Dunno. We'll see :)

#4, peace has not be declared yet so peace for 3 1/2 years couldn't possibly have happened yet. When peace is declared in the Middle East, THEN watch out. As of now it's the usual moral decline leading UP to this.

The A.C.L.U. must be having nightmares at the times the word "God" has been mentioned as well as prayer.

It's crazy to quote a passage from the bible that has no relevance to yesterday's events.

And nobody except maybe devout jews stood afar off and mourned the sacking of Jerusalem or the complete destruction of the temple.

The ENTIRE city was not affected

The tower itself is the size of major cities. It has two zip codes.

This looks like what I continue to see on TV

18.9 The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, "Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

Plus this could describe the ships in the harbor watching

17For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.' Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, "What is like this great city?'

Sorry about the multiple posting. I was impatient with the speed of the reply posting and over did it.

Seriously though, don't jump to conclusions because of a single passage. You MUST take it in its proper context and in the proper of order of events. No doubt we are working up to this, however America is NOT Babylon and this passage is NOT talking about NYC.

The ENTIRE world will be in a moral malaise. It's getting close but we are not there yet. Other events will happen too but please don't post nonsense. What you have prvoen in prophecy is people will "be tossed to and fro". You are making that prophecy come true.
