MIAMI -- Law enforcement officials said that a Vero Beach man is now in custody at the FBI regional office in North Miami Beach.

The man, of Arab descent, may be connected to the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., but he has not been arrested.

FBI Issues A "Be On The Lookout" Notice

The FBI Terrorism Task Force has issued a BOLO -- 'be on the lookout' -- for a man they are saying is armed with an AK-47 and is extremely dangerous, according to WPLG.

The BOLO lists two names for the man: Amer Kamfar and Amer Taiybkamfar. He is described as a 41-year old man, 5-foot-9, with dark hair and dark eyes and a stocky build. They are also looking for a 1996 silver-blue Voyager with the tag number FD9 7RFU.

The tag number is traceable to two addresses, one of them is a Vero Beach house (pictured, right) that FBI agents have been searching for much of the day.

A background check on Kamfar indicates that he is a licensed pilot with other certifications, including flight engineer.

It is not known at this time exactly when the BOLO was originally issued, but it lists Kamfar as "armed and extremely dangerous," and advises officers to use "extreme caution."

Hollywood Search Warrant Issued

At least two police agencies were on the scene of a rooming house (pictured, below), located at 1818 Jackson St. in Hollywood.

Three Broward Sheriff's Office crime scene units showed up around 6 p.m. Wednesday, in addition to uniform officers with the Hollywood Police Department. Three agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms also arrived on the scene.

The officers appeared to be serving a search warrant. Neighbors told Channel 10 News that detectives were in the neighborhood Tuesday night, showing photos of two men to residents.

Investigation Moves Forward

Using passenger manifests, the FBI said that they have identified 12 terrorists who were onboard the planes used in the attacks. They said that there were three terrorists on each flight.

Channel 10 News reporter Rad Berky said that agents have searched an apartment (pictured, left) in Coral Springs that may have belonged to one of the terrorists and served a search warrant at another residence in Davie.

It's believed that the Coral Springs apartment belonged to Mohamed Atta, 33. Agents discovered Atta's name, along with the others, on the passenger manifests of planes involved in yesterday's terrorist attacks.

"I saw it yesterday, there were lots of people here, lots of cars outside and about five or six people inside with guns. They were looking for someone. They had this notepad with a picture on it and they were asking people if they knew this person," Mahnaz Fini, a neighbor, said.

Agents don't think that Atta was currently living at the residence. They believe that he moved to Venice, Fla., Agents were also seen at Atta's residence there, showing pictures and asking questions.

FBI agents investigating the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington told a Venice couple that two men who stayed with them while getting flight training last year were involved in yesterday's attacks.

Charlie Voss is a former employee at Huffman Aviation in Venice. He said agents who interviewed him at his home have told him that authorities found a car at Boston's Logan Airport that is registered to the two men. Voss said that one of men who stayed at the house in July 2000 was named Mohamed Atta. He also said that he knew the other man only by the name of Marwan. Atta's name is on one of the manifests of a hijacked plane.

The houseguests took flight training on small planes at Venice Municipal Airport. Voss said that the men were asked to leave their home after a week when the couple grew uncomfortable with them.

Berky also reported that sources said that agents were looking for two cars -- they have now located one of them. The first car, a tan Oldsmobile Alero with the Florida license plate UEP-54N, was traced back to a leasing company in Boca Raton. It was found Wednesday afternoon.

The second car that investigators are still looking for is a two-door, red, 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix with the Florida license plate D79-DDV. Agents have traced that car back to Atta in Venice, Fla., although Atta's driver's license shows an address in Coral Springs.

Police still have an APB on the Pontiac Grand Prix. If you've seen it, call your local police agency or the FBI.

The investigation is also moving ahead in Daytona Beach. Investigators have impounded the car of a student at Embry Riddle University, one of the nation's top aeronautic and avionic institutions.

That student's apartment is being searched and a picture of Osama bin Laden was reportedly found in the student's vehicle.

Berky reports that the FBI is being very tight-lipped about its investigation and that the Miami headquarters is under increased security.

Let's hope Floridians now realize their problems are a little more serious that butterfly ballots.

This from the 9/13/01 Wheeling (WV) Intelligencer (paraphrased):

The Belmont County (Ohio) sheriff arrested two people Tuesday night on several charges including ethnic intimidation. An Exxon station employee called police to report thtat three persons, dressed in what appeared to be "Arabian dress" with their faces covered (even the males), had just left the property. Yusof Abul Hakin Alim, 51, of Baltimore, was arrested for persistent disorderly conduct, falsification, no operator's license and a seat belt violation.

A female, Amatullajamila Halimah Ali, 37, of Baltimore, was arrested for resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct and ethnic intimidation. When she was told to get on the ground, she yeled that she was a warior of Allah and several other things in an unknown language, possibly Arabic. She reached into her robe, but pulled out only a cell phone. The third person was an apparent juvenile. Their car had been rented from Budget at the Baltimore airport (a pretty good distance from Belmont County).

The sheriff immediately contacted the FBI. He said the people probably gave false names and didn't appear to be of Middle Eastern origin, despite their comments and a bumper sticker on the car: "Pray Before We Pray for You."
