For those who have never been to New York and the World Trade Center, please go to World Trade Center.
I took my niece to the top about 4 years ago. It was quite an experience and the views were breathtaking. We stayed up there a long time and I must say that the thought did enter my mind that something could happen to the buildings someday. But, I was thinking of such things as an earthquake, lightening, hurricane force winds, a gas explosion,...all natural disasters. I was not imaginative enough to consider what would happen on September 11, 2001.
I was looking for a nearby Web Cam to find out what was going on yesterday, and there was nothing left. Looks like most of the cameras were sitting on the WTC. I ended up at the "Top of the World" web site, and it was almost like looking at pictures of the Titanic... surreal.
Regards...
Yes, it will always now be in the same category of disasters as the Titanic. We are learning that anything man builds can be (and is) vulnerable to the raths of nature, as well as to the actions of other men.
I think that this will be this generation's call to patriotism. It seems that each generation needs a jolt to make them realize that we must, as a country, be strong and not complacent. I only hope that this will make many of our voters understand now exactly WHY we need a strong military and honest and patriotic leaders.
Thank God George W. Bush is at the helm.
You are so right...most people who have never been there cannot appreciate exactly how big these towers were and how HIGH they were. It is a wonderment that human beings can build these types of buildings! The Empire State Building is also awesome and VERY high...but were dwarfed by these towers!
New Yorkers and other citizens from large cities take these buildings for granted...but, as you said, someone from Iowa...or most of middle America.... would truly be in awe.
If anything positive comes of this tragedy it will be the understanding at long last among the sheeple that the emasculation of our military power must once and for all time be stopped and reversed. That includes everything from quick-strike small forces to the most powerful nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, it seems human nature is such that it takes this kind of shock to jolt the senses of an increasingly lethargic and complacent populace. If these attacks don't do that, we're really in deep...
Go George W. Bush!!!!
