Found this one on another board and couldn't resist bringing it over to FR. It was the first smile about this whole thing that I've had in a while. Miss you all and wish everyone well.

Thank you. I needed that! I feel that way right now. :-(

They already tried to bring it down in '93, and they succeeded this time. If they rebuilt it, I would not want to work there. The place seemed to be a magnet for terrorist activity.

The site(s) need to become a park to remember those who died there. NYC will again build the world's tallest building, but not there.

It sounds like you missed the joke. Look at the photo carefully again.

WTC weren't the worlds tallest buildings... may have been when first built, but haven't been for a long while.

Damn! Someone took my idea. Although there should only be one "finger" on one side with two on the other. Oh and one more thing.... it should face an easterly direction... say Mecca?

Actually, the WTC has not been the "tallest building" for some years now. Currently the Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia, holds that distinction.

The site(s) need to become a park to remember those who died there. NYC will again build the world's tallest building, but not there. I humbly disagree. We should build on the exact same spot with very similar architecture. It would be symbolically, in-your-face, sticking it to those who dare such acts and show our resolve. I do believe there should be a memorial park of some sort incorporated into the structure/complex though. Somehow, I don't think the NewYorker's who worked and died there would mind in the least.

You both are correct that the WTC was not the world's tallest buildings. What I was saying in my post, was, that NYC, when it rebuilds, will once again have the world's tallest structure, because when they build, they will surpass the height of any existing structure.

Thank you for humbly disagreeing with me. That means we can talk:)
What you propose is reasonable. I would just preserve the spot where the WTC towers stood, because now it is hallowed ground, like Gettysburg or Pearl Harbor, in my opinion. I have a friend,a firefighter under that rubble, from a fire rescue squad in the Bronx. Please pray for him and his family. He is among the missing.

I didn't see the picture, but I still think it would be a mistake to rebuild them exactly the same. Anti-American terrorists would make it a #1 priority knocking it down again. It would be too devastating if that were to happen again.
To: Nom
Good idea.
You can't keep good Americans down. (Especially those tough-as-nails New Yorkers.)
Fugetaboutit! We will rebuild taller towers.

Love the picture, and love the idea of facing it towards Mecca.
The WTC towers will be rebuilt. For NYers and other Americans their absence will be a thorn in their side until they are rebuilt. They have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. They were a symbol of American capitalism and strength. Their replacements will be an even greater symbol to our ability to stand up to punkass terrorists. By the time they are rebuilt, there will be no terrorist network capable of dreaming of taking them out.
The observation deck will be replaced by an Aegis cruiser-style defense system. They will be the safest place in America to work.

Love the picture, and love the idea of facing it towards Mecca. The people of Mecca had nothing to do with it. Islam is not the source of evil in the modern world.
I think we need to get some perspective.
