Let's not forget about these women. Keep praying and working. If Afghanistan want to "appear" at least the slightest bit "cooperative" they could at least release these people on trial for being Christians.

And if they don't release them. . . it's 8 more names to place on the rolls of the honored. And 8 more reasons to flatten the Taleban when we go in to take out bin Laden.

You'd think, by now, that the Taleban would have gotten the message. Instead, they are reported as massing troops on the Pakistani border. How convienient: it makes wiping them off the face of the earth a smaller and simpler job. Remember the fate of the Iraq column retreating from Kuwait City in the face of defeat. Look for a replay, squared and cubed. . .

I am deeply saddened about this, but we all know that action must be taken against the Taliban. America will not be held hostage.

Taliban assures US on aid workers' fate

By ELI J. LAKE
September 17, 2001

WASHINGTON (UPI) - U.S. officials in Islamabad said their Taliban counterparts have assured them that two Americans facing trial for Christian proselytizing are "fine" and that their case will not be linked to any possible U.S. military strike against Afghanistan, a State Department official said.

"We see no indication that the Taliban are trying to link the safety of the Americans to any possible U.S. action," this official told United Press International.

U.S. chief Consular David Donahue contacted Taliban officials in Islamabad Sunday for further consultations on the case of two Americans on trial for owning pro-Christian video tapes; translating Christian material into the native Afghani dialect; and related charges in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The two Americans and six other Westerners affiliated with the German relief group Shelter Now International are being tried by an Islamic court. Although the maximum penalty for proselytizing to a religion other than Islam is death, Taliban officials had said that punishment would not be extended to non-Afghans.

"Donahue contacted the Taliban in Islamabad on Sunday, he was told the two American detainees were 'fine' and the investigation and the case were proceeding quickly," this official said. The aid workers were arrested in early August.

Since last Tuesday's terrorist strikes on New York and Washington, Taliban officials have publicly stated they would not hand over Osama Bin Laden, the man President Bush said Sunday was the prime suspect in the U.S. investigation into the attacks. Meanwhile, numerous Afghanis have headed to the country's southern and eastern border in anticipation of U.S. retaliatory strikes.

Those women are essentially fools.

Militant christian feminism should not be taken to Afganistan. They were aware of the local laws and now must suffer the consequences of their imprudent actions.

Should we arrest all militant Muslims for teaching here? It would be the same thing. I say we do.

I pray every day for the deliverance of the eight Christians held by the Taliban. I also pray that they will not be tortured, but if they are or should be executed that they will have comfort, courage, peace in their souls looking forward to theri reward in Heaven.

These are true martyrs, being killed by enemies of the cross. Only Islam turns martyrdom into acts of terrorism.

Yes Bert, they are fools for Christ.

I hope your cause is worthy of you.

These women, to put it delicately given their position in captivity, are not personally unknown to people I know well. They are two of the finest people you would ever care to meet. They were delivering humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, and in that they have done more to make peace and prevent terrorism than you will ever do by calling captive Americans fools.

I cannot believe that a longstanding Freeper like yourself would choose to defend the dictators of Afghanistan at a time like this. I cannot believe that you would choose to deprecate these ladies rather than wish them well at a time like this. Moreover, I do not believe that you have any evidence that these women were exporting "militant Christian feminism." And I certainly cannot believe that you think they deserve to die at the hands of a cult minority "government" that rules not from the people's consent but by naked force. I do not think that other Freepers believe these things either; and therefore unless we are notified otherwise we will attribute your surprising statements to an ill digestion rather than to the other things such statements imply.

Bert, words mean something, and your words will be used against you on the judgment day if you don't repent. You may see these women as fools but to God they are obedient servants carrying out his will. No one lives forever, everyone must give a account to God for the things they did on earth.

The prayers have been answered.

They are Free!
Praise
Jesus!

..."Today we've got incredibly good news," President Bush said after the aid workers were plucked from Afghanistan by military helicopters and taken to Pakistan. "Our United States military rescued eight humanitarian workers who had been imprisoned in Afghanistan."

..."Eight foreign aid workers, including two Americans, were safe in Pakistan Wednesday after being held in Afghanistan for three months by the Taliban for preaching Christianity, U.S. officials said.
Three U.S. special forces helicopters picked up the aid workers in a field near Ghanzi, about 50 miles southwest of Kabul, at about 4:40 p.m. EST, Pentagon officials said. The aid workers were flown to Pakistan, and appear to be in good health, officials said."

Thank God. Praise God. Praise Jesus. The release/rescue of these people is truly a miracle that only God, working through people, could have accomplished.

I have learned over the years that when the very thing happens that you have been praying for, you Thank God For It; and you acknowledge His answer to prayer; and you DON'T minimize it by saying that it just would have happened on its own.

I am sure this rescue will prove to be an interesting story in human terms, but it is even more momentous as a miraculous answer to the many, many prayers of many, many people. Thank You Lord!

Militant christian feminism

Amazing . . . now I think I have heard it all. I can't imagine what a "militant Christian feminist" must be.

From all accounts, these are two very extraordinary, caring ladies who love the Lord and love humanity. If they were guilty of anything, they were guilty of obeying their Lord and following the Great Commission to preach Christ to all nations. For this crime they will surely receive a crown in heaven.

What a miracle that they came out of this alive. It would have been so easy for any number of Taliban soldiers at any point along the way to put a bullet in their heads. It really causes me to realize that each of us is immortal until the appointed time that we are called from this Earth; and when that time comes, there is nothing that can save us from departing. Obviously, God is not through with these lovely ladies yet.
