A Face in the Smoke?

 A couple of still photographs of Tuesday's attack have gotten a lot of attention from the public.
 One of the photos is from the Associated Press and the other from CNN. Many claim they see a strange shape in the clouds of smoke in the photos. They say they can see eyes, a nose, a mouth and horns.
CNN has not commented, but the AP says the photo was untouched and unaltered.
We've gotten an incredible amount of response to these pictures.
The AP photo was transmitted within 40 minutes of Tuesday's attack by freelancer Mark D. Phillips who has been working with the AP for 15 years. Barbara Moike was the editor on the AP picture desk that morning and told 9NEWS that AP has a very strict written policy which prohibits the alteration of content of a photo in any way.
She sent it out to AP subscribers--just the way it was received. Another AP photo executive, Vin Alabiso, says "the smoke in this photo combined with light and shadow has created an image which readers have seen in different ways."
As for the CNN photo, it was posted the first day of the attack and has since been taken down. 9NEWS was unable to get any on-the-record comment from them, but they have a similar policy regarding content alterations.

This makes #3 times that the face in smoke story has been posted. Also, for the third time: The story was originally a tabloid article and photo from a Brazillian skyscraper fire many years ago.

I have seen this picture again and again...it kind of reminds me of when my brother and I were little kids, on vacation...driving in the car, we would get bored, and look up at the clouds, and try to see what kind of image each cloud was portraying...anyone can look at just about anything and see something they want to see in it
A few months ago, friends of ours in Chicago sent us a news clipping about a man who cut down some branches from his tree...a woman walking by, claimed one of the cut branches grabbed her, and there in the end of the newly cut branches was what she claimed was the 'Virgin Mary'...before you knew it, everyone and his brother was out there staring at this branch and proclaiming it some sort of a miracle...Our friends went by to have a look at the branch....all they could see was a cut branch, no picture of the Virgin Mary in it...
If one wants to believe there is a face in the smoke, then go ahead...just dont expect other folks to see it....I have looked at this picture, and there does seem to be some faint resemblance to a face...does it mean anything to me? Only if I let it...

Yes, we all see what we want to see. Who can say if this is random smoke patterns or something more macabre and sinister, but the faces are at least clear in these photos. It is not as if you have to squint and step back five feet to see them. The face on the left is incredibly well proportioned. Makes you wonder...

It's an enhanced picture designed to appear to the superstitious and the hysterical. Pay no mind to it.
