[history]
As it was at most U.S. airports, last Saturday was the first near-normal day at Denver International since the terrorist attacks. On United's Flight 564 the door had just been locked and the plane was about to pull out of the gate when the captain came on the public address system.

Words escape me. I don't think the next hijacker will just have a blanket thrown over him and the authorities will be on a "recovery" mission to find the assorted body parts.
To: kattracks
Bump for a pilot with a plan.
To: Texasforever
They will be on a recovery mission anyway. Better to fight back and save lives than to die like sheep led to the slaughter...

I would bet good money that this brave pilot will be fired.

.....no foreign nationals eligible for employment. Now why can't our politicians make such common sense statements regarding our immigration policies?

Good riddance to the "Absolute Obedience" doctrine. Its inherent wrongness lies in the fiction that there is a social contract established between hijacker and captive, based on the lines of "Obey and we'll let you live". THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 'CONTRACT' OF ANY KIND WHEN IT IS FORCED ON YOU, AND ALL OF THE POWER AND ALL OF THE DISCRETION IS IN THEIR HANDS! There, I shouldn't have to shout that, but people have been sheep for too long.

If there was a hijacker on board he would be happy to get off at the destination and try to get a different flight.

To: kattracks
Wow, this pilot has balls! Probably an Air Force vet. FAA ought to make his speech part of that mandatory speech they give before EVERY flight.
To: meenie
Then they should make this speech SOP for all pilots.
To: kattracks
Bump.
If I were his passenger I would have instantly felt better about the trip.

My exact same speech given to all who have been concerned, since Sept. 11.
I flew from west to east, earlier in the week, and was ready to hurl shoes and cameras.
It's about time that people thought offensively, as well as defensively (...the defensive crowd is just about to reduce passengers to traveling in a towed glider --- no thanks!).

Sounds to me like this pilot is the right man to be put in charge of anti-hijacking security planning, industry-wide!
To: Texasforever
Y'know, if this country wasn't so bound with "tolerant" sensibilities and fear of lawsuits, I'd say no way will he get fired. Unfortunately, we are so bound. Whatever happens, guys like this and the Let's Roll crew are giving me hope for the future.
To: Semaphore Heathcliffe
I say we spread this around some, and forward it to all our air-travelling friends.
