[history]
Andrea Peyser betrays both ignorance and prejudice in levying false charges at the United Nations in the wake of the horror of Sept. 11. She asks, "where are the resolutions? The outrage?" They are here, if she had only cared to check ("America-bashing U.N. should get lost," Sept. 21).

Secretary-General Kofi Annan denounced the acts as soon as he heard the terrible news......and in the next breath called on the U.S. to exercise "restraint" and for a "measured response" only after consulting with all the pissant third-world nations that make up this joke of an "international body."

The U.S. has just paid another $ 500,000,000 to the U.N. No doubt this will help pay for the expense of staging the racist conclave at Durban, South Africa, at which Fidel Castro sat at the head table with Coffee Inane. Peyser was right.

The United Nations has been loud and clear in its utter condemnation of the terrorist attacks. Secretary-General Kofi Annan denounced the acts as soon as he heard the terrible news. The Security Council and General Assembly quickly followed suit, with strong resolutions pledging global support for efforts to root out terrorism.HOT DAMN! Condemnation and Strong Resolutions?
DAMN! I feel confident now.
Let us resolve to meet again tomorrow and discuss a resolution that will bind us to meet the following day to lay out an agenda to draft a resolution to strongly condemn those who would draft a resolution against our resolution yada, yada, yada, yada..............

The terrorist targeted the wrong building. Should have been UN headquarters instead of the WTC.

U.N. staff have raised nearly $100,000 for New Yorkers in need, That would not even cover their parking tickets!

Peyser was dead-on right. It was so refreshing to read it in a New York newspaper too.

Peyser's column generated so much interest on FR that I thought the "rebuttal" from the UN deserved a little bandwidth. Your replies are spot on.

$100,000 from a hundred different countries. WOW, let's see . . . . that makes . . . $1,000 per country.
Gee thanks U.N. for your overwhelming global support.

Here's a picture of Shashi:

While I was looking for it, I found a page with the pictures and bios for Koffi Annan's entire "cabinet" at: http://www.un.org/News/ossg/sg/pages/seniorstaff.html. Ever wonder where Carol Bellamy the really irritating former president of the New York City Council went? Yep, she's in Kofi's cabinet with all the other dweebs sucking up US tax dollars.

UN Delegate ( rubbing hands together ) " Oh dear ! Oh dear! This is most unsettling ! I am so upset at this disturbance of my routines, I shall be forced to...to...refer this matter to Committee ! "
