FLY SAFE - CHOICE BETWEEN "2ND AMENDMENT AIRLINE" OR "FAA GUN FREE KILING ZONE AIRLINE"

Gun Control and the WTC Tragedy

by Dan Mahony

The destruction of the WTC .....

Hot air-filled politicians and moronic teleprompter-reading TV pundits are now beating the war drums. Their propaganda and thoughtless blather may start an almost unimaginable round of attack, counter attack, and escalation that could eventually lead to nuclear and biological Armageddon. When the time comes, it will be interesting to see how many members of these two odious groups will be in the first wave of assault troops parachuting into Afghanistan.

Instead let me make a simple suggestion that may have eliminated the murderous hijackings in the first place.

The second amendment to the US Constitution did not give, it only recognized the preexisting and inalienable right of a free people to keep and bear arms. George Washington of late memory said in his first address to Congress "no man should scruple or hesitate for a moment to use arms in defense." On Tuesday the federal government - against reason, law and history - actively disarmed every innocent citizen before they boarded the four doomed planes.

No one alive in 1970 could imagine a planeload of ......

For thirty years closet totalitarians like Senator Hilary Clinton and Senator Chuckie Schumer have worked tirelessly to disarm the US population. Well-financed and unending propaganda has convinced many sensitive moderns that abandonment of any right to personal self-defense is the natural state of man.

Both of our NY Senators travel in armored cars with multiple well-armed guards ready to protect them. Look at what they do and not what they say. What is it that they know about their own personal safety that they do not profess in public and what special privilege are these worthies unwilling to share with ordinary citizens?

What is to be done? I propose the following easy and wholly voluntary experiment. Airlines should be allowed to offer two separate types of flights-"Second Amendment Right-to-Carry Flights" and "Weapons-Free Flights".

"Right-to-Carry" flights would not require carry on baggage inspection or intrusive and clumsy metal detectors at the gate. Citizens using these flights could drive to the airport swiftly embark and fly off.

Money thus saved would pay for the delay, sophisticated equipment, personnel and extra holding rooms needed to do full body searches on everyone flying on the "Weapons-Free Flights". This money would also pay for special government certificates issued to each of these passengers stating that they are, in fact, on a weapons-free flight.

Citizens can freely choose their flight of choice.

True to form the bureaucrats are already suggesting even more draconian schemes to disarm free Americans. I heard the improbably named Joseph Lawless, Public Safety Director of the Boston MPA, say that he wants to outlaw even plastic knives in the airport commissaries. Is this jackass for real or did I accidentally surf into some sick Comedy Central skit?

Instead we should return to our roots and allow any of our 280 million fellow Americans who wish to protect themselves to exercise their constitutional right do so. I would feel safer and somehow I feel most of the victims of the WTC tragedy would agree

Regardless of which flight I'd pick, the feds have no right to tell the airlines they can't offer us that choice if they think it'd be good for business.

You are absolutely right. Our gun laws are so restrictive they actually facilitate the creation of targets for terrorism. We need to be writing our state legislators, congresspersons, the President and newspapers and telling them that. Perhaps pointing out that now that we know what it feels like to be citizens of Israel, we should be looking at the gun laws they have in response to the very real dangers they face (e.g., wide-spread carrying of concealed weapons, people with assault weapons {including large cap. magazines} at home, even full automatic weapons handy as terrorist violence can break out at any time).

The government is saying this war will be fought, from time to time, among us. WE are the target. Does the government really mean we should be protected. Because if it does, then our gun laws need a complete overhaul.

The hijackers picked the airlines because they knew that once on board it would be a matter of physically overpowering the crew. No armed person was going to stop them. Now we will adopt the Israeli practices for cockpit doors and sky marshalls; perhaps even arm pilots. So, terrorists won't be able to hijack airliners again. However, they'll look for other targets, for sure. Let's see where those might be....

Our gun laws prohibit guns within a thousand feet of schools (except for people who live within a thousand feet or people driving by with guns unloaded and locked up). Can you imagine a juicier target than, say, a few hundred kiddies who could be mowed down by a terrorist cell willing to die? The Israelis arm teachers. Neighbors and passersby are armed. What about playgrounds? Scout meetings? Boy's and Girls Clubs? etc. etc.

What if armed citizens did have occasion to confront terrorists. We don't know where or when it might happen, but the Government seems to think it will. What we do know is that the terrorists would certainly not be constrained by restrictions on so called assault weapons. Nor on limitations on fully automatic weapons. Unlike the Israelis, our access to modern fully automatic weapons was effectively curtailed in 1986, despite there not having been any adverse effects from the prior system of access under close control. So, the citizen confronts a terrorist with ol' betsy, his double-barrel?

High profile government buildings are protected by armed guards, plus many legislators have carry permits and/or assigned security. These measure are sure to be increased, and the Homeland Defense Dept. will see to it that refineries, chemical plants, water supplies, nuclear plants, etc. are protected. So, where will the next targets be? We will be the targets. Anywhere there are a bunch of us.

Shouldn't the citizens of a country whose Attorney General says the Second Amendment of the Constitution guarantees us the right to keep and bear arms be free to arm themselves realistically for the situation we now face --- which is that we are in a war zone?

Of course they will seek other methods and other targets (see my longer post). But they won't be using airliners to crash into skyscrapers, stadiums, etc. So, the ol' S&W will have saved lives.

CNNs poll for the day (we don't even need to Freep this) asks whether pilots should be armed. Over 50,000 mostly liberal CNN visitors have voted and over 70% agree that pilots should be armed. Today there was a pro-America rally at Berkley. Geraldo Rivera said that he's glad George Bush is President, Barbra Streisand is going to put politics on the back burner, and Marty Meehan found Jesus. Are we still on planet Earth?

I was reading a gun rights manual today and it mentioned that you should leave the testostrone at home when packing your weapon. I suggest you take this to heart while you ponder how a gun will stop a bomb.
Or if you'll let a crazied individual on the plane that can probably cap 3-5 people before you come blazing in with your gun. Face facts: you'll never be able to stop a crazy with a gun before he kills several people. Without the gun he can probably just stab some people.

You certainly can question it without being flamed, but, your flippant, and ignorant response combined with your 1 day membership earned you the response you got.
My ignorant response? I questioned what good a gun will do against a bomb that can't be found as he doesn't want to have a security checkpoint.
And I highly doubt that the average gun owner can fire straight w/o killing innocents on the plane. Hell I doubt that the average gun owner can hit a target at 10 yards. Would be carnage on that plane.
