I have seen people go out of their way to say this is not a war with Islam. I am beginning to think it is exactly that.

Jeeez, is this for REAL? Our hand wringing media, and government, have been tripping over themselves to assure us that we are not up against institutionalized Muslim hatred. Only individual terrorist training camps, not aligned with any religion.

Presently these schools are the only ones teaching anything to the underclasses in Pakistan. Those countries need schools which truly educate the young so the next generation will not be totally warped. If we want to have any presence in this part of the world at all [hint: oil, geopolitics] we are going to have to offset the influence of these schools. I also think Voice of America programs which will offset the influence of fundamentalists, and possibly point out how fundamentalists "hijack" Islam, will be a good way to go.

Robert Kaplan who wrote the link on the Taliban I've cited elsewhere quite accurately points out that in illiterate societies, wild rumors and hearsay are far more likely to be believed than when people have some ability to read, write and think on their own.
