Saudis air base blow for US

Breaking News

The Saudi Arabian Government has ruled out the use of bases on its territory for American-led strikes against Afghanistan's ruling Taleban.

"We do not accept the presence in our country of a single solider at war with Muslims or Arabs," Saudi Defence Minister Prince Sultan was quoted as saying in a government-run newspaper on Sunday.

The prince dismissed as nonsense reports that Saudi authorities would allow Washington to use its bases to attack Afghanistan.

However, he did say Saudi airspace could still be used as his country's contribution.

The BBC Middle East correspondent says this implies that America planes could fly over Saudi Arabia in their operations.

Our correspondent says the Saudi Government appears to have bowed to the sensitivies of its Muslim population and refused to have any part in the expected western action.

On Friday, President George W Bush said he was "most pleased" with the co-operation the US was getting from countries in the Middle East for its global campaign against terrorism.

That was seen as confirmation that Saudi Arabia had decided to allow US forces to make use of a vital command centre launch at a military base outside Riyadh.

How conveniently they forget the Gulf War.

Something that bothers me with the Muslims countries, they will be your BEST FRIEND when it comes to saving their a$$es, but when push comes to shove, forget it, and its not thiers that is on the line, forget it.

Koran, Medina Suras, The Chapter of Women:

But if there befalls you grace from God, he would say—as though there were no friendship between you and him—‘O would that I had been with thee to attain this mighty happiness!’ Let those then fight in God’s way who sell this life of the world for the next; and whoso fights in God’s way, then, be he killed or be he victorious, we will give him a mighty hire.

What ails you that ye do not fight in God’s way, and for the weak men and women and children, who say, ‘Lord, bring us out of this town 19 of oppressive folk, and make for us from Thee a patron, and make for us from Thee a help?’

Those who believe fight in the way of God; and those who disbelieve fight in the way of Tâghût; fight ye then against the friends of Satan, verily, Satan’s tricks are weak.

Do ye not see those to whom it is said, ‘Restrain your hands, and be steadfast in prayer and give alms;’ and when it is prescribed for them to fight then a band of them fear men, as though it were the fear of God or a still stronger fear, and they say, ‘O our Lord! why hast thou prescribed for us to fight, couldst thou not let us abide till our near appointed time?’ Say, ‘The enjoyment of this world is but slight, and the next is better for him who fears;’—but they shall not be wronged a straw.

...

Why are ye two parties about the hypocrites, when God hath overturned them for what they earned? Do ye wish to guide those whom God hath led astray? Whoso God hath led astray ye shall not surely find for him a path. They would fain that ye misbelieve as they misbelieve, that ye might be alike; take ye not patrons from among them until they too flee in God’s way; but if they turn their backs, then seize them and kill them wheresoever ye find them, and take from them neither patron nor help,—save those who reach a people betwixt whom and you is an alliance—or who come to you while their bosoms prevent them from fighting you or fighting their own people. But had God pleased He would have given you dominion over them, and they would surely have fought you. But if they retire from you and do not fight you, and offer you peace,—then God hath given you no way against them.

Ye will find others who seek for quarter from you, and quarter from their own people; whenever they return to sedition they shall be overturned therein: but if they retire not from you, nor offer you peace, nor restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wheresoever ye find them;—over these we have made for you manifest power.

And yet, we will continue to aid them. Unbelievable.

Fine, let's withdraw all our military from UAE and tell Saddam he'll have no meaningful resistance.

Can't do that? Oh, forgot. The oil.

Does anybody with a brain still think we shouldn't drill in ANWR, the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast in California, in Lake Michigan, in my back yard?

You are either with us or against us...

Considering that many of the terrorists are from Saudi Arabia; it has become increasingly clear with whom the hypocritical Saudis favour.

I love our "allies" that are with us all the way, if they do not have to get their hands dirty and IF we win. Love them to death.

Don't be surprised to see Prince Sultan reverse himself in a week or so. But don't be fooled by it either.

It's a longstanding Arab technique to speak with two voices: one for the street and one for the so-called international community. The street feels molified because they assume that the voice they hear is true, and that the one for the international community is based only in fear and need. In other words, no matter what Prince Sultan does from here on out, he has already given tacit support to the terrorists and fundamentalists.

Are these really the kind of allies we want?

You would think that the threat of zeroing out their bank accounts would make their heads spin. The Saudi's must own near about 10% of U.S. capitalizatin by now.

It's a Muslim thang. I am so tired of catering to the sensitivities of the peace-loving terrorist Muslim states.

I'm pretty sure that I heard CNN's Wolf Blizter say earlier this morning that there was an "issue" with the translation to English of the statemnet by the Saudi DM.

You may say in your heart, 'These nations outnumber me; how shall I be able to dispossess them?' Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God dealt with Pharaoh and all Egypt, the great ordeals your own eyes have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm with which Yahweh your God has brought you out. So will Yahweh your God deal with all the peoples whom you fear to face. And what is more, Yahweh your God will send hornets to destroy those who remain and hide from you.

Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a God who is great and terrible. Little by little Yahweh your God will destroy these nations before you; you will not be able to make an end of them at once, or the wild beasts would grow too many for you. But Yahweh your God will deliver them over to you and will harass them until they are destroyed. He will deliver their kings into your hands and you will blot out their names from under heaven; none shall withstand you, until you have destroyed them all.

What you said here was confirmed on "This Week" this morning. The Saudi Ambassador said that the US had not specifically asked the Saudis to use their air bases, and that Prince Sultan was just speaking hypothetically. The ambassador was dripping with US support.

Time will tell.

Fine, then we in America no longer accept our responsiblity to protect you from Saddam's armies and chemical weapons.

Time to ignore liberal PC and democrat enviro wacko policy, drill for our own oil, and tell the Middle East oil sheiks to sell it to Europe. When the oil glut hits, the little sheiks will have a different tune. With the father in Legends Of The Fall I say, "Screw 'um!" We've been at their mercy because the democrats wanted to play politics over oil, so now we do what is right for this nation, and drop the oil fiefdoms on their naked asses ... they love Saddam and Osama so much, let them embrace him openly. Enough with the two-faced bullsh!t already. Let them embrace the terrorists openly instead of funding them in secret ... when the threat rises to sufficieint pitch, the nuked oil will be useless, then they can eat the crude they can dig out of the sand with their treacherous hands!

You know that's not going to happen. We protect Saudi Arabia because of our own interests, not theirs.

What gets me is the outright blatant lies being told by Sec'y Powell and others about Saudi cooperation.

Do they not know there are countless sources now in the new uncontrolled media contradicting everything they say?

The weight of evidence is overwhelmingly on the side of believing that the power centers in Saudi Arabia are "with the terrorists."

It's pretty amazing. It is as if the U.S. administration has absolutely no regard for the truth. I actually thought that mindset was going to end with the exit of the previous administration.
