Ten rules of a gunfight
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two.
2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice.
3. Only hits count.
4. If your shooting stance is good you 're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.
5. Keep shooting until the threat no longer exists; then stay sharp until somebody with a badge tells you to freeze.
6. If you can choose what to bring to a gun fight, bring a long gun and a friend.
7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of calibre, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
8. If you are not shooting you should be reloading or running.
9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependant on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun.
10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty

11. Shoot first, ask questions later

12. Never bring a rock to a gunfight.

12. A .38 beats a Royal Flush every time.
13. Nothing says "love" like a .45
14. An armed hostage is no longer a hostage
15. An unloaded gun isn't a gun. It's a weighted object for throwing.
16. When shooting to defend your life, accuracy is less important than volume of fire. A person who checks results after the first shot is usually pronounced dead.

Yeah, a stick wouldn't be a very good idea either.

"Anything to add?"
Yea, a couple.
Pray that you never have to use it in anger, but if you need to, you will.
Carry a large enough caliber so it will stop them cold, prefering quality over quantity. (I don't expect a running gun battle, so I only carry five rounds - five very large rounds).

Anything to add? Sorry to butt in, but I have something to add. Never ever rely on or wait for someone with a badge, your survival, like your salvation is your own responsibility.

11. It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I love this part of their ad :
The Rigel 4100 night vision rifle scope features an extra light weight design for ease of use and enhanced resolution making it easier to
hit elusive moving targets at night-time.
Yeah baby!

An old timer who had actually been in a gun fight or two told me the secret: Before you draw, make up your mind you are going to shoot, and you are going to shoot to kill. If you can't do that, don't draw. Knowing what you are going to do will give you an edge over the other guy who would have fired by then if he had HIS mind made up.
If you are involved with one perp and another jumps up and says, "Don't shoot!", shoot them both.
Tough talk, and I wonder how I'd react - which is why I'd better avoid gunfights - but my friend was still alive.

Here's one I've always liked. I'm unsure as to whom this quote is attributed; it could be Colonel Jeff Cooper:
"A pistol is something you use to fight your way back to the rifle that you stupidly left behind."
