Girl, 3, chained by dad for days

MONROE -- Police said a local man left his 3-year-old daughter chained to a 25-pound bucket of dog food for several days because she "sneaked" a piece of bread.

Carl Corbett, 24, of Main Street, was charged Tuesday with risk of injury to a minor and second-degree unlawful restraint.

Corbett was himself in chains a few hours later as he was brought before Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Bozzuto in Bridgeport.

After reviewing the case file, the judge ordered Corbett held in lieu of $250,000 bond and continued the case for arraignment on Oct. 18.

If convicted of the charges, he could face 10 years in prison.

Corbett, a stocky man with a connecting mustache and beard, had no comment as he was led out of the courtroom by marshals.

Police said he admitted chaining his daughter to the bucket after she ate some bread, and that she remained that way for several days as a punishment. He also allegedly shaved her head.

A social worker for the state Department of Children and Families told police the little girl had bruises from her ordeal.

The girl and Corbett's two other children, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, are in the custody of their mother, who was not living with Corbett, said Assistant State's Attorney Judy Stevens, of the State's Attorney's Office's Domestic Violence Division.

Police said Corbett, who was recently discharged from the U.S. Army, had been taking care of the three children for the summer in his Monroe home.

The children complained to their mother that Corbett had been abusing them and she called DCF, police said. They said the young girl had been hungry and opened a bag containing a loaf of bread and ate a slice.

When Corbett found out that she ate the bread, he allegedly tied a piece of it around her neck and ordered the other children to yell at her. He punished the older children for not watching the younger girl by forcing them to do calisthenics all night, police said.

Corbett then chained the younger girl into a harness and tied it to the bucket of dog food, police said.

The other children reported that they had to drag the bucket so their younger sister could go to the bathroom.

Police said Corbett, who was unemployed, apparently sat playing video games with a friend while the other children struggled to help their sibling.

Police said they interviewed the friend, who acknowledged seeing the little girl tied to the bucket.

When confronted by police, Corbett allegedly admitted to chaining his daughter to the bucket of dog food. He said "because they were planning to move, they kept the food to a minimum and when she dropped the bread there was no bread for everyone else," police said.

I hope this motherf***er spends every minute of ten years in jail, and that he gets gang raped at least once a day. I hope he dies in the last encounter, and has to spend eternity in hell chewing on Atta's netherparts.

As the father of a 3-year old, words express my outrage at this inhuman monster.

Like with bin Laden, Americans should not hesitate to call acts like this evil.

Okay, time for all the human refuse who have spent so much time on FR defending the Christines to weigh in.

Isn't it obvious to those people that this was all a "put up job"? I mean, who hasn't punished a child for disobedience?

(REMEMBER: These are the people who, when confronted with the FACT that the Christine children were hospitalized for malnutrition and dehydration, reply "Well, weren't you ever been sent to bed without supper when you were a child?")

I can accept punishment for disobedience, but this is child abuse and evil.

Which is to say, sometimes Child Protective Services is correct. Imagine that. 'Course, to admit that fact makes it a lot more difficult to be anti-authority....

"The girl and Corbett's two other children, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, --Carl Corbett, 24"

Sadder still is that Carl started procreating at the age of 14!!!

I can't find the word "Christine" anywhere in this article. Nor can I find any reference to "Christine" via FRsearch. What are you talking about?

Let's not forget the "friend" who witnessed this. He or she needs to pay for watching.

It's morons such as this that are invariably used to justify snatching children away when parents dare conduct themselves contrary to liberal sensibilities (an oxymoron, for sure).

That's the couple that were living in the motor home, stopping from time to time to run their "web-based business" using public library computer facilities.

They were investigated during a stop in Oregon when someone reported they had some kids that "looked sick." Turned out that the Christines had this cute little practice where they withheld food and water from their children as "discipline."

The three little girls were hospitalized for about a week, and then taken by the Oregon CPS. The Christines fought it for about a year or so, claiming to be "persecuted Christian fundamentalists". They had a lot of popular support at first, but soon many of their original supporters became disenchanted with them when they began to realize they were just whackos who were enjoying the notoriety.

Finally, they tried to take the girls back at gunpoint during a supervised visitation, but were reapprehended in Montana.

From time to time some sickos here on FR post "Support The Christines!" threads here, full of lies and insinuations of government corruption that can't be proved.

One thing they continue to insinuate is that the girls are victims of some sort of "adoption scam" run by the Oregon CPS. They fail to mention that the girls ARE being adopted--by the parents of Mrs. Christine, who live in England.

No, they question whether a gas station attendant suggesting that a child "looked dehydrated" is sufficient to take the children into custody and whether the condition of the children actually justified hospitalization. Yes, it might be possible that the children were dehydrated but the reaction was fascistic.

AND he is unemployed
AND he spends all day playing computer games
AND he doesn't have enough food to feed his family
AND the dog has more food than his kids
AND he is a single parent
AND I bet he lives off welfare

This guy is such a loser.

I believe Demidog will be showing up on this thread sometime soon stating that like Orgeon, Conneticut also has Child Protection Workers operating 'adoption scams.' No doubt, a "Free Corbett" thread will start...and lets be honest, if Corbett's attorney has any sense at all, he can claim that 'dad' was homeschooling the kiddies and the that the big bad 'state' was interferring...yadayadayada. If they play their cards right a defense fund will even be started.

WHAT did he possibly say in the interview??? "Yeah sure I saw her tied to the bucket and I thought it was a little strange but I was doing so good in Supermario..."

Hopefully they interviewed him from his jail cell as well.

Oh, and also, Demi will already have the preliminary hearing transcripts, which he stayed up all night and indexed with yellow and pink highlighters.
