Veep's Wife: Don't Blame U.S. Society for Terrorism

new emphasis on multicultural education in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks would wrongly suggest they were caused by American insensitivity to Islam, said Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife.

Cheney was reacting to comments by city Board of Education Deputy Chancellor Judith Rizzo, who was quoted last month as saying more "habits of tolerance, knowledge and awareness of other cultures" should be taught.

"Those people who said we don't need multiculturalism, that it's too touchy-feely, a pox on them. I think they've learned their lesson," Rizzo said in the Washington Post.

But in comments prepared for a talk at the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture yesterday, Cheney said, "To say that it is more important now implies that the events of Sept. 11 were our fault, that it was our failure to understand Islam that led to so many deaths and so much destruction."

Cheney said that on the day of the attacks, "It was most manifestly not the United States that acted out of religious prejudice."

Cheney agreed that it is useful for children to study global cultures, but also encouraged a stronger focus on American studies.

"Let me suggest that if there is a failure here, it is lack of commitment to this nation's history," Cheney said.

The Board of Education declined to comment on Cheney's remarks.

At a news conference on school security and diversity in Albany, state Education Commissioner Richard Mills stayed neutral when asked about Cheney's views.

"It is vitally important to have a rigorous curriculum in American history. It's also vitally important to have a rigorous curriculum in global studies," he said.

There is beginning to appear to be a connection between the intolerance of socialism and terrorism. We might find a fifth column besides the Muslim faction at work in our country.

Lynn Cheney is speaking the truth; using social engineering in our public schools has left generations of uneducated people. Political correctness has re-written American History to make people feel good and has at the same time distorted the facts. Mrs. Cheney without saying so is trying to point out what Hillary Clinton declaratively refers to as her way, The Third Way along with other progressive socialists in congress, the senate, the DSA and the many radical academics who support/love The Third Way, which should read The Failed Way. As it failed Hitler, Stalin and other notable dictators throughout history. The United Nations wants to be the The Third Way leader and it is fighting hard to obtain it as not all Third Way advocates agree what the agenda should be.

Never ever forget we are a Sovereign Nation because of our Constitution, the most envied document in the world among free people. The Third Way people consider the Constitution an old tired piece of paper. But what can you expect, most graduated from the dumbed down halls of ivy with radical activists for professors...many who never held a real job in their lives or ever left the ivory tower's of their youth. AND these impractical and short-sighted and irresponsible people have TENURE! A pox on them all!!
