THE FBI believes that an Irishman is connected with last month's terrorist attacks in the US.
The suspect, named Farid Arakgui, was born in Dublin in July or August 1962, but now lives in Florida, according to their confidential data.
His name was one of 370 which have been circulated to intelligence services, financial watchdogs and aviation authorities across Europe.
They are frenetically trying to trace all financial transactions of those listed and believe it will help create leads to the international web of terrorists connected with the attacks.
The FBI compiled the extensive list with the assistance of European intelligence agencies.
This list has now been distributed to the Irish Central Bank and their counterparts throughout the EU in the hope of tracking down further information on the location of those named.
Arakgui (39), also known as Freddi Arakgui and Farid Jean Arakgui, is believed to live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It is believed that he has not been arrested or charged with any crime connected with the twin attacks in New York and Washington on September 11.
While most of those named were born in the Middle East, Mr Arakgui's place of birth is listed as "Dublin, Ireland".
The US authorities hope that by following the financial connections of these individuals they can close off funding to terrorists and also uncover evidence connecting Osama bin Laden and others to atrocities.
No other Irish-born person was listed by the FBI, while very few non-Arab nationals are named. Some, however, are currently residing in other European cities, though it is not believed anyone on this file has an Irish address.
Senior garda anti-terrorist officers said last night that Arakgui was unknown to them and was not on a list of suspected sympathisers or groups linked here to Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'ida organisation.
Earlier this week, Justice Minister John O'Donoghue said that no evidence had yet emerged connecting Ireland to the US attacks.

The Spanish Armada sailed out of LaCoruna, Espana in 1588. The Moors had long since been routed, and forcibly expelled from Spain.

The suspect, named Farid Arakgui, was born in Dublin Unless his name is Tommy O'Arakgui, I don't thinks he's a true Irishman either! The newspaper should have put it as "Foreigner Born Here..."
To: aculeus
Would he be anything to O'Sullivan-bin-liner? The guy who takes out our trash? Seriously though, this guy may have been born here, but he's no ``republican'', if ye catch my drift. Éire abú!!!!

Irish Bump...Arakgui hmmmmmmm don't thinks he's Celtic. Although we don't know who is mother is...Of course there are people of all races, creed and colors living in the world today with Irish last names that aren't Irish either. But if Arakgui is an Irish born citizen and he was involved in the terrorist attack on 9/11 the Americans of Irish descent living in Florida have ways of dealing with Mr. Arakgui.

The IRA and miltant islam have a long history of money, supplies and training. According to a Celtic history book I once read, the Celts orginated in the Balkans. The were rather ferocious but kept losing to other tribes and kept retreating westward, ending up in Ireland (with some left behind in Brittany).
