Attack Helicopter Available On eBay
Bidding Begins At $800,000 For Gulf War Item
An attack helicopter used during the Gulf War is up for sale on eBay.

There is an opening minimum bid requirement of $800,000.

The Bell Cobra helicopter was used by the U.S. Army and comes equipped with a 20-millimeter cannon and two rocket pods.

No munitions are included and the armament is said to be nonfunctional.

eBay spokesman Kevin Pursglove confirms that two federal government agencies have inquired about how the item came to be for sale on eBay -- but they have not requested it be removed.

Description
COBRA Attack Helicopter (AH-1F) REAL THING!
Vehicle Description

Flying and ready to GO! It's an impressive aircraft in many ways. Very low time since a total refurbish (see details below).
Not a toy but a REAL Bell Helicopter COBRA, a two passenger rotor aircraft of legendary proportions!
Certified by the FAA for private operation.

Vehicle Condition

No Known Problems.

Comes with a 20mm canon, 9 shot and 19 shot rocket pods (non-functional, for appearance sake only) No Munitions and Non-Functional Armament.
Subject to U.S. State Department O.D.T.C. approval for overseas delivery. Can be sold anywhere in the U.S..
We can use a certified escrow agency in Oklahoma City to accomodate appropriate transfer of ownership as may be required.

Terms of Sale

Yes! This is a REAL Bell Helicopter Cobra. It was formerly operated by the U.S. Army, and saw service in Desert Storm.

It is fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and has a current air worthiness certificate. It's tail number is N9FX.
It is privately held and operates presently in the General Aviation 'experimental' class.
When this aircraft sold new it had an acquisition cost of nearly

$9,000,000.00 USD.
It is still one of the best performing rotor craft flying, with a formidable rate of climb and top speed of 191 kts.
It's rated for aerobatic maneuvers too! An incredible performer.
Full details, specifications, and operation spread sheet available upon request.
This aircraft is being offered for sale through this auction listing. If you've always wanted to own your own attack helicopter, like a Cobra, then this is probably the only opportunity you'll ever have.
This great aircraft has 49 hours of operation since major overhaul (SMOH). All major components are either new or yellow tag. She flies like a charm and is a BLAST to maneuver! [Folks, there's just no other way to say it- this is a triple E ticket ride!]
Please don't bother to contact us asking how it came to be an aircraft of this type ended up in private hands.
Although an important part of it's 'story', we feel it's better to concentrate on selling it than talking about it.
Everything you need to know about the aircraft is contained within this page (and through available suportive literature we will provide for qualified bidders).
These are current photos, as well as some archive shots, of this aircraft (not a different aircraft, but the very one we are selling at auction).
This isn't a model, a radio controlled aircraft, or some other twist of the truth- it is, and shall always be, the most recognizable profile for air power. It's available now, for sale to the highest bidder.
To bid on this aircraft we are opening it to ONLY 'pre-approved' bidders.
To become approved you need to contact us directly through an email.
In that message you must give us your full name, address, telephone number and best time to call.
We will contact you in relatively short order to pre-qualify you for becoming approved.
After a brief conversation it can easily be determined if our mutual goal is to make an exchange- your money for our aircraft.
We don’t need a bank statement, or a letter from your accountant saying it's okay to let you bid- but we must have legitimate buyers bidding on it only.
If you want to see the aircraft it can be shown with a short notice.
You can bring in an expert to assess the aircraft. Consider it a pre-delivery inspection!

You can even have a test flight!

This is all about high performance rotor flight, and the potential to own it for yourself.

We are willing and eager to provide legitimate bidders with every opportunity to have full access to the aircraft for their discovery purposes.
This includes review of the log books and direct contact with the person most responsible for the current condition of it. (He knows every rivet by name!)
For the serious buyer we are willing to bend over backwards to present the aircraft in all it's glory, with every detail explained and supported through copious documentation.
Pre-approved bidders must subscribe to the condition that bidding increments will be in $10,000.00 USD increments. No $100.00 steps because you just WON'T get there to the reserve price that way. If you are serious about buying this kind of aircraft you must know what it is worth. We're serious about seling it!
Granted, there's no previous history in the private sector of a Cobra sale, but the sum of the parts is equal to much more than penny steps in bidding. I'm confident serious bidders will see it this way too.
We strongly believe an ultimate sale price should exceed $1,000,000.00 USD. That's ONE MILLION DOLLARS U.S.. If you don't have it, can't get it, and only wish you did, don't waste your time, or ours, toying with this auction. It's just not going to happen, no sense pretending (okay?)
We've set the opening bid at $800,000.00, just shy of our reserve price. While some may feel it is prohibitive, this is a REAL number an aircraft like this should bring.
We reserve the right to buy the aircraft back after ninty days at the selling price. This contingency will be in our purchase contract. Bid on it, win it, and then fly it for ninty days FREE (if we take the option to buy it back in ninty days!)
Such a deal!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BIDDING!!

Sure, but I'm a bit wary of going into anything with an Aggie. :-)

Can it fly?

Maybe.

Does it have the guns?

Unlikely, but possible.

Do the guns actually fire?

Wouldn't bet on it.

Would it make an awesome commuter vehicle?

Ohhh, BABY!

An attack helicopter that can't attack!? That's no fun. I guess I'll hold out until a somebody puts a Bradley APC on there.

That's fine, Texaggie79. I get it on weekends and you can use it for commuting on workdays! (Checking out the eBay seller's other recent auctions, most go for $5 to $91.)

Hmm. An AH-1F is an earlier single-engine model, I thought the Marines and Army both had gone to the twin-engined Super Cobra models before 1990. I wonder if this wasn't a foreign-operated aircraft, one of the Arab coalition states that supported us, maybe?

It'd be damn cool to have parked in the driveway, though...

The Army never operated the twin engined Cobra. The Marines and the Israelis, maybe some others, operate the twin. The Army is retiring or has already retired all of their Cobras but the Marines will upgrade most of their AH-1W's to Z's and continue operating them into the 2030's.
