WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI on Sunday asked law enforcement agencies across the United States to operate at the highest possible state of alert for ``any act of terrorism or violence'' domestically following the beginning of military strikes inside Afghanistan.
``Coinciding with today's military action, the FBI ... has again requested all law enforcement to be at the highest level of vigilance and be prepared to respond to any act of terrorism or violence should it become necessary,'' the FBI said in a statement.
``Further, all law enforcement agencies have been asked to evaluate whether additional local security measures are warranted in light of the military operations and the current threat level,'' the agency added.
The U.S. and British strikes on targets in Afghanistan came in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington.

Powdered chad?

Yes. I live in Miami and can confirm that this report is true. Apparantly, yesterday one of the residents picked up his mail and found a manila envelope addressed to him. He opened it inside his home and a white powder came out of the envelope. Shortly thereafter, he and three others in the home were taken to the hospital with high fevers. The home has been cordoned off by the FBI and local police. They are in the process of finding out what substance it was.

I clicked on a link "5 hospitalized in Florida" on a Cleveland news site, but it ended up being a bad link, haven't seen anything else anywhere!

Anyone know anything more? Another "isolated incident." That's why the buildings and people have been "isolated" (=quarantined).

On this past Friday, one of my coworkers informed us that one of her reservist relatives was called up for duty in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area. Her reservist relative informed her that at some cleaners in the Dallas, Ft Worth area that specialized in the cleaning of our military, police, and fireman's uniforms, has suddenly had alot of the uniforms missing. Has anyone in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area heard anything about this?

I'm not quite sure this information fits into the histeria of everything but I have something to add. I am proficient in reading portuguese. I was monitoring some brazilian message boards this afternoon to gage world reaction. I stumbled on a board that had quite a few Arab-Brazilians and obviously you could gauge their reaction. But out of the blue, there was this one message with an anonymous address that had no emotion in it. The words where chilling, "As we speak, there are some operatives dumping 10kg of Anthrax throughout L.A. area. They are hoping that within days, 80,000 will sucumb to the virus". Someone responded by asking how does this poster have this information? Response: Al-Quaeda (sp). I guess with everything going on, it could be just someone pulling everyone's leg, but the message had no evidence of rhetoric like all of the other messages. It was cold and calculated and was wanting to take credit...I thought about passing this on to the FBI for monitoring, but I'm worried about having my leg pulled on this one. Am I being too wrapped up in all of this????

We must not let fear control our lives if we do then that freak Osama has won. However, we can and we must be vigilant.

Of course, you should tell the FBI. Let them decide whether it's a joke or fake, or what.
To: Maringa
By all means contact the FBI. Best to let them assess the validity of the information - that's their job, not yours.

Clearly, great minds really do think alike.

If you are serious that you read that post ... then Why wouldn't you call the FBI. Either you are evil for trying to pull my leg, or you are silly to not call the FBI> Higest state of vigilance please.

PLEASE GIVE US THE LINK....OR AT LEAST ME.....I will alert the FBI ASAP.

if you do not know where it is, look at your history folder for this afternoon and find it!
