Bomb squad called to probe a package at Brady's office
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | October 9, 2001 | Thomas J. Gibbons Jr.

Philadelphia authorities late last night shut down two blocks of South Broad Street to allow the bomb squad and a hazardous-material team to examine a mysterious white powder found inside a package that had been mailed to U.S. Rep. Bob Brady's South Philadelphia district office.

The two blocks on either side of the Democratic congressman's office at 1907 S. Broad were closed as a precaution shortly after 10 p.m. and remained closed early this morning.

Authorities said the powder was in a package that had arrived at Brady's district office Friday.

Sometime last night, after news reports surfaced of an FBI investigation into two cases of anthrax contamination in Florida, authorities were contacted, police said, triggering the massive response from police, fire and Health Department officials.

Officials said Brady was not in Philadelphia last night.

If this or any of the other cases turn out to be a deliberate planned and coordinated bioterrorist attack, we have all the justification for the use of any weapon in our arsenal toward states sponsoring terrorism. And Iraq, Syria, Somalia, and Libya, that means you.

We already have approximately 6000 reasons to justify the use of any weapon in our arsenal.

Anything unusual about Brady that would single him out?

I'm aware of Kentucky mailing to IRS with white powder and of an AP report from Miami/Ft. Lauderdale of seemingly random individuals gettting these packages in the mail. (I posted the Miami one on Sunday/Monday on FR). Anyway, I'm looking for a pattern. IRS would be logical place to send dish soap by any number of people, but I think we've got to be very careful about how this is handled.

Its necessary to separate copycats from real terrorist actions.

Here's what I posted on another thread to someone who said she hardly ever receives mail but had received unmarked (no return address) mail with a Kissimmee, FLA postmark at work, which she had thrown into the wastebasket:

URGENT - pick them up out of the trash (cover your hands with a papertowel or a plastic garbage liner bag) and set them aside in a safe place and contact the FBI IMMEDIATELY!

Treat these envelopes like what they are - potential evidence in the war on terrorism.

What separation would that be? These are equally despicable people even if they are not associated with Sept. 11th. What folly would it be to focus only on foreign terrorists when our own homegrown whackos could use that as cover to launch their own hideous misdeeds? We need to be vigilant with everyone and "tear them up" wherever and whomever they are...

Would it be considered a terrorist act or terrorist threat to send Sarah Brady and Timmy... errr Jim Brady an envelope of baby powder?

House.gov webpage of US Rep Bob Brady

The only relevant piece of information I can find is that he serves on the US House Committee on Armed Services (i.e. military funding oversight).

That's right. Terrorists everywhere would then be subject to five-day waiting periods on vials of anthrax...

I think our government agents better be getting in touch with direct mail list brokers and see if they have had any strange inquires lately. One of the selling points of direct mail lists is the ability to "target" your materials for the best response. Kind of takes on an eerie meaning in this context. For a few grand, I could get you a list of any type of individuals you wanted.

Not only that, but the guy that owns one of the largest, is an arab. He also donated lots of money to Clinton and to Gore. He also slept in the Lincoln bedroom.

I used to buy lists from this company until I learned who owned it (worth 100's of millions) and the liberals they supported. My screen name isn't boycott without a reason.

I don't trust any arab.
