Dear Fellow Americans,
As I think of the unspeakable terror that was perpetrated on our nation on September 11th my tears continue to well up. Those acts of terrorism, on that one day, took the lives of close to 7,000 people. Both Americans and foreigners died that day with thousands more injured.
I can't begin to describe the sorrow and outrage that we at Second Amendment Sisters share with our fellow Americans. The sense of shock is so overwhelming that the urge to step away from our cause is very tempting indeed. However, we would be stepping away from more than 30 years of opposing the misinformed proponents of gun control. We must continue this fight to make America a safer place, especially now, when self-defense of our country and ourselves is of utmost importance. All of us are in agreement that we want to keep our right to self-defense, in all forms, totally intact. We must be able to defend ourselves from the hands of criminals and would-be terrorists.
Fortunately, Congress and Attorney General Ashcroft are facing the reality that any terrorist, foreign or domestic, can walk into most public areas today and wreak havoc in a matter of seconds. It makes no sense to disarm Americans at a time when they are in urgent need of a firearm, the most effective tool of self-defense. America cannot afford to take any chances with its safety. Congress must assume it's responsibility to stand up for our dearly protected Freedoms, which so many Americans have willingly given their lives to defend.
The security of our country and enforcement of our laws dictates an end to the outrageous demands of those who would see Americans defenseless against all terrorists, whether foreign or domestic. We call on Congress and all State Legislatures to stop legislation that makes it harder for Americans to defend themselves and the Nation. We also demand the destruction of all records of gun sales and the cessation of registration of gun owners, as these could someday become a tool for terrorism. Retaining such records will allow those who would rob us of our rights to monitor all firearm purchases. Keeping these records beyond 48 hours amounts to a gun registry and it has been proven time and again, registration (inadvertent or mandated) leads to confiscation. We know it will take an enormous amount of precious time to stand firm and fight for your right of self-defense. It will take time when you are tired after a hard day of work, time that you would usually spend with your loved ones, and time that you could easily be spending doing any one of a thousand other things. It's going to take an army of dedicated grassroots activists willing to put in the time needed to remind the President, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Congress and the anti-rights people of the wisdom of our Founding Fathers. We have to constantly remind them all of those untold numbers of people who have given their lives willingly to defend our freedoms, our rights and our great country.
Blessedly, the Second Amendment Sisters, which spans the nation and is growing daily, sends the message that Americans, male or female, are standing up for our most basic of human rights, the right to self-defense.
Neither America nor Americans should be left defenseless. Our nation has already lost too many lives to terrorism. Not only have we lost the nearly 7,000 lives on September 11th but we also lose lives daily to criminals (domestic terrorists) because the basic human right to self-defense was taken away from them in the erroneous pursuit of public safety. The politicians and celebrities, who expound on the virtues of being unarmed, curiously hire their own armed security personnel! Never do these people, who are willing to disarm you, speak of the over 2 million times each year that guns are used to prevent crimes and save lives. WE DO!
If you will all join in our fight, together we can-and WILL- get the message to all Legislators that We The People are standing up to preserve our basic human right to self-defense.
Sincerely,
Maria Heil, National Spokesperson
