Body shop owner displays controversial sign
By Associated Press, 10/10/2001 09:55
STILLWATER, N.Y. (AP) A 47-year-old body shop owner has irked some of his neighbors by displaying a controversial sign on his property here, but town officials say the sign is legal.
Frank D'Aloia created the sign ''Foreigners Go Home'' after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and hung it on a fence next to an American flag near his automotive shop in Saratoga County.
D'Aloia said he refused a number of requests from residents to remove it. ''I'm not taking the sign down and I don't care who (complains),'' he told the Albany Times Union. ''Maybe I'm prejudiced, but I just think there's got to be a little more control in letting people into this country.''
Town offices said they received many calls condemning the sign but Supervisor Paul Lilac said the sign does not violate town zoning laws and can remain up.
''My personal position is I don't think it sends the right message, but Mr. D'Aloia has First Amendment privileges and I don't think that can be taken away from him,'' Lilac said. ''He's very emotional about it and he has the right to voice his opinion.''

With a last name like that of this shop owner, I would recommend he refine his message a bit.

The truth does hurt doesn't it. Those not here legally, foreigners should go home. Duh! What part of black and white do these loons not comprehend?

That pesky First Amendment thing again. I thought it only applied to PC lovers?

What makes you think Mr. D'Aloia is from a foreign country?

I think what he means is that those from other countries who are here illegally need to leave now. Unless you think he really means we most Americans should "go home" given our countries of origin.

Frank is smarter than the average American. Write your congress critters. Demand that all non citizen Muslims be deported NOW. This will make the FBI's job easier in watching the remaining ones. They may have to go to however.

Were I his neighbor, I'd hang a bigger sign, saying, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free." We'll see who's the better American.

That "huddled masses" thing was NOT written by the founding fathers, if I recall.

"Were I his neighbor, I'd hang a bigger sign, saying, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.""Yeah, and, if you did so, can you guess who's guest rooms would fill up faster with assorted junkies, winos, and hobos?

They may have to go to however. Who may have to go? It sounds like you're talking about American citizens.

That "huddled masses" thing was NOT written by the founding fathers, if I recall. Nor was "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!", but I liked it just the same.

I wonder what would have happened had the Cherokee Nation adopted this same policy?

Were I his neighbor, I'd hang a bigger sign, saying, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free." Yeah, then register them to vote.
