Cheerleaders with nothing to cheer about

CATASAUQUA, Pa. - The girls do a fake mount. There are no flips or stunts. They can’t even do a forward roll.
“We can stand there and cheer,” said Erin Brownell, a cheerleader. “That’s about it. It’s really hard, because we can’t move our feet off the ground. We just can stand there and try to be as loud as we can. But everyone doesn’t have the energy we used to have, because it’s just not fun.”
The team used to be competitors and champions. But just this May, the Colonial League, which oversees the athletics at 12 high schools in Lehigh and Northampton Counties, decided to ban all moves they thought they were dangerous for safety reasons.
The rules now say no pyramids, mounts, stunts, or any type of rolling/tumbling. Parents couldn’t believe it.
“Do you think there is any sporting league in the country that would tell a football team they can no longer tackle, or they can no longer have a passing game, or they can no longer rebound that basketball?” said Patty Hacker, a parent. “I don’t think so.”
The girls say they are athletes, and cheerleading is a sport. Cutting out their best moves cuts out their chances for college scholarships.
“It is the hard cheering,” said Colby Gair, a cheerleader. “It is doing that stuff, because we do so much condition for it just like football does conditioning for their games, and field hockey does conditioning for them. We run everyday. We do push ups. We do sit ups. All we do is condition, so we’re strong enough.”
They’re strong enough, they say, not to want to be pushed around. In all, more than 90 cheerleaders from 12 schools are suing the Colonial League.
“If you don’t get out there, and you don’t feel like, ‘wow, they’re going to see what we can do now,” said Jordan Kratochuil, a cheerleader. “It’s just, they’re going to see us dancing around and look pretty, basically.”

Who needs cheerleaders anymore, since there is nothing to "cheer" about? Based on the standards that have been set by the Colonial League, I expect a ban on all sports to follow.
